Team Junkfish made a splash at the Convergence Games Showcase, announcing that their dinosaur survival horror title Wilderdark will launch November 3 on PC via Steam. In addition, you can get in on the fun ahead of the fall launch with the game’s demo, which recently had an update.

Wilderdark is a survival horror exploration game where you find yourself on an unnatural island infected with a mysterious ectoparasitic organism which has corrupted the dinosaurs and plantlife. Sent in by the organization you work for in search of immortality, you are tasked with documenting the island’s ecosystem, collecting samples and discovering the fate of the previously vanished expeditions—including one led by your own parents.

After crash-landing on the island with only minimal resources to survive, every one of your steps matters in this tense and atmospheric world, where stealth is key and even the smallest sound can attract the attention of deadly apex predators. The island is crawling with danger, including grotesque, parasite-infected dinosaurs. To uncover the truth, players will need to carefully observe their surroundings, document discoveries through photography, and craft essential tools from whatever they can find. It’s a constant balancing act: use resources wisely, stay out of sight, and think one step ahead of the island’s relentless hunters.

Mike Klubnika, creator of Buckshot Roulette, and co-developer GDeavid have announced their violent party game collection Machine Party will launch for PC via Steam on July 30. Gather 2 to 4 friends, strap in, and prove your life is worth more than theirs in this collection of borderline illegal and extraordinarily violent party games.

To celebrate the release date announcement, a brand-new trailer has been released, showing off the violent minigames, customizable outfits, and chaotic multiplayer.

Featurng an industrial soundtrack composed by Alex Peipman, Machine Party takes classic party game formats and gives them deadly twists, turning friendly competition into something far less friendly, but always hilarious. Across 15 unique minigames, players will jump between split-second reflex challenges, calculated decision-making, and social situations where trust doesn’t last long and betrayal is always an option.

Each minigame throws players into increasingly absurd and dangerous challenges where cooperation, competition, and betrayal are all viable strategies. No matter how you play, or how devious you are at screwing over your friends, survival is never guaranteed. For more absurdity, you’re able to customize your test subject with a variety of cosmetics.

Developed by Swift Games, The Walking Dead: Aftermath is now available for the App Store and Google Play The free-to-play title blends frenetic, real-time combat with brutal decision-making set in the universe of AMC’s television series The Walking Dead”.

The Walking Dead is a proven IP with a passionate global fanbase and the perfect narrative fit for roguelite mechanics where survival defines the experience,” said Mike DeLaet, President of Ares Interactive. “With The Walking Dead: Aftermath, we’ve combined intense combat, meaningful progression, and base-camp strategy into a loop where every decision carries weight. We’ve applied decades of experience operating hit free-to-play titles to ensure the experience is both rewarding and sustainable for the long term. This is exactly the kind of franchise partnership we build at Ares Interactive, and we can’t wait to see how the players navigate this world.”

“A core pillar of The Walking Dead story is that of people learning to adapt and thrive in ever-more-extreme circumstances, and our partners at Ares Interactive have created a game that perfectly captures that feeling,” said Clayton Neuman, Head of Games & Franchise at AMC Global Media. “The Walking Dead: Aftermath allows players to enter a world where the stakes continuously mount with every choice made. Fast-paced, action-packed, and just the right amount of chaos – the end of the world has never been quite so much fun.”

Players will step into the shoes of iconic survivors from The Walking Dead Universe, including Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne, as they fight to survive against relentless walker herds, hostile enemies, and powerful bosses. Aftermath combines “high-intensity” roguelite action with survivor strategy and base-building meta-progression, challenging players to adapt, scavenge, and fight to stay alive.

The journey spans increasingly harrowing campaign chapters set across the franchise’s most iconic locations, from the deceptive peace of Hershel’s Farm and the fortified streets of Woodbury to the haunting remains of Terminus to the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

Players will face relentless walker hordes and hostile human factions. Level up in real-time during each run, selecting from three randomized ability upgrades that evolve combat tactics on the fly for each level up. When the fighting stops, players must retreat to their Base Camp to fortify their community and ensure long-term survival.

Use scavenged materials to permanently improve gear and survivor attributes, ensuring a stronger return after every run. All the while, experience a world that grows through a consistent stream of new storylines, regular content drops, and community events that ensure the fight for the future never stays the same. Additional survivors and fan favorite characters are set to join the fight over time.

For those wanting more wintery horror games, Nord Unit has you covered with their upcoming co-op Antarctic horror FPS, UNFROST. Coming to Steam, the game has you braving the elements in Antarctica as you hunt for tough-as-nails ancient otherworldly beings that require some heavy firepower to take down.

UNFROST is set in Antarctica, where you and your squad seek out ancient entities known as the Riftborne. It’s easier said than done, as you’ll need to gather evidence, survive extreme conditions, and prepare to launch a nuclear strike, which is the only weapon capable of killing them. Of course, you’ll also need to figure out how to escape before the strike hits.

But, in order to launch the strike, you’ll need to figure out just the right tunings in order to actually damange the Riftborne, which cannot be defeated with conventional weapons. That involves exploring abandoned stations, frozen ruins, and anomaly zones to recover samples, scan anomalies, and analyze evidence.

You’ll need to work together with your squad by divvying up tasks, sharing evidence, and transporting equipment. For example, one squad member may investigate anomalies, while another secures the perimeter or hauls critical equipment through a blizzard.

And yes, as you might have guessed, the Antarctic weather will be your first and foremost foe in UNFROST. You must brave the freezing temperatures and inclement weather while managing warmth, supplies, and sanity. The longer your mission lasts, the tougher it will be to survive.

Obviously, the Riftborne isn’t going to wait around for you. In fact, it’ll be hunting you from the very start. As such, you’ll need to constantly adapt in order to avoid certain death. Once you’ve determined the Riftborne’s weakness, you must configure the correct nuclear payload, launch the strike, and get out before impact. You don’t want to be around when the bombs drop.

Previously known as “Happy’s Humble BURGATORY”, tinyBuild and developer Scythe Studios’ co-op horror cooking game Happy’s Humble Burger Cult is out today on Steam. And for added incentive, you can grab the game with a limited-time 20% launch discount from now until July 23.

Players in Happy’s Humble Burger Cult will once again return to the grill, and the potential nightmare that follows. You and your crew are hired to participate in an experiment run by the Paragon Corporation. It sounds like a standard fast-food gig: grill burgers, fry sides, pour drinks, work the register, hit your quota, and keep the customers happy.

However, every shift is a ticking clock – the kitchen always wins eventually. Once the simulation collapses, Asset Joy breaks containment and begins her hunt. The iconic mascot is back for blood – and you have only one chance to escape!

Making things even more interesting is the fact that the game reacts to what you say on the mic. Speak the wrong word, and Asset Joy will hear you. Speak the right incantation, and the kitchen warps. Learn how to use incantations to your advantage, and what to never say aloud if you don’t want to anger the beast.

No two shifts are the same. Happy’s Humble Burger Cult features 35+ modifiers to ensure each run goes off the rails in a unique way. Rush Hour brings additional customers for a more profitable yet more chaotic shift. Profanity Policy punishes the team every time someone swears on the mic, while Midmaxxing messes up the appliances’ cooking temperatures.

PC gamers are no longer the only ones who can dive into Brigada Games’ Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, as the hit resource management game is now available on the Xbox Series. The game is also part of Xbox Game Pass, with support for Xbox Play Anywhere.

Just in case you missed it when it launched this past January on Steam, Quarantine Zone: The Last Check puts players in the role of a government agent stationed at a critical checkpoint in the midst of a post-apocalyptic chaos, screening survivors, managing scarce resources and making impossible moral decisions that determine who gets in – and who doesn’t.

Between juggling food, fuel and defense systems, fending off the zombie hordes (by deploying an armed drone to take them out safely from afar or getting up close and personal with your sidearm) you’ll also face the human side of survival: trust, desperation and the haunting consequences of every call you make.

You’ll make use of high-tech tools to uncover signs of infection among the survivors, as well as identify contraband, forbidden items, and even rare collectables as you work to keep your checkpoint secure. Send those with suspicious symptoms to quarantine for observation, to the lab for additional screening, or save healthy survivors by sending them to the living block. And those who show to be infected… well, you’ll know what to do.

Saber Interactive delve into the roots of the horrors you’ll face in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival with the latest developer diary. Once again featuring Pinhead himself, Doug Bradley, along with members of the development team, the video focuses on the disturbing enemies and themes you’ll face on your journey in the game, and how the creation of this content affected the development team.

In addition, we’re given a bit more information on the story, which reveals that players won’t just be dealing with the Cenobites. They will, in fact, have to contend with two other key factions.

The first is the Scarlet Church, a cult led by a charismatic figure named Marlowe. The Church hopes to establish contact with the Cenobites and seeks to use the mysterious Genesis Configuration puzzle box to create a debauched paradise for themselves.

