We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). READ MORE
BREAKING: Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned that genre veteran Brad Anderson (Session 9, Vanishing on 7th Street, Transsiberian, The Machinist) is to direct NBC’s “Midnight Sun” pilot. READ MORE

Darren Lynn Bousman’s (Saw 2,3, and 4) upcoming 11-11-11 looks to be a full on religious horror movie in the vein of The Omen and The Exorcist and now we have some new stills that are very much in keeping with that vibe. READ MORE
In the decade-plus period of time that has passed since the release of Scream 3, there’s no doubt that the horror landscape has changed significantly. In the intervening years we’ve witnessed the rise of the torture porn craze, seen a resurgence in “found footage”/shaky-cam horror, and watched helplessly as a seemingly unyielding series of remakes cluttered up our local multiplexes. One of our favorite things to do here at Bloody Disgusting is let our writers take the ball and run with it. What would be the point in bringing you content if we didn’t enjoy writing it? I’d like to introduce our new contributor, Rebel Phoenix, who is passionate about the “classics”. Today he would like to present to you a new list, “The Top 10 Most Influential Horror Movies You’ve NEVER Even Heard Of (…Let Alone Seen),” all of which were released before Hitchcock’s seminal Psycho. Read on and tell Rebel what you think of his work below! (more…) READ MORE
We’ve learned of some new casting possibilities for Brad Anderson’s serial killer thriller Jack that’s been delayed after a planned August shoot. We’re told that Liev Schreiber (Scream, The Omen, Wolverine, Repo Men) has been offered the lead role of ‘Jack’, with Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes on a Plane) in negotiating for ‘Pete Chandler’. No word on what this means for John Cusack who was originally cast way back in May. Penned by David Venable, the film centers on a doctor who rehabilitates and ultimately falls for an accident victim with memory loss, unaware that he is actually a killer. Anderson directed Session 9, The Machinist, Transiberian and the forthcoming Vanishing on 7th Street. (more…) READ MORE
Consider this an open letter to every cliche that’s ever made us laugh with its predictability, or weep at its implausibility. While I realize cliches are what makes the world go round, I’m pretty sure they’re right up there with other vital things like Jolly Ranchers and fossil fuels; the horror genre in particular tends to be plagued by these the most. More often than not the problem lies with just how extraordinarily difficult it is to scare someone who’s sitting on their couch, safely hidden deep under a mound of Cheetos, in their locked home surrounded by other homes. Other times this epidemic can by blamed on the film’s creator who, whether by a lack of imagination or money, wasn’t able to think of (or create) something startling and unpredictable. Here are some of the more annoyingly prevalent cliches out there that I really, really want to leave the horror genre and go back into Michael Bay’s films where they belong. (more…) READ MORE

Hammer Films’ revival has already been successful, even if no film has yet to hit theaters. The studio not only has Let Me In arriving in theaters this October, but they also have The Resident (the Hilary Swank thriller) in the can and a remake of The Woman in Black in the works. Bloody Disgusting caught up with Simon Oakes – CEO of the revamped studio – who revealed that they have remakes of Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, Quatermass and Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde in the works! It wasn’t fair, really. Here I was, seconds away from making my big debut in a feature film, and the snot just wouldn’t stop coming. Not to mention the fact that I was shaking like a wet dog, not only on account of the cold (which I also blame for the endless snot flow) but from sheer, unadulterated terror. At that moment I couldn’t help but wonder how exactly I’d ended up here, at this drive-in movie theater in the City of Industry (one of only two drive-ins remaining in the L.A./Orange county vicinity, in case you care), freezing my balls off and taking photos of a “dead guy” in a dumpster while a dolly-mounted movie camera captured my every move… (more…) READ MORE
