[Random Cool] Huey Lewis Takes An Axe To ‘American Psycho’

In competition for the “meta of the day” award is this brilliant send-up of American Psycho featuring Huey Lewis and Weird Al Yankovic. Not only does it accurately describe that film’s subtext (or text, as there’s very little “sub” about it) and cultural ascent, it manages to do so using the object – Huey Lewis – of the conversation in the film that it recreates. It’s like an infinite loop. READ MORE

‘Devil’s Knott’ Just Got Family Friendly. That’s Kinda Lame.

While she once was an edgy upcoming starlette (Freeway, American Psycho, Fear and S.F.W.), Reese Witherspoon is now a family friendly actress that stars in movies like Four Christmases, Monsters vs Aliens, Vanity Fair and Legally Blonde. It’s weird announcing her addition to Atom Egoyan’s West Memphis Three drama Devil’s Knot. It makes me nervous. READ MORE

00′s Retrospect: Bloody Disgusting’s Top 20 Films of the Decade…Part 1

In this first installment of Bloody-Disgusting’s “Top 20 Horror Films of the 2000s” list, voted on by the staff of B-D, we begin the countdown with one honorable mention followed by numbers 20-16. If there’s a theme running through the following picks, it’s that bigger isn’t necessarily better. With the exception of one of the films (which itself had a relatively small budget), all of them were made for $11 million or less. From gory, surreal slasher films to subtle ghost stories, these movies represent cases of resourceful directors managing to do a lot with very little. (more…) READ MORE

Lil’ D Calls Bale’s ‘Machinist’ ‘”Immaculate”

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is Christian Bale and Jennifer Jason Leigh’s The Machinist, which is still awaited a US release date. The film premiered tonight at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, and my lil brother was there to witness the film in all of its glory. He said Christian Bale – whom lost an astounding 63 pounds for the role – “tore it up” as Trevor Reznik. He continued, “the his acting was perfection, as usual, just like in American Psycho.” He also exclaimed that the film was “immaculate” and that the ending was simply “amazing.” He can’t wait to get home and write up a full blown review for the film. Until then, visit the official site, where the trailer used to be, but seems to be missing now. Don’t forget, word from Lions Gate Film’s acquisition, Saw, is coming either late night tomorrow, or Tuesday Morning – and watch for full reviews later in the coming weeks. (more…) READ MORE
