Meet ‘Intruders’ Creature, Hollow Face, In Artistic Comic Poster
Millennium Entertainment has released released a “comic” poster designed by Jacen Burrows for the upcoming release of Intruders, the super weak genre film arriving in theaters March 30. We caught it at last September’s TIFF and was not a fan (read the review).
Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero and Kerry Fox, the faux (I mean this literally) supernatural thriller was directed by 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
“Though no one can see him, Hollow Face lurks in the corners, desperately desiring love but only knowing how to spread fear and hate. He creeps into the life of John Farrow (Clive Owen) after Farrow’s beloved 13-year-old daughter Mia (Ella Purnell) is assaulted in their home. The line between the real and the imaginary blurs as fissures start to open within the family unit. It seems that no security measure can keep Hollow Face out.“About Jacen: “He graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1996 with a degree in Sequential Art. He has worked with several comic companies over the years including Caliber Press and London Night Studios, and is currently working under an exclusive contract with Avatar Press. Since working with Avatar he has worked with several of comics most prominent names including Alan Moore, Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis.
His comic work includes The Courtyard, Dark Blue, Scars, and 303. Outside of comics he has done illustration work for several video game and role playing game companies, including work on Rockstar Games’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and TSR’s Dungeons & Dragons.
He cites influences as varied as Matt Wagner and Tim Truman to Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch.”
The towering Pirate Clark in Kane Parsons’ Backrooms was an almost entirely practical creation, with former basketball player Robert Bobroczkyi bringing the monstrous character to life on screen. The Romanian–Hungarian actor stands a towering 7-foot, 7″ tall, and he previously played the character known as the Offspring in Fede Alvarez’s Alien Romulus.
As Luiz H.C. noted in an article here on Bloody Disgusting last month, “Though there was some obvious CGI involved in making the character’s peg-leg and nightmarish face more believable, Robert Bobroczkyi’s monstrous performance and his natural frame helped to make that final chase sequence a clear highlight among this year’s genre offerings.”
How did they pull it all off? A behind the scenes documentary will be included on the upcoming Backrooms physical media release, and A24 is offering up a sneak peek this week.
A24 previews the footage released today, “Robert Bobroczkyi’s transformation into Pirate Clark from the exclusive making-of doc, only available on the Backrooms Blu-ray.”
“Pirate Clark is a monster. He understands his body. He knows what his powers are. What he can do. What his limitations are,” creature performer Robert Bobroczkyi explains in the clip. “So his movements and his actions are deliberate. He doesn’t just twitch for no reason.”
He adds, “The prosthetics include the two hand pieces, and then the helmet, the face, the head piece. The head’s quite heavy. You don’t see a lot out of it. But it’s really cool.”