The other group is the Unworthy, once-human wretches who sought after the ultimate experiences of sensation but were denied by Leviathan, ruler of the otherworldly Labyrinth. These rejects of Hell, monsters who think and behave differently from the cultists of the Church, are drawn to the Genesis Configuration as a potential path to redemption.

Both the Scarlet Church and the Unworthy will offer completely different combat experiences, each with their own challenges to overcome. Luckily, you have at your disposal an arsenal of earthly weapons, as well as the power of the Genesis Configuration, which makes use of the game’s grisly dismemberment system. But beware – the Labyrinth has its own unsettling traps and challenges to survive.

Hellraiser: Revival launches October 8 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. Pre-orders are now open.

Eager to dive into Snoring Dog Games’ follow-up to their first game The Flayed Man with Thorner? You’re in luck, as the devteam has announced that Thorner will be getting a Steam demo on July 30. And to celebrate, they’ve released a new trailer, which drops a few tidbits of what to expect with the demo.

Along with the quality pixel art, the Thorner demo will feature 10-15 minutes of “terror, dread and suspense”, with three possible endings based on your psychometrics. The full game will expand upon this, with the ending you receive being based on the choices you make regarding Colin’s thoughts, words, and actions.

The demo will also feature an atmospheric soundtrack, with demo-exclusive tracks. And of course, the demo sports plenty of weird, grotesque nature-based horror “that will make you think twice about going for a walk in the woods.”

In Thorner, you are Colin Snead, a military veteran. Haunted by your time in the service, you flee to the Scottish wilderness attempting to leave your past behind. However, you will find that spilled blood is not easily forgiven, and you are not alone. The land knows what you did. The land judges. Thorner awaits.

Following its surprise reveal at Summer Game Fest, SAW: Genesis is entering its Closed Alpha phase as Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios prepare to showcase the game at Gamescom. Kicking off today on Steam, the playtest gives those select players an early look at the game’s asymmetrical horror experience. If you missed out on the sign-up, not to worry, as the team is planning on multiple playtests ahead of SAW: Genesis launching into Early Access.

The main goal of this first playtest focuses on checking the stability of the game’s servers and matchmaking, as well as gathering overall user sentiment regarding the core gameplay loop. During the playtest, players can form parties of up to three Accused, while matchmaking assembles a complete lobby by pairing each group with a fourth player taking on the role of the Judge.

“We are fully aware how crucial it is to shape an asymmetrical multiplayer game together with the community, and our goal is to organize more playtests before the Early Access launch,” reads the statement from the devteam. “With every playtest, we plan to implement feedback, improve the game’s balance and meta, polish the gameplay experience and provide more ways for pure fun.”

Co-developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios, SAW: Genesis is set in the grim aftermath of World War I, where you play on either side of a 3v1 confrontation in intense matches that take place on procedurally generated maps. The game is built for short, intense matches where no two trials play out the same.

Players can either step into the role of the Judge, an early architect of Jigsaw’s philosophy, manipulating the trial and its prisoners from behind the scenes. Or, they can play as one of three Accused looking to escape the deadly labyrinth through teamwork and sacrifice. Shaped by their experiences in The Great War, the Judge is dedicated to rehabilitating humanity through pain and sacrifice.

Your goal as the Judge is to rehabilitate the Accused, making them choose between life and limb rather than killing them. Live or die. They make their choice.

SAW: Genesis is currently in development for release into Steam Early Access.

The fate of Sega’s Dreamcast was the unfortunate product of a handful of key events, and despite its short lifespan, it rightfully still holds a place in many fans’ hearts. PixelHeart are a group of said fans, who have been working away at developing a new game for the Dreamcast in their survival horror title, White Creek. And even if you don’t own a Dreamcast, the team is also working to port the game to modern consoles, as well as Steam. They’ll be launching a Kickstarter campaign soon to assist with development.

White Creek casts players as Alicia Morelli, a freelance exorcist who’s drawn to the eponymous town of White Creek. At first it was only rumors, but soon the townspeople were turning on each other in unexplained outbursts of violence. The violence spread, and those who were unable to leave remain in hiding . . . or are no longer themselves.

The possessed that Alicia will encounter can still be saved, but not all. You can choose to free them from their curse, or kill them. However, in exorcising them, you run the risk of losing your own soul.

Alicia has several weapons at her disposal, in addition to her psychic powers. These abilities allow her to detect spiritual anomalies, whether they are found within the possessed or hidden throughout the environment. She can also capture and record them using her mobile phone, a crucial tool for exploration, investigation, and puzzle-solving.

Indie development duo Beck & Branch Games and publisher Neem Interactive have announced that their viral horror co-op extraction builder GRAIN ROT will be launching next month on Steam on August 7. The game has already been wishlisted almost 200,000 times, and garnered over 350,000 demo downloads during last month’s Steam Next Fest, earning it one of the Top 15 most-played demos during the event.

Set in a scorched wasteland where everything burns, you and up to four friends must descend and break into shifting ruins, rip out furniture, and scavenge for loot for your Outpost base before the Corrupted close in. Make it back alive, then rebuild the Outpost to better your chances for the next run. Of course, in addition to the monsters lurking about, you’ll also need to be wary of your own team, which can leave you high and dry in order to save themselves.

Each time your vessel catches fire or gets smashed to pieces, your Living Spark will need to find and possess a new one, allowing you to keep riding the cursed elevator deeper in the search for loot. Furniture can be smashed to splinters as you use the debris for resources or feed it to the Grinder for gold. The deeper you descend, the worse the Rot becomes. Bodies warp. Voices distort. Emotes become…worse. Or possibly better?

As mentioned, you and your friends can betray each other in order to get out of a jam. Dropkick enemies or “accidentally” launch your ally’s Spark out of their vessel. Block them in a monster-infested corridor or get stuck in the crossfire. However, as you’d expect, the chaos you create can come back to haunt you, so be smart about goofing off.

Panache Digital Games has followed up their first developer diary for 1666: Amsterdam with a second entry, this time offering players a behind-the-scenes look at the artistic vision behind the game. The diary explores how the team drew inspiration from 17th-century Dutch art, particularly the Dutch Golden Age, to shape the game’s distinctive visual identity across its different timelines.

From historical research and artistic references to the process of translating paintings into interactive environments, the episode showcases the philosophy and craftsmanship behind the world of 1666: Amsterdam.

Set to launch into Early Access on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, 1666: Amsterdam centres around the eponymous city that was built on wealth, power, and sheer will, but now fuelled by a sinister force it did not forge. Entities known as The Originals have lived for centuries, granted time, granted power, and the freedom to abuse both. That power is now owed. Noa Brooklyn was born The Collector, raised by the Zaindaris for a purpose she did not choose: taking that power back.

Take part in Noa’s Commencement as she inherits the mantle of the Collector. Unravel a mystery that spans centuries. Choose the companion that will walk beside you. Follow the traces left behind in a city shaped by secrets, power, and memory.

Currently, you can check out the game’s prologue demo on either platform.

The gothic castle-cum-escape room you explore in Vampire Hunter: Nightrise is so delightfully kitsch that it is hard to call it truly scary. With chittering bat swarms, lycanthropes baying at the full moon, Spirit Halloween-style skeletons and revolving fireplaces, “spooky” feels like a more fitting description.

It just doesn’t feel like the backdrop to a serious horror game. Were it not for the fact that you deal with the fortress’s ghoulish inhabitants by either immolating them or driving wooden spikes through their hearts (instead of merely unmasking them to reveal greedy groundskeepers and implausibly theatrical jewel thieves), it’d almost feel better suited to a Mystery Inc. case. Right down to the shifting-eye portraits and those secret passageways that are concealed behind bookcases with discoloured opening mechanisms.

Yet as its title suggests, you will be roleplaying as neither meddling kids nor their dumb dog here. Instead, you’ll be stepping into the shoes of a grizzled monster slayer on a quest to vanquish some malevolent bloodsucker that has managed to get an entire region under its thrall.

When the story opens, you’re in the middle of being ferried to this undead fiend’s heretical lair. Your assignment from the Christian church (to which you are zealously devoted) appears simple on paper: infiltrate the castle; find the hidden chamber in which the evil is slumbering, hammer a stake into its chest, and liberate the innocents who have been corrupted by its foul influence.

Of course, this all turns out to be much easier said than done. For a start, the vampire’s resting place is located within an architecturally impossible room that’s not pinpointed anywhere on the map, and that isn’t accessible via conventional means. Not to mention, the rest of the stronghold is defended by a host of wailing ghosts, haunted suits of armour, and howling werewolves all dead set on keeping intruders like you from ever uncovering the whereabouts of their nefarious master.

So far, so Scooby-Doo! Where things get a little darker, however, is with the revelation that you’re not the first crusader to be sent on this particular suicide mission. On the contrary, the castle halls are littered with the mutilated corpses of your predecessors, many of whom came to doubt their calling by the end (questioning the hypocritical dogma of the clergy and wondering why their infallible God would allow them to meet such grisly fates), while others were seduced by darkness. Ruh-roh!

