Anne Hathaway is the Grand High Witch in the Trailer for Brand New Adaptation of ‘The Witches’!
Just an hour ago, Warner Bros. dropped a bomb of a Halloween treat when they announced that Robert Zemeckis‘s (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Death Becomes Her, “Tales From the Crypt”) retelling of Roald Dahl’s The Witches would skip theaters entirely and arrive on HBO Max this coming October 22nd!
Now comes the very first trailer (and stills) that check into a hotel with a coven of witches and their Grand High Witch, played this time by Anne Hathaway.
Produced and co-written by Guillermo del Toro, the new take infuses modern CGI with the familiar story of a boy who is turned into a mouse.

Described as being “visually innovative,” Zemeckis’s movie “tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Octavia Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. The boy and his grandmother come across some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, so Grandma wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort.”
“Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Anne Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.”
Based on the 1973 novel, Zemeckis’ version will be more rooted in the original source material, which had a much darker, franchise-beginning finale (the young boy remains a mouse and must spend his short life hunting and killing all of those registered in the Grand High Witch’s address book).
The Witches looks like the perfect addition to your massive Halloween line-up that’s most likely already stuffed full.

Robert Eggers (The Witch, Nosferatu) is back later this year with new horror movie Werwulf, and the very first teaser image from the hotly anticipated movie has surfaced tonight.
Oddly enough, this first look comes courtesy of the NBC Store, and it gives us a glimpse at a chilly Winter landscape from the film. Is there a werewolf hiding in the photo? Maybe…
Set in 13th century England, Werwulf sees a mysterious creature stalk the land as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality. The film hits theaters on December 25 via Focus Features.
Robert Eggers recently teased, “It’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”
Eggers directs from a script he penned with his The Northman co-writer Sjón.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet) star.
