Primus Is Going 3D On Their Upcoming Tour
One of the oddest rock bands out there, Primus was never a group that played by conventions. Sounding more like a nightmarish travelling vaudeville act than a traditional musical endeavor, the band has developed a huge cult following over the years that only grows with each new release.
The band will be touring the States in support of their latest release, Green Naugahyde, and this tour will be a little bit different than your normal fare. The stage will have a special 3D backdrop as well as a quadrophonic sound system, which means 4.0 surround sound (think of the four corners of a square). Bassist/singer Les Claypool states that the end result will be, “…really trippy“. Fans will be handed 3D glasses for the concert. Tour dates are below.
This is not the first time that the band has done this type of concert. At the 2008 New Year’s Eve show at the San Francisco Opera House, the band utilized this type of experience. Claypool elaborates, “It’s a pretty adventurous undertaking. Had we not done it once before, I’d be a little skeptical. But the show we did at the San Francisco Opera House was pretty amazing, and the notion of touring it seems to be an even more amazing concept, so we’re doing it.”
Also, during the concerts, the band will be turning and facing the backdrop where they will, “… jam along with our visualist“.

Personally, I think this might be a very cool experience. It sounds like they are taking the traditional concert experience and figuring out how to add to it. Let’s just hope the 3D isn’t as bad as My Soul To Take, right? What are your thoughts? Seminal slasher Scream rewrote the rules in 1996, and for its 30th anniversary, Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings are celebrating with a new anniversary reissue of Marco Beltrami’s landmark score.
The original 14-track album returns to vinyl in a collectible “blood-soaked” sleeve on August 28.
If blood red isn’t your color, there’s good news: the reissue will also be available in many different limited-edition exclusive pressings.

Marco Beltrami composed the iconic score as a then young, up-and-coming composer—one who, ironically, had never scored or even seen a horror film.
Yet just three years after he completed the University of Southern California’s rigorous scoring program, Beltrami submitted 13 minutes of music for Scream’s opening sequence and his future was forever changed. “We knew in half a minute that we had found our composer,” Craven told Variety in 2012. “The music was haunting, beautiful and totally original. Marco turned out to be shy and soft-spoken, but a fountain of ideas and innovation. I never looked back.”