Whether you will undergo the same crisis of faith depends entirely upon your own spiritual fortitude and the choices you make to survive the gruelling night ahead. To divulge much more, or to reveal even your basic starting objectives, would spoil the fun of working out the game’s many mysteries for yourself.

Let’s just say it’s a tight, no-frills adventure that’s full of clever brainteasers, pleasing exploration and adrenaline-pumping action. Alas, its considerable charms are also sadly undermined by a question of authorship, intent and integrity that we’ll get around to in due course. Until then, here’s what we initially dug about Vampire Hunter: Nightrise.

The Game’s Afoot

At the outset, the title presents itself as a meat-and-potatoes first-person shooter but, as it grows increasingly puzzle-heavy and starts pushing you to make intelligent deductions about what to do and where to go next, you realise it’s just as much of a detective game.

Sure, most rooms you enter will be teeming with creatures for you to riddle full of holes in a way that evokes the frenetic gauntlets of Wolfenstein 3D. If you’ve been conditioned by that foundational boomer shooter or any of its contemporaries (which the three-person development team at Over the Moon clearly revere), then your first impulse will likely be to barrel right on ahead from one slaughtering ground to another without ever pausing for breath.

Yet that would be a critical error in this instance, as Nightrise actually demands a little more patience, asking you to calm your itchy trigger finger and linger a while longer in the aftermath of bloodbaths, so that you can meaningfully engage with the other half of the experience.

You see, all of the levels here serve dual purposes. Yes, they are deadly combat arenas in which you massacre beasties to your heart’s content, but they’re also jigsaw pieces in a much larger escape room scenario. Each and every one of them contains hidden secrets for the observant hunter to unearth and mini head-scratchers that can be solved to progress in the overarching mystery.

As mentioned up top, your goal here (beyond just “kill the head vampire”) is vaguely defined. You’ll therefore have to work out the necessary steps for reaching the final boss on your own, without the help of patronising objective markers or hand-holding NPCs that blatantly spoon-feed you all the answers. If you can find him, the transient spectre of the castle’s architect will jot down helpful notes on your map, but you’ll need to locate his various hiding spots first!

Over the Moon has likened this level design to Tunic, although we reckon Blue Prince is a far better point of comparison (on account of the first-person perspective, the general user interface and the mind-bending floor plan). As in that indie darling, you’ll soon come to appreciate just how dense and interlocking the setting is here, and how there’s way more to it than first meets the eye.

Indeed, Nightrise is absolutely chock-full of juicy discoveries and eureka moments, none of which we’ll give away in this review. Suffice it to say, you’ll be richly rewarded for paying attention to your surroundings and retaining key information. Clues can take the form of anything from written documents to neat visual signifiers or telegraphed interactions that might just inspire you to return to earlier areas (now forearmed with greater knowledge of the structure’s inner workings). Said findings will, in turn, yield ingeniously connected shortcuts and brand-new optional content that less vigilant players could conceivably miss.

There’s immense satisfaction to be derived from mastering the complex puzzle-box that is the castle itself, and we’d encourage you to savour that joyous investigative experience (not much of an ask, given the game’s lean 3-hour runtime). If you’re anything like us, you’ll get a real endorphin rush from finally grasping the full utility of all the different coloured flames in the archives, as well as from intuiting what the bells in the rafters are used for and figuring out how to successfully navigate the labyrinthine dungeons.

A Castle Built for Curiosity

Speaking of which, there’s a solid variety to the locations in Vampire Hunter: Nightrise. The castle is divided into four principal wings, each of which has its own unique sub-areas, puzzle types, mechanical gimmicks, and enemy breeds.

The latter consideration is especially appreciated, as it gives the world a coherent internal logic. Different creatures will congregate in different parts of the building (for story or lore reasons), and the developers never break immersion by recycling them elsewhere. Case in point, the cathedral is lorded over by blasphemous priests, who hurl destructive magicks your way, while the incorporeal wraiths of dark sorcerers pore over eldritch tomes in the library, and the subterranean prison cells are used as a holding pen for the reanimated corpses of your fallen comrades.

The ideal combat tactics will, of course, vary from foe to foe. Yet no matter what you’re fighting, your primary method of defence will always be the hunter’s standard-issue crossbow. Fittingly launching wooden stakes, it’s a cool weapon that the developers get a ton of mileage out of.

If you strategically line up a shot, for example, you can send a spike on a trajectory through an open flame so that it then catches on fire before hitting its intended target and setting them ablaze. Meanwhile, a well-placed bolt can catapult monsters into each other, and the crossbow can be modified to fling splintering projectiles that fan out in all directions. We also loved the inspired way that the game has you replenishing ammunition by smashing decorative furniture into kindling, rather than just searching for pre-made stakes randomly lying around the place.

Faith as Gameplay

Like any good student of Van Helsing, you also carry a crucifix with you at all times. Held akimbo with the crossbow, this can be used as both a close-quarters defensive weapon and as a catalyst for conjuring miracles. That brings us nicely to the title’s other conceit: its novel approach to faith.

Not too dissimilar from magic in an RPG, this attribute determines what kind of spells you can cast in Nightrise. Depending on how steadfast your belief is, you can use it to do fun things like summon lightning that stuns enemies, give yourself a big old damage buff, or trigger devastating explosions.

To get the most out of these powers, however, you’ll need to make sure that your religious convictions don’t waver. This can be monitored by checking the gauge just below your HP bar. In essence, the fuller it is, the more you’ll be able to leverage your favour with the big man upstairs.

Where things get interesting, though, is that the faith bar will not only drain when you cast miracles but also shrink if your character starts to harbour sacrilegious doubts. This tends to happen whenever he glimpses something that shakes his faith to the core, be it a dead body or a profane artefact that contains forbidden knowledge. In that sense, the faith bar can be thought of almost as a magic and sanity meter rolled into one. You need faith to cast spells, but your faith goes down whenever you see fucked-up shit. And you’re bound to see fucked-up shit sooner or later.

To restore this vital resource, you’ll either need to pray in the heat of battle (which is time-consuming) or demonstrate your fealty to the Church by rejecting certain temptations. To elaborate, there are a few junctures in the story where you will be offered great power by some unknown force. If you accept these boons, then an extra ability will be added to your spell list, and your faith will diminish a little.

Conversely, if you resist the allure, then you’ll miss out on the new miracle, but your relationship with God will improve. It’s an interesting trade-off that gives you a bit of flexibility in how you customise your build and could incentivise repeated playthroughs (especially since there are narrative implications to your choices here).

All in all, the way Vampire Hunter: Nightrise uses faith puts a fresh spin on the classic magic system. There’s a surprising amount of depth to it that helps combat feel a bit more nuanced, and the temptation angle smartly weaves the game’s narrative themes into actual gameplay.

A Different Kind of Vampire

Between these well-balanced faith mechanics, the intricate map layout, and the thoughtful puzzles, Nightrise appears to be a release that was very intentionally designed. You get the impression that the three-person team at Over the Moon agonised over every creative decision and had a very specific vision that they wanted to bring to life.

Regrettably, the integrity of all that is called into question by the needless use of a particular technology. And you don’t need to have the mystery-solving prowess of Scooby and the gang to know which one!

Let’s not beat around the bush anymore. Vampire Hunter: Nightrise‘s disappointing use of artificial intelligence is a blemish that, appropriately enough for a game that explores crises of faith, riddled us with doubt. Knowing that generative A.I. tools were used to some extent in the development process left us wondering how much of what we previously enjoyed was artistically deliberate or even original.

According to Over the Moon, the technology only did heavy lifting when it came to the musical score (through prompts on Suno) and localisation efforts. Elsewhere, the story, the general structure, and design choices were purportedly authored by real, flesh-and-blood creatives.

On the Steam store page, they go on to claim that A.I. is “not a replacement for the conscious attention of a skilled artist”, which is an encouraging sign. Yet this philosophy is compromised when they also admit to having exploited generative tools in order to establish starting points for various pieces of in-game artwork and character meshes. These assets supposedly went through extensive manual modelling, texturing, rigging and animation after the fact. But it still feels like they’re tainted. As a result, we can’t confidently discern what’s been done by hand here and what’s the output of the plagiarism machines.

I desperately want to believe that most of the things in this title I enjoyed were born completely of human ingenuity. And I want to take the developers at their word when they say that everything received proper care and intentional direction. Nevertheless, a pall has been cast over the whole package as far as I’m concerned. I originally loved how the brightness calibration image was a creepy portrait of a Boris Karloff lookalike. But now I’m uncertain if that was a conscious tribute to the great horror icon or if it’s just ripped from some other source that the A.I. was trained on. Because it’s a parasite that feeds on everything around it. You know, kind of like a vampire!

I really detest that this is something I have to think about when reviewing releases now. I’m sympathetic to the argument that smaller devs don’t have the same time or resource allowances as major AAA studios, and that corners sometimes need to be cut. I also recognise that concepts like procedural generation and pre-bought assets have existed in the industry for decades, and so pure, unmuddied authorship was never really guaranteed. Furthermore, I expect some A.I. defenders will come out of the woodwork and argue that, if you can’t tell what’s been produced by the technology and what hasn’t, then does it truly matter?

