As I mentioned in my review of the second season premiere of Salem, it had a bit of a rocky start during it’s first season. When the series was first announced, I admit that I laughed a bit. WGN America isn’t a major (or even minor) network, but I was curious. After all, if Netflix can put out such amazing television, why not give WGN the benefit of the doubt. While the pilot of Salem had it’s interesting moments, it ultimately didn’t really know what it wanted to be. Was it a serious look at history? A ridiculous soap? Some off-kilter combination of the two? It suffered from an identity crisis that hampered the enjoyment you should have received from the show. I’m happy to say that Salem has figured itself out, and is all the better for it! Here are some of the main reasons you should be watching.
