Netflix announced today an April 10th release for The Silence, the next film from Annabelle and Wish Upon director John Leonetti.
With the announcement comes the first trailer for the film that stars Kiernan Shipka (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, The Blackcoat’s Daughter) as Ally, a deaf teenager who is terrorized by a lethal bat species called Vesps. The trailer looks batshit insane (pun intended) and looks to be Netflix’s next Bird Box, with a hint of A Quiet Place and maybe even The Purge. The trailer promises a deadpan serious killer bat movie, which will be a welcome addition to films like The Devil Bat, Bats and Nightwing.
“When the world is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, 16-year old Ally Andrews (Shipka), who lost her hearing at 13, and her family seeks refuge in a remote haven. But they discover a sinister cult who are eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses.”
Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) costars with Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf.
The Silence is based on the best-selling novel by fantasy/horror writer Tim Lebbon (“Star Wars: Into The Void”) with a screenplay by the Van Dyke brothers, Carey and Shane (Chernobyl Diaries).