Yet I’d maintain that, if you’ve got any passion for this medium or have ever poured your own heart and soul into a creative enterprise, it should matter. I think it matters to consumers too. That’s why Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney got so agitated recently about Steam’s mandatory A.I. disclosure policy. Because even he knows that people are put off by this crap and crave experiences that were designed by their fellow humans.

With all of that said, Vampire Hunter: Nightrise may have only used generative A.I. sparingly in its development, but letting it off the hook for that feels like a very slippery slope. Had Over the Moon avoided its use altogether, I’d probably be able to recommend this one without reservations, because the bits I hope were done by humans are genuinely great. It is tightly designed! It has got a charmingly old-school atmosphere! There are some inventive ideas!

Ironically, though, I have now become just like its doomed protagonist: questioning if my faith was entirely misplaced. It’s such a shame to have this overshadow what was otherwise a pretty fun game.

Review code provided by publisher. Vampire Hunter: Nightrise released on PC via Steam on July 14.

Not one to have Steelkrill Studio have all the fun, developer Man The Barricades is getting in on horror titles inspired by The Great War with their short anomaly horror title Shellshock, which is out today on Steam.

Inspired by liminal spaces and psychological horror, Shellshock is set in a WW1 trench, where you are a British soldier trapped in an endless looping nightmare. In order to escape your ordeal, you must inspect your surroundings and report anything that is out of place. If you spot an anomalous change, you must report it by going left to Intelligence Dispatch. If everything seems okay, head right.

Playtime for Shellshock clocks in at around 10-30 minutes, depending on your difficulty selection. The difficulty level also determines which trench number you must reach in order to to escape.

If you correctly identify any changes in the trench, you will progress to the next loop. If you fail to correctly identify a change, or you think there was a change when there wasn’t, you’ll go back to trench 0 and start again. Your goal is the reach the final trench and escape. The trench is short, but the differences are randomised in each loop. And sometimes, there are no changes at all.

Right on schedule, Red Barrels has released “Project Boneyard” for The Outlast Trials. Available for free on PC and consoles for all current owners of The Outlast Trials, Reagents are thrown into Murkoff’s latest correctional nightmare, where authority is currency, punishment is policy, and riot makes way for revenge.

Sergeant Leland Coyle returns in a prominent new role for the season’s new Trial, Locksock the Warden. Sporting a brand new hat and an old appetite for control, Coyle is ready to inject more of his “cruel and unusual” style into the prison population.

As noted last week, Project Boneyard brings with it a new Trial, a new environment in the Prison Farm, new challenges, and a new Ex-Pop in The Biter.

Arms removed to prevent further self-harm, Biters are universal sadists, still capable of grievous harm with their mechanically enforced jaws. Though Biters are kept chained by the neck for safety, Reagents should approach with caution, as their augmented legs gift them with unexpected velocity.

Also part of the content is a new Deluxe Catalog, filled with 10 pages of new exclusive cosmetic items for Reagents looking to express themselves under Murkoff-approved supervision. The Deluxe Catalog is permanently available, allowing you to unlock items at whatever pace suits you.

Players can also partake in the game’s first limited-time Community Event in the Blood Drive. Blood Extractors have been installed in multiple Trial Environments, and Reagents are strongly encouraged to donate generously. Designed as a community-wide event, Blood Drive is Murkoff’s blood supply for an upcoming project. Every contribution helps advance the collective goal. As the community reaches new milestones, additional rewards will be unlocked for all participating Reagents. However, a minimum donation will be required within the trial environment to qualify for claiming event rewards.

The Outlast Trials is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games StorePlayStation, and Xbox.

Raw Tale Games recently dropped a new devlog for its long-in-development medieval job sim Dreadwoods Gatekeeper, which is currently in development for release on Steam. Likened to Papers, Please with an atmospheric horror twist, the devlog dives into various aspects of the game, which main developer Darko describes as a “combination of story, horror, atmosphere, and simulation elements”.

Dreadwoods Gatekeeper sees you take on the role of a young army recruit who’s not the greatest at his job. To compensate for your lack of training, you choose to take on the job of gatekeeper  for an isolated gate outpost in the Dreadwoods region. Your job is simple: inspect travelers, their documents, and the goods in their wagons before decide to let them through. At the same time, you’ll also be doing maintenance of the old gatehouse, and keeping yourself and your animal companions fed.

Needless to say, the locals talk of how the outpost is cursed, but you don’t believe it. You soon start to change your mind, as something doesn’t feel quite right about this place. Are you truly alone here? Could there be something supernatural lurking in the shadows? It’s up to you to uncover the truth while carrying out your duties and surviving the eerie nights.

Currently, the game has been in development since 2024. Raw Tale Games is currently planning future playtests for Dreadwoods Gatekeeper, which you can currently track for updates via the mailing list.

PC gamers have been enjoying CobraTekku Games and developer Kasur Games’ Verho: Curse of Faces for almost a year. And now, console gamers will be able to get their hands on the King’s Field-inspired dark action RPG later this month when the game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch on July 30. The release will coincide with the game’s “Chaos” content update.

First launching for PC via Steam and GOG last November, Verho: Curse of Faces takes place after the catastrophic Era of Solitude, where masks have become the only protection against the Curse of Faces, where revealing one’s face means instant death. Humanity was brought close to the brink. After 264 years of “the Era of Solitude,” a symbol of safety appeared in the form of Masks.

While the origins of the curse are still shrouded in mystery, many travelers still venture to the source of this curse in an attempt to reveal its secrets. You must travel to the land of Yariv, find the source of this scourge, and face its dangers. Will you strive to lift the curse from the world, or will you harness its power for your own ends?

Meanwhile, for you speedrunners, the devteams have been holding a contest that just kicked off late last week. The rules are simple:

  • The first three runners win a special Verho package, featuring the following goodies:

    • 1. Place: Life-size Verho Mask, High-Quality Poster, Map – The Continent, Mask-Keychains, and Manual – Limited Edition

    • 2. Place: High-Quality Poster, Map – The Continent, Mask-Keychains, and Manual – Limited Edition

    • 3. Place: High-Quality Poster, Mask-Keychains, and Manual – Limited Edition

Submissions for the contest will end on August 16th, while the prizes will start shipping later this fall. If you have any questions, or you want to give your fellow speedrunners some tips, you can head over to the official Discord channel.

Released way back in 2021 onto Steam, Milkbar Lads’ gory, fast-paced, roguelike shooter Dead Estate has finally arrived on the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch, with Switch 2 compatibility. The console releases contain all of the previously-released expansions, including the entirely separate campaign inspired by classic survival horror games, “Assignment Anya”.

There isn’t much to the story of Dead Estate, which is probably for the best. All you need to know is that you’re stuck in a monster-filled mansion, from which you’ve obviously got to escape. Your only way out is to ascend the floors of the mansion with one of 10 unique characters, collect loads of items and weapons, and tackle the grueling challenges within. Along the way, you will discover secrets and the many unlockables.

And yes, there are loads of weapons and items for the game’s close-quarters combat. 150 weapons and 300 items, to be exact, making each run unique. Adding to that uniqueness are the many alternate floors and floor variants of the mansion. There are also modifiers and difficulty levels available to further maximize replayability.

And as mentioned, Dead Estate also includes a nod to Resident Evil 4 with Assignment Anya, an obvious play on Assignment: Ada. With this expansion, which is set prior to the events of the main game, you play as Anya, a fledgling actress who finds herself helplessly lost in the mansion after her film crew is attacked by the undead. Abandoned by her leading man and left alone with nothing but a mask with which to disguise herself, Anya must escape the increasingly warped and deadly estate all on her own.

I Did Not Buy This Ticket developer Tiago Rech has teamed up with DANGEN Entertainment to publish his upcoming psychological horror adventure game I SHALL NAME THE DEAD. The game is scheduled to release on PC via Steam in “early 2027”, with more details being revealed later this year.

The story for I SHALL NAME THE DEAD centers around a lone cemetery amidst the Metropolis, where The Nameless Dead cannot be buried. Their remains pile up in mass. Robbed of their identities, they remain in limbo, no grave, no dignity. You are a woman named Imaculada, who has been cursed with the Worm gnawing at her insides. You must speak to the dead and uncover their forgotten names before the Worm consumes her.

Featuring art by Lirio Ninotchka, the art director of I DID NOT BUY THIS TICKET, players will explore the the cemetery, the City within the City. You’ll interact with its denizens and unique sepulchral art, investigating clues left by the dead, uncovering their names, and naming them so they can finally be cremated.

All the while, you must deal with the Worm, which will overtake your words. You must burn matches to purify your dialogue choices, or allow him to get ever closer.

When Season 7 “Project Boneyard” arrives for The Outlast Trials on July 14, players will be greeted with the return of Prime Asset Sergeant Leland Coyle. And he’s not alone. Launching for PC via Steam and the Epic Games StorePlayStation, and Xbox, Project Boneyard will include a new Trial, two fresh MK-Challenges, major updates to Escalation and Invasion, new customization features, and a new Ex-Pop enemy stalking the Prison Farm known as The Biter.

