The internet (particularly our pals over at Furgoria) has been having a field day with tonight’s trailer for Tom Hooper’s Cats, an adaptation of the hit musical that was destined from the very beginning to be the sort of movie the internet would have a field day with. Employing “Digital Fur Technology” to turn folks like Idris Elba and Taylor Swift into diminutive cat-human hybrids, the movie has been bestowed by many with the honor of having today’s scariest trailer, which is saying something considering the trailer for IT: Chapter Two also dropped today.
Of course, it’s not actually “scary” so much as it is deeply strange and decidedly unsettling, but then again, the same could be said about the original musical too. In any event…
Remember when I said the internet has been having a field day with the trailer? Well some have gotten quite creative in poking fun at the movie, most notably @IanAbramson over on Twitter. Ian cut together a version of the Cats trailer using the remixed version of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It” that was featured in Jordan Peele’s Us. And oddly enough, it’s kinda perfect.