Season 7 will see Reagents sent into Murkoff’s latest correctional nightmare in the Prison Farm. At the center of it all is Sergeant Coyle, returning in a prominent new role for the season’s new Trial, Locksock the Warden.

The American prison is a meat grinder, taking in sociopaths and criminals and extruding functioning members of society. But strict routine, severe conditioning, and close quarters create a crucible for power dynamics built on violence, contraband, and flesh.

With the new Trial, you are freedom. The indefinable promise that keeps prisoners at the grindstone that turns authority to profit and back again. Don’t let false authority stand in the way of real capital. Kill the Warden, and set yourself free.

Season 7 also brings with it two new MK-Challenges. In “Bribe the Judges”, you are the master, whose property is the purpose of the law. Salary reminds enforcement that their monopoly of violence only exists for your monopoly of capital. Collect the bribes in order to pay the judges. Meanwhile, “Cancel the Broadcast” has you sabotaging the broadcast and defiling the faithful with blood in order to be let out.

Then there’s the new Ex-Pop stalking the Prison Farm in The Biter. Having had its arms removed to prevent further self-harm, Biters are universal sadists, still capable of grievous harm with their mechanically enforced jaws. Though Biters are kept chained by the neck for safety, you should approach them with caution, as their augmented legs grant them unexpected velocity.

If that’s not enough content for you, from July 14 to August 11, Twitch users who tune in to participating The Outlast Trials Twitch streams can earn rewards through the latest Twitch Drops campaign. You can read up on the full details from the FAQ on developer The Red Barrels’ website.

Lastly, Project Boneyard also introduces a range of new features and improvements for The Outlast Trials, designed to “expand player expression, streamline preparation, and improve the overall experience” across key modes. That includes the introduction of Rig Customization, Knife Customization, Loadout Presets, and Mastery Tasks, giving players new ways to “prepare for therapy” and personalize their approach before entering the Trials. The update will also bring major reworks to both Escalation and Invasion, with significant changes designed to improve the flow, structure, and overall player experience of both modes.

More details on these features, and the full contents of Project Boneyard, will be revealed closer to launch.

Developer WildArts has announced a September 15 launch for its tongue-in-cheek survival horror game Fright Train on Steam. And if you can’t wait until then, if you haven’t already done so, you can check out the demo that’s currently available on Steam.

Fright Train has players take on the role of one Doug Barker, who has just started working for the Paranormal Agency Worldwide, or P.A.W. for short. You’ve received an anonymous distress signal originating from the L.R.S. Great White, a mysterious research station on rails in Antarctica owned by the secretive corporation known as SHARK. It turns out that the train has become infested with interdimensional horrors, and you’ve got to stop them. Complicating matters is the fact that you need to keep the train running, as you risk freezing to death if the train ever stops.

Inspired by a mid-2000s aesthetic (as well as the fact that you’re an anthropomorphic dog), Fright Train follows the typical survival horror tropes of limited ammo, puzzle solving and inventory management. That includes hacking into encrypted terminals in order to interface with the train’s systems. You’ll need to do so in order to monitor and repair the train’s equipment as it deteriorates. There’s also that pesky threat of the cold, which will turn deadly if you’re left outside of the train for too long.

Then there’s that threat of the horrors that lurk on the train itself. Luckily, the game features a ” volatile combat ecosystem” where enemy behaviors intertwine, resulting in your foes either supporting or sabotaging one another.

Frogwares is following up last month’s release date announcement (and surprise demo) for The Sinking City 2 with the game’s pre-orders now available for eager fans. Alongside the announcement, which includes a look at much of the bonus in-game content available to players who pre-order the game, is a new trailer showing off brand-new gameplay for the Lovecraftian survival horror title.

With pre-orders now live on PC and consoles, players can choose from three editions, with each offering bonus content in addition to the base game.

  • Standard Edition ($49.99 MSRP) – includes the base game, along with the Chthonic Arsenal pack
  • Deluxe Edition ($54.99 MSRP) –  includes the base game, Chthonic Arsenal pack, and The Arkham Field Kit
  • Premium Edition ($59.99 MSRP) – includes the base game, Chthonic Arsenal pack, The Arkham Field Kit, Holloway Manor, and 24-hour advanced access

The Chthonic Arsenal features mythical weapons to give you options when the abyss fights back: the “Shale Mary” handgun, the “Breakwater” shotgun, and the “Tektite Tommy” SMG, each with its own look and features.

The Arkham Field Kit adds three outfits for the main character: “The Anatomist,” “The Witness,” and “Heretic Heraldry.” It also includes three Dream Essence to learn your first Talent early and a Resource Pack with a helpful mix of ammo, healing, and crafting items to aid your first steps in the city.

Lastly, Holloway Manor is a house that belongs to an old family whose history curdled into occult practice. Rooms interlock like a puzzle box, dusty heirlooms open doors, and the house rewards your curiosity with paths you were not meant to find. See the job through, and you’ll receive the “Bucking Bronco” revolver as your reward for the main game.

Set in a Lovecraftian vision of 1920s America, in the infamous city of Arkham, The Sinking City 2 sees a supernatural flood that has driven out all but the most deranged residents, leaving decay and eldritch horrors that roam the streets. Players step into the role of Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose cavalier actions have led to devastating consequences.

After a dreaming ritual goes wrong, his girlfriend, Faye, is left trapped in a mysterious sleep. Now Calvin must navigate the drowned streets of a derelict city in a desperate attempt to bring her back. On his quest, he’ll come face to face with a plague of otherworldly creatures, the Slither, who possess and twist the dead into lethal, walking puppets.

The Sinking City 2 launches August 18 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Originally launching on Steam and mobile back in 2024, developer Starry Studio has announced that their free-to-play co-op survival MMO Once Human will be making the jump to PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series on August 25. Alongside the console release, Once Human will receive an update that allows for first-person perspective play, and full cross-play and cross-progression support right from launch.

Pre-orders are now open for the game, which includes the “Starter Pack” and “Radiance Pack” bundles. Purchasing these packs include exclusive, limited pre-order items unique to the PlayStation and Xbox:

  • Starter Pack ($9.99): Offers the Black Gold Butterfly cradle skin, 3 Midnight Rave weapon skins, a 30-day METAPASS, a special home facility skin, and exclusive profile customization items.
  • Radiance Pack ($14.99): Provides an Outfit Selection including 3 character skins, a Premium Battle Pass, a 30-day METAPASS, 2 Siderite lottery tokens, and an exclusive avatar frame.

Once Human sees players waking up after a cataclysmic event where everything has become infested by an alien entity known as Stardust. You yourself have been affected, turned into a meta-human with no memory of who you were. As a meta-human, your quest is to find the truth about Stardust, find out where it came from, and what it wants. Along the way, you’ll need to navigate between the five different factions in the world, which each have their own goals.

Just because you’re a meta-human, doesn’t mean you’re invincible. Stardust has infected everything, including the soil and water. Similar to what happens in Fallout 76, if you eat polluted food and drink dirty water, it will cost you. In this case, it’s your Sanity. When your Sanity drops, your max HP will also drop.

Seeing as this is an MMO at heart, Once Human will have you and your friends (or without, if you so choose) collecting gear, finding new blueprints for weapons (about 100 blueprints spread across seven different categories), building and defending your base known as a Territory Core, as well as tackling numerous enemies that are once human. That includes challenging bosses from another dimension to reap the rewards of powerful items, and to ultimately ease the spread of Stardust.

For those itching for some throwback first-person shooter action, Blight Software has just had a demo released for their upcoming FPS BLIGHTEN. The demo sees you and your squad selected to eliminate the last rebels in the eastern wastes, only to have your slaughtered, and you trapped in a decaying research facility. And you’re not alone.

You’ll explore every room of the facility for resources and weapons in an effort to stay alive. Luckily, you’ll have an extensive arsenal of various firearms at your disposal, from shotguns to assault rifles.

You’ll need them in order to take down the various blight-ridden mutated horrors throughout the mega structure. As one would expect, you’ll need to scrounge for parts and ammo, so make every shot count.

Similar to what players experienced in the early PlayStation classic Alien Trilogy, BLIGHTEN sports hand-drawn enemy sprites and animation in a 3D retro world, creating a unique and dynamic atmosphere while still scratching that throwback itch.

It’s all wrapped up in a dark narrative, where an unseen evil lurks in the shadows of the facility, shaping the horrors around you as you descend deeper into the facility. As you navigate this industrial nightmare, every Blightened creature slain is a grim reminder to what you’ve lost — and the things you’re fighting for.

Look for BLIGHTEN later this year on Steam.

Horror fans who can’t get enough of roguelike deckbuilders have another one on the way, thanks to developer Strong Monkey Games’ horror slot machine title, DEAD SPIN. And you won’t have to wait long to try it out, as the developer has announced a public playtest that you can jump into from now until July 19th.

The playtest includes a short tutorial before the first real spin, after which you’ll face off against four opponents, eachs with their own tricks, skills, and bad intentions. There are also unlockable items (100+, to be exact) for different builds and survival strategies. The devs hope to “tune the machine” with the playtest before the game’s eventual launch later this year on Steam.

Blending slot-machine gameplay with deckbuilding strategy, DEAD SPIN throws players into slot-machine duels against lunatic gamblers in an abandoned casino. Each run in DEAD SPIN is a deadly challenge against more than 8 unique opponents. Each opponent brings their own deck, skills, and strategy, forcing players to adapt their build around whatever random items they find. Lose, and the run starts over under new conditions. Win, and new items may be unlocked for future runs.

With seven reels symbol types, every run is about deciding which symbols to prioritize for the strongest trigger chains. When the odds turn against you, use trinkets to outsmart the rules. You can also exploit the game’s economy by choosing coins that trigger off your strategy and turn the casino’s economy against itself.

The whole thing is wrapped in a visual style that draws from late ’90s and early ’00s horror aesthetics, blended with a grimy VHS-inspired atmosphere with dark, grotesque humor.

Back in January, Influsion Inc. announced SENARA: The Sacrament, their open seas survival horror title that’s set aboard a mysterious derelict cruise liner. And after dropping the demo for the game during February’s Steam Next Fest (which is still available), the developer has announced that SENARA: The Sacrament will launch on Steam on July 30th.

SENARA: The Sacrament puts players in the role of a new recruit of a religious organization that just so happens to have a massive 6,000-ton ship: the eponymous Senara. Upon setting sail you wake up to find the ship’s crew missing. In their place, horrific creatures now stalk the corridors of the ship. You’ve now got to escape hidden cult rituals, forbidden truths, and survivors with their own agendas await you in the darkness.

Calling back to classic survival horror design, SENARA: The Sacrament offers players a massive escape room where you must solve puzzles and manage your limited resources to your advantage if you’re to get out alive. In order to do so, you’ll have to know when to use your resources, employ stealth mechanics, and decide whether to fight or flee.

Using LiDAR, photogrammetry, and Unity HDRP pipelines, SENARA: The Sacrament offers a scan of a real-life documentary-level accuracy 6,000-ton ship. You’ll explore the corridors of the eponymous vessel, uncovering hidden passages, and gather clues to find the key to your escape. Along the way, you’ll also uncover just what happened about the ship. Take care, however, as the info scattered across documents, objects, and conversations between characters is open to interpretation. Depending on what you believe and how you interpret the clues, the story can unfold in entirely different directions, leading to multiple endings based on your choices.

SENARA: The Sacrament hearkens back to the golden age of survival horror, but with a modern twist,” said No-Jin Kwak, Director at Influsion Inc. “It retains the item scarcity, puzzles, and freeform exploration of the genre’s best entries, now enhanced with a state-of-the-art recreation of real ocean liner. We believe this adds a deliberately uncanny layer to its oppressive atmosphere, offering untold immersion to its nightmarish tale of high seas horror.”

After last month’s Open Beta, Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack have announced an August 20 release date for their Soulslike RPG Mortal Shell II. Launching for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, pre-orders are now available for the standard edition of the game, as well as a “Devout Edition”, which includes the base game, up to 72 hours of advanced access, and the exclusive Obsidian skin set for all eight playable Shells.

PlayStation 5 users can also pre-order the physical “Revered Edition,” which includes the base game, a SteelBook case, art book, art prints, and the pre-order bonus skins Obsidian and Skeletal Harbinger, all housed inside a collector’s box.

Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel to the original Mortal Shell that significantly expands on the original with unrestricted combat, deeper weapon design with extensive upgrade options, and an emphasis on free exploration.

You are the Harbinger, a being prophesied to reclaim the blessed Undermether’s stolen Ova from the daunting creatures that ruthlessly guard her unborn. Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel that significantly expands on the original with unrestricted, adrenaline-charged combat, offering deeper weapon design with extensive upgrade options, and an emphasis on free exploration. The game’s immersive, interconnected open world is expansive yet deliberately compact, designed to unfold its twisted landscapes and hidden structures while respecting the player’s time.

Once again, players will be making use of Shells — dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout the world. Once discovered, each Shell can be awakened and possessed, unlocking their innate strengths and unique abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing the diverse unique abilities of each Shell, and unravel their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.

Running With Scissors first revealed their first-person shooter Flesh & Wire back in February. The developers have popped up again with a new trailer, offering prospective players a first glimpse at the nightmares lurking with antiheroine Angel in this POSTAL franchise spinoff that seeks to return to the first game’s dark and violent theme and setting.

Meet Angel, a normal college student with her whole life ahead of her, and Solomon, her loyal sphynx cat. In a sudden muzzle flash of horrific violence, the two find themselves swept up in a waking nightmare of blood, conspiracy, and retribution.

Pursue all-consuming vengeance as the duo seeks answers, no matter the cost. Go on a bloody tear, crossing paths with law enforcement, the National Guard, and a sinister cult that will stop at nothing to prevent Angel from finding the truth – and how it all connects to franchise protagonist the Postal Dude.

“Angel is the first time we’ve introduced a new protagonist to the POSTAL series, and she’s already resonating with both new and long-time fans,” said Vince Desi, founder of Running With Scissors. “Her story taps into the darkness that characterized the first game in the series, and today’s new trailer gives our community a first look at Angel’s feline companion, and the atrocities awaiting in Dreamscape.”

Look for Flesh & Wire to launch in 2027 on PC via Steam, GOG, and PlayStation 5.

With only a few days to go before WildSphere’s Escape From Umbra launches on PC and console on July 10, the devs have released an updated demo to Steam and GOG to woo potential players. The new 10-15 minute demo allows players to get their first look at the game’s story, while also offering a glimpse into the core mechanics of the full game.

Furthermore, Xbox players can now pre-order the game, where early supporters can take advantage of a 10% limited-time discount until July 9th. Nintendo Switch, Steam, and GOG launches will be accompanied by a discount upon launch.

Escape From Umbra transports players to a labyrinthine town inspired by the mountain villages in Las Alpujarras. Their iconic narrow streets and white facades have been invaded by dark roots and a dense, oppressive fog. Following the trail of enigmatic black cats, players will freely explore every corner of the town to find the way to escape from the nightmare where Umbra has locked them up.

Eschewing artificial inventories or floating backpacks, the game opts for a true “escape room” format. Players must investigate the environment, manipulate objects, and figure out how to use them within the 3D space to escape each area. To do so, they will rely on a mysterious magic book, deciphering its logic-based clues to solve every puzzle and challenge.

However, the town is governed by shadow creatures that watch for any presence to summon the mistress of darkness. Players will carry a unique flashlight capable of condensing energy and unleashing powerful bursts of light, which allow them to defend themselves against specters and reveal secrets hidden by magic.

Additionally, controller vibration becomes a living gameplay mechanic: there are no on-screen indicators; the character’s heartbeat is transmitted directly to the player’s hands, accelerating chaotically as the only radar for imminent danger.

Illfonic and Gun Interactive have revealed another map for Halloween: The Game in the Orange Grove Estates. Not only that, but fans can finally start pre-ordering the physical game on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, which will arrive on October 6.

Meanwhile, the digital version is sticking with the September 8 release date.

Teaming up with Nighthawk Interactive, there will be two editions for the physical edition: the Standard Edition will be available for MSRP $39.99, while the Limited Collector’s Edition will be available for MSRP $149.99.

The Standard Edition of Halloween: The Game will include a copy of the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, an exclusive poster, and advance access to the Michael Myers Clown skin and two civilian cosmetics.

Meanwhile, the Limited Collector’s Edition will include a copy of the game, plus an exclusive Trick or Treat Studios Shape Jump variant action figure, exclusive lenticular art, an exclusive poster, advance access to the Michael Myers Samhain and Clown skins, advance access to the two civilian cosmetics from the Standard edition and two additional civilian cosmetics, and more surprises to be revealed at a later date.

As for the Orange Grove Estates, this is an upscale neighborhood in one of Haddonfield’s affluent corners. Multi-story houses surround a playground and basketball court, and expansive yards turn every fence and hedge into a fresh hiding (or hunting) ground. The map’s open layout reshapes how players move between structures, opening up new opportunities for collaboration while widening the lines of sight that can give a hero (or The Shape) away. The larger, multi-story homes also introduce precarious upper-floor encounters that every player will need to account for.

“Every neighborhood in Halloween: The Game is designed to change how you play, and Orange Grove Estates is our most ambitious map yet,” said Jared Gerritzen, Chief Creative Officer, IllFonic. “The open layout and multi-story homes force players to rethink their every action as it could compromise their line of sight, collaboration, and escape, whether they are playing as a Civilian or Myers.  Players will learn to dip, dodge, and scan surroundings for options to find an escape route. Pairing this map’s reveal with our physical editions felt like the perfect way to celebrate the physical pre-order launch.”

In addition to the physical editions, Halloween: The Game will launch digitally on PlayStation 5Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

On the heels of the recent dev diary, Bloober has dropped a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Cronos: The New Dawn expansion DLC Cronos: Lazarus. The trailer has the devs showing off the title’s dark atmosphere, along with The Warden’s new weapons and abilities, while also hinting at the story details for the expansion.

Cronos: Lazarus sees players return to the wastelands of New Dawn as the once-loyal Pathfinder in the process of transforming into the Warden from the base game. Isolated in the Terminal and severed from the Collective, he devotes every waking moment to awakening a lost Essence that he refuses to let fade. His sanctuary has unfortunately been compromised, as a new kind of hunter has been deployed with one directive: to find and eliminate The Warden.

Shifting gameplay to a more aggressive style, Cronos: Lazarus lets you experience what it means to be one of the Collective’s elite agents. Scarred and broken by a lifetime of survival in the wasteland, The Warden is not at full strength, but even in his damaged state, he retains the ability to move fast, strike hard and survive against mounting pressure.

The Warden is powerful, but he will not remain unchallenged for long. In this DLC, he will face off against an adversary engineered specifically to stop him. This new pursuer is relentless, highly adaptive, and fully capable of matching the Warden’s strength. Your battles will escalate into large scale, cinematic encounters that will test every skill you possess.

Look for Cronos: Lazarus later this fall on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series,  and the Nintendo Switch 2.

Following the success of its Steam Next Fest demo for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, which saw 300,00 players check out the demo (and earn over 650,000 wishlistings), NACON and ACE Team are making one more push ahead of the co-op horror title’s release with a new trailer warning explorers of the dangers they will face.

Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft‘s cosmic horror short novel, in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, players take on the roles of explorers searching for legendary treasures deep within a hostile jungle. Before each expedition, players gather aboard the galleon to choose a contract and divide up weapons and equipment. Once they arrive on the continent, the explorers set out in search of treasures and resources to bring back to the galleon’s captain. A simple task in theory, but one that holds surprises.

As they venture deeper into the jungle, the adventurers must face numerous monstrosities, but the greatest threat will be their own minds. Their perception of reality is gradually corrupted until their mental health reaches a critical stage. Visual and auditory illusions disorient the adventurers, potentially causing accidental sabotage that could jeopardize the mission. Even death offers no respite: companions who have fallen in battle may return in a corrupted form and turn against their allies.

The explorers are inexperienced, equipped with extremely limited ammunition and breakable gear. Faced with the dangers and monstrous entities of the cursed jungle, the chances of survival are slim for adventurers who set out to slay every creature that stands in their way. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu emphasizes horror over action and encourages players to avoid unnecessary confrontations in order to successfully complete their contract and return alive from their expedition, even if that means opting for stealth or a hasty retreat.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu will launch July 15 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series.

Bloober Team has released a new developer diary for the upcoming Cronos: Lazarus DLC for Cronos: The New Dawn. Titled “Becoming the Warden,” the video features members of the dev team chatting it up about (obviously) The Warden, who unlike The Traveler in the main game, will focus more on faster, more aggressive action.

“We came back on the setting of Cronos because we wanted players to experience this super strong character,” says Game Design Director Marc Albinet. “The second reason was that we also wanted to provide a different flavor, a different taste of the original game.”

The DLC also puts greater emphasis on the more “emotional” human side of the story, where players learn of the cost of going up against The Collective. Cronos: Lazarus sees The Warden isolated in the Terminal and severed from the Collective, where he devotes every waking moment to awakening a lost Essence he refuses to let fade. However, his sanctuary, has been compromised. A new kind of hunter has been deployed with one directive: to find and eliminate him.

Scarred and broken by a lifetime of survival in the wasteland, The Warden is not at full strength, but even in his damaged state, he retains the ability to move fast, strike hard and survive against mounting pressure. In addition to being able to deploy a decoy to distract foes and being able to turn invisible to strike against distracted foes, The Warden can also teleport, which fits with the more aggressive playstyle of the DLC. He also has a souped-up version of the Dagger PS-3713 in the Gladius.

Cronos: Lazarus is slated to launch later this fall for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series,  and the Nintendo Switch 2.

We’ll have to wait longer for Frictional Games’ ONTOS. The Amnesia series developers have announced that the mystery thriller is being pushed to a 2027 release after previously being announced for release this year.

According to the post on X, the reasoning for the delay was due to ONTOS being the team’s “most ambitious game to date, both in terms of size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay.” As a result, the game is being pushed to the nebulous 2027 release date. The team will be sharing more updates about the game, including its world and characters, “soon”.

In ONTOS, players will become Aditi Amani, a resourceful engineer, as she explores the repurposed moon hotel Samsara in search of the truth around her estranged father. Samsara is a vast labyrinth built atop the ruins of a failed mining colony, and players will explore this open, interconnected environment in their quest for the truth. Every corner of Samsara tells a story, and every story has something hiding beneath the surface, waiting to be found…

Players will scavenge for helpful items, manipulate intricate machinery and face intense tests of morality as they encounter horrific Experiments throughout Samsara. There is no ‘one solution’ to the obstacles players will encounter in ONTOS. Players will need to use their wits and ingenuity to reach the narrative’s mysterious conclusions and face the consequences of their choices.

ONTOS is currently being developed for release on PC via Steam and GOG, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

Blood West publishers Hyperstrange are back with another Eldritch horror game in Pixel Jackal Studio’s Bloodwoven. This survival FPS has you hunting, surviving and thriving in a world built upon the frozen corpse of a forgotten god. Survival comes with new hazards and a new mechanic, where you must watch your body heat, climb icy peaks, slip through places you were never meant to reach, and move like a predator in the shadows. Or like prey desperately trying not to be seen.

Your home, the long deceased corpse of a god, shackles many secrets beneath its icy flesh. Your people, as everything in this world, come into existence through sanguine pods which birthed you as well. However, as of late the same cradles are bringing into the world corrupted forms – abominations that are neither human nor animals. As this new threat populates the god-glacier, you and other tribes must find a new foothold. Some tribes even mention finding metal dwellings that long ago fell from the stars.

This world you inhabit changes after sunset. When certain monsters retreat to sleep, entirely different abominations emerge to hunt – opening new paths of exploration, or sealing them off entirely. As mentioned, in addition to the fangs and claws waiting in the dark, you’ll need to deal with the omnipresent, biting frost that will constantly sap your life. You’ll need to make use of campfires, which may be the only difference between life and death.

You are not the hero of this story, but you are definitely a part of the food chain. Stalk your prey and dispatch it with stealth, or stand your ground with spear in hand and boomerang on your back. In time, and with a little bit of luck, you will also have a chance to put your hands on armaments that are from out of this world.

If you were expecting something like The Typing of the Dead with Sunscorched Studios’ KEYKRUNCHER, guess again. Announced for release on Steam later this year, KEYKRUNCHER sees players enrolled in an experimental treatment programme for their insatiable desire to consume keyboards. Seriously.

“We made RATSHAKER a game about shaking a rat to find your wife,” says Calvin Parsons found of Sunscorched Studios. “Now we’re making KEYKRUNCHER, a game about eating a keyboard, one keycap at a time.”

Set within the RATSHAKER universe, KEYKRUNCHER blends tactile keyboard gameplay, escalating roguelite progression, physical gambling mechanics, desk charms, and Sunscorched’s grimy, high-contrast, PSX-inspired nightmare advert aesthetic into the world’s first keyboard consumption treatment programme.

You have been “fused” to a desk in an assessment room with a scrambled keyboard, a gumball machine, and IT waiting at the end of the hallway. Almost everything on the desk is interactive. Tokens can be taken, machines fed, levers pulled, gumballs handled, and rewards eaten, banked, placed, or survived.

Press the correct keys on your real keyboard, or use the mouse to interact with them, and KRUNCH matching keycaps in-game. Obey the monitor, clear escalating treatment lessons, earn tokens, gamble them away in a sinister gumball machine, and decorate your desk with cursed rewards that might just keep you alive.

Every lesson pushes the treatment further. More keys. Stranger demands. Less time. Riskier rewards. Worse things in the hall. Each run reshuffles the keyboard, demands, rewards, and treatment conditions. Survive the Final Assessment or continue into Endless Treatment until the programme inevitably consumes you.

Players will be able to experience the game with a free demo planned for later this year, ahead of the game’s full release.

Though there’s still no specific release date yet, Saber Interactive has given Turok fans an update of sorts on the development of Turok: Origins with a new short-but-sweet gameplay trailer.

In Turok: Origins, players will take on the mantle of the ancient Order of the Turok, heroic guardians of unimaginable power locked in a battle for survival against ferocious creatures and a terrifying alien threat that seeks to destroy all human life in the galaxy. Battle in both first-person and third-person action, harnessing fallen foes’ DNA to upgrade your arsenal.

Fight as a team in co-op or solo against a variety of creatures, dinosaurs, and bosses that take to the ground, sky, swamps, and caves to push your skills to the limit. You’ll be able to unlock and upgrade advanced weaponry to even the odds against your enemies in battle. Wield an arsenal of plasma rifles, ray guns, snipers, bows, shotguns, and more.

As mentioned, you can extract DNA from fallen foes and the environment to upgrade your arsenal, evolve your mantle, and unlock even more abilities called EchoSyncs to gain a greater edge in combat.

Turok: Origins is slated to release this fall on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2.

Oxide Room 104 developers WildSphere have announced that their upcoming Escape From Umbra will launch later this month on July 10 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. The game will move away from the developer’s earlier focus on explicit gore to immerse players in an atmosphere of ancient witchcraft and psychological horror.

For Xbox, the pre-order campaign featuring a limited-time exclusive discount will begin on July 3rd. On the same day, Steam users can check out a 15-minute playable demo. Nintendo Switch, Steam, and GOG launches will be accompanied by a discount during the first week.

Sure, the idea of Lovecraft in video games may be tired for some, but Lurker Entertainment has decided to mix things up with their newly-announced co-op action game, Elderfeast. Coming to Early Access on Steam next year, the game is headed up by Creative Director Ben Wanat, who worked on the original Dead Space trilogy. Elderfeast tasks you and your friends with hunting Lovecraftian horrors across the galaxy, slicing them up, and then cooking them.

You’ve just been made a member of The Order of the Void Eaters, and your job is to track and carve up an array of Lovecraftian-inspired horrors across the galaxy, then discover what they taste like. The better you cook, the stronger you become, but there’s always something more terrifying on the menu to hunt next.

As mentioned, you’ll be dismembering limbs, tentacles, and organs mid-combat, weakening your enemies while stocking your pantry with the freshest ingredients. You’ll have a variety of weapons to help you out in getting your ingredients, but that’s only part of it.

The other part is, of course, meal prep. Elderfeast touts a “unique immersive in-world cooking grid” that rewards clever placement and creative combinations, turning your hard-earned ingredients into something extraordinary. Master the cooking system to craft dishes that enhance your abilities, turning every successful recipe into a step toward becoming a more formidable chef.

Of course, it’s easier said than done, as you’ll be facing off against monsters that will eat anyone and anything. Feed them toxic ingredients, poisoned meals, and other creatures or you’ll find yourself at the top of the menu.

June is coming to a close, but if you’re still hankering for this month’s Steam Next Fest goodies, Kwalee and developer MAETH’s throwback first-person cyberpunk shooter SPRAWL zero still has its demo from the event available for you to check out. Inspired by 2000s console FPS games such as Halo, the SPRAWL zero demo contains the frenetic action, gameplay and music you enjoyed from the early days, with plenty of gore thrown in for good measure.

In SPRAWL zero, you play as FIVE, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier controlled by the Junta. Your directive is to eliminate SILAS, leader of the radical techno-religious group IMAGO-DEI. The city plunges into chaos as all factions known and unknown aim to take control.

Combat is described as fast-paced but grounded, where enemy squads will communicate and coordinate to fight for the advantage. They will flank you, provide covering fire to teammates, and utilize grenades to flush you out in callbacks to those early 2000s shooters.

As a result, you must outsmart and outmaneuver the opposition using any advantage possible. Luckily, you have a few tricks of your own. You can catch their bullets and throw them right back with the Gravity Shield, or bend your shots midair with Bullet-Time for inhuman precision. In all, you’ll have 40 weapons at your disposal.

In addition to Steam, SPRAWL zero is currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

Developer Offworld Industries and Knights Peak are still at it with Starship Troopers: Extermination dropping Update 11 for the 16-player co-op FPS, which sports new content additions, performance and optimization improvements as well as bug fixes. Oh, and you can also now take showers.

Yes, the Field Shower is a new buildable structure available for every Build Zone. Once constructed, the Field Shower provides Troopers with access to battlefield sanitation facilities. A shower will extinguish a burning Trooper, as well as provide a method of Health restoration.

Completing the full duration Federation Standardized Shower will also provide Troopers with a combat performance boost. Troopers who have recently showered will move slightly faster, jump higher, climb better, shoot more accurately, and gain additional Morale XP.

The update also introduces a series of rotating Critical Dispatches designed to support the war effort and reward continued service to the Federation. Additionally, every deployment cycle, Troopers will receive a fresh set of Daily Dispatches generated by Fleet Command. Troopers can do one refresh of the missions list per 24-hours. Exterminatation currently has 47 Critical Dispatches in rotation, with more to be added. Successful completion of Daily Missions will grant additional combat experience and contribute toward long-term DSV Service Record milestones.

In addition, the DSV Service Record System has been added to permanently document a Trooper’s military career and recognize exceptional contributions to the war effort. Every confirmed combat action, operational deployment, battlefield specialization, and successful mission contributes toward a growing Service Record reviewed by Federal Command. As Service Record milestones are completed, Troopers will earn Career Experience, advancing their standing within the Mobile Infantry.

For those wanted cosmetics, There’s a new Supporter Cosmetic Pack in The Tesla Giants Supporter Pack, allowing players to show their support for the Tesla Giants, the legendary Jump Ball team from Zander Barcalow’s high school. Inspired by the team’s dominance on the court, this cosmetic pack includes a Helmet Visor, Armor Uniform, Helmet Decal and Weapons Skin inspired by the Giants.

Starship Troopers: Extermination is currently available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

On the heels of The Relic: First Guardian getting its revised release date a few weeks back, Project Cloud Games and Perp Games have released a new (nearly) 13-minute gameplay deep dive video for the upcoming dark fantasy Soulslike. Along with noting that players will encounter stories inspired by traditional Korean folktales and legends, the trailer showcases some of the dungeon-crawling segments they’ll be encountering on their quest.

The Relic: First Guardian takes place on the fictitious continent of Arsiltus. You are the First Guardian, charged with embarking on a heroic adventure to save the world. The once-prosperous Arsiltus was swallowed up by the void created by the destruction of the great relic and transformed into the land of death. Now your mission is to find the pieces of the broken great relic and close the void.

Featuring more than 70 bosses known as “Brutals”, each one carries a personal tale of sorrow and tragedy of how they came to be the formidable foe that plagues the lands. It’s your task to overcome each Brutal by using a combination of unique weapons, magic, and skills that can be tailored to each playstyle or enemy interaction. As expected from its inspiration, every defence and dodge consumes stamina, requiring you to plan your attacks as well as your counters.

Players that come out victorious will inherit each unique tragic story of their enemy’s demise, along with special items, enhancements, and upgrades to progress through the story. These will aid in every subsequent fight as you explore vast environments and collect fragments to unlock more skills and weapons.

Look for  The Relic: First Guardian on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on July 31, while versions for the Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2 are expected later this year.

Capcom has kicked off their summer with a new Capcom Spotlight stream, which included a new five-minute “Game Overview” trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The trailer reveals a new foe that players will duel in the upcoming swordplay action game which launches on September 25 across PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series, the Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The footage provides a first look at Dohatsu-ten, a terrifyingly fast and bloodthirsty Genma. After carving its way into the mortal realm, this winged warrior from the depths of hell locks blades with protagonist Miyamoto Musashi in an intense boss battle.

And in case you missed it, pre-orders for Onimusha: Way of the Sword are available now, and include the “Sealed Curse” sword skin and “Lion Dog” charm as bonuses. You can also check out the demo on all platforms (save for the Switch 2).

Onimusha: Way of the Sword returns to a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai clash with the supernatural in cutting-edge combat. The game takes place in Kyoto during the early Edo period. In this time of relative peace for Japan, Malice has befallen the ancient city. Twisted into an eerie and unsettling place, Kyoto has been infested by the demonic Genma.

Grasshopper Manufacture has dropped its first major update on Steam for their bloody sci-fi action title ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN. Entitled “ROMEO IS CHANGED, MAN”, the update adds a Costume Change feature, which just so happens to include a collaboration with Devolver Digital’s Hotline Miami, and a Photo Mode. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series players can expect the update in the very near future.

The Hotline Miami collaboration with ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN allows players to try on Jacket’s “Chicken Mask” and the Biker’s “Full-face Helmet” while destroying Rotters and snapping photos to show off your stylish mayhem. Additionally, for those who haven’t yet snagged the game on Steam, you can do so with a 20% discount during the Steam Summer Sale. And on top of that, a new bundle with Hotline Miami is also available with a 10% discount.

To access the new costumes, clear the game and save your data. Then, head over to Romeo’s room on the Space-Time Ship to unlock the Costume Change feature. From there, you can deck yourself out in the two Hotline Miami setups, cycle through three different masks (the OG “Dead Gear L.E.D.”, the later-game “Dead Gear – Luminous”, and the “Dead Gear – Horned” inner mask) or swap between eight jackets (including your existing jacket) to customize Romeo however you like.

As for the Photo Mode, you can access this new feature from the pause menu, granting you full control to adjust the camera, tweak color correction, manipulate depth of field, and slap on custom frame art to capture your finest action moments.
