Pros: Solid acting, fantastic gore, blood covered breasts and Peter Stormare.
Cons: Same story we’ve seen in at least a dozen other films and the gore does take a little while to REALLY kick in, but it’s worth the wait.
Very recommended.
Strip this movie of all the plot characteristics that we’ve come to see far too often and you have a movie that hold it’s own. The story revolves around a mental hospital and it’s patients, this movie takes its time telling the story of the hospital and the crulities that go on behind its razor wired fences but it does it quit well with camra angles and atmosphere. The violence we’ve come to expect from this type of horror is there of corse but in a way thats not over done, the acting is above average and so is the script, I really enjoyed this one it was a light hearted horror that makes you forget the rest of the world for the short period of time it takes to watch it. I give INSANITARIUM 7 CRAP THROUGHING BIPOLERS out of 10 CRAP THROUGHING BIPOLERS!!!
A good movie!!!!
Great choice in Characters for this film.
The Gore meter is good, but takes awhile.
The story line is pretty neat, something they havent really done yet.
hope to see a Sequal!!!!
this movie was actually pretty good. i was bored at work and decided to watch it. it has the same over played story line, but the characters were entertaining and some pretty decient gore. a should see but probly not one i will be purchasing.
Peter Stomare! What else do you need to Know??. Well This is a well written, Weird and darkly comic horror movie. Kinda “28 Days later”, meets,”Re-Animator” Good Performances From the actors you’ll recognise, and Good Performances From The Ones You Won’t. All-in-All A Gem of a movie.
This is MUCH better than it would appear. Not to say it’s a “good” movie, but it is an ass-load of fun, and covered in blood and guts.
The main character is the only real let-down, as he plays the typical pretty boy, prime time tv kind of role, and just BARELY acts his way through this. But you can forgive that because as soon as his shtik starts wearing thin on you, shit hits the fan and bodies start piling up fast.
For a direct to video release you really can’t do much better than this for entertainment. And Peter Stormare is as fucked up as ever. Never a dull moment.
This movie started out kind of slow but ended in a blood soaked frenzy! It took a little while but it was well worth the wait. The good out weighs the bad and overall is worth checking out. The gore is awsome and Peter Stormare is good as well.
Just admit it, you fucking pricks gave this horrible piece of shit 3 and 1/2 stars just because there’s lots of food colored Caro syrup and some lame ass “brutal gore” at the end. It’s a total turd, unsave-able by even Peter Sotmare. I’m sooooooo goddam sick of you half-a-nut-sac gore wussies evaluating movies on blood and guts alone! Get over it, ya little girls — blood and guts flicks are lame and they’re just getting lamer by the day. Anyone who’s still freaked out by gore is just a giant pussy…come on, it’s old hat already!
Not too bad, but I just couldn’t get into the plot. A guy gets himself thrown into a nut-house in order to save his crazy sister then finds out the doctors are insane. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. Worth a rental though. Tons of gore!
So this is apparently the guy writing “Midnight Meat Train” which is supposed to be THE next big horror movie. Well the last time there was hype of this tone, it came in the form of Eli Roth and Hostel- so I’m aware of false prophets.
To describe the movie quickly, it’s like a z-budget crew does better than they should, but considering they’re not even coloring that corn syrup right, there’s not much to expect of them. There’s no story here; the doctor character is so vapid and like a character exercise than a real character. The plot’s dumb – guy gets himself committed so he can save his sister from the hospital’s secret experiments which is turning the residents into zombieish-wannabes. It’s “The Crazies” but set entirely in an asylum, which would sound AWESOME, but the one scene in Nightmare on Elm Street (2 I think it was or maybe 3) where the madmen rape Freddy’s mother to create him packs more punch than this whole film.
It’s a nice try, but inconsequential because its script sucks. You can’t have a totally serious take on this plotline in modern horror – it’s just laughable to make something so artificial seem important with this sort of action-oriented directing approach.
All bitching done, this is better than ‘Cabin Fever’ so maybe MMT has hope yet if the Buhlan guy has gotten better at his form and the director can make the actors take his stuff seriously (if he insists on continuing with the serious, everything needs tightening ESPECIALLY his characterizations… this is pathetic and akin to what a “madlibs horror bot” would generate, cept it’s not at all amusing, and it certainly doesn’t scare.
People should only be seeing this years and years from now IF and BECAUSE of what the director has done since, like how I look back on Romero’s “The Crazies” and can see the talent percolating but not yet peaking. Thing is though – if you pit this movie directly against “The Crazies” from which it derives, Insanitarium’s clunky melodrama cannot stand up to the simple fear drama of the focal group in “The Crazies”. There are a few promising cinematography shots in the movie, and the director does better than most with production effects (except for the blood color problems).
High body count, but low logic. Sometimes that can be a great combo. Most of the time, like now, it is just as crappy and thrill-less as it sounds.
This was just an ok movie with alot of gore and ok some off colored blood. Alot of off colored blood. With that much blood maybe they couldn’t get the color right. Definitely worth renting. Remember its just a movie that tries to entertain the gore hounds out there and it does that.
Not bad at all, but I’ve seen better in this genre.I couldn’t get into the plot, the characters are empty, although the gory scenes are so greatly disgusting that I hardly can watch them.
the plot is stupid as hell but once the crazys escape the movie becomes great
Cool movie
What can i say crazy movie.Worth the watch though i thought the ending was lame way to predictable.
i think that was a really good movie. the acting was surprisingly good and the gore was well done. i like the mental hospital movie genre because the insane freak me out and they had some very talented actors playing those parts. i was never really bored at any point of the movie. lots of gore and body counts. loved it.
i loved this movie… i actually wanted it to keep going… the gore was good… the acting was great… and the script was well written for it being as brutal as it was!
i definitely liked it, blood was awesome, acting was pretty good. I loved how it had a very “One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest” vibe with the whole corrupt power and drugs. For direct to video i was definitely impressed
Awesome the blood is splattered all over the place.Plus OLIVIA MUNN in it as a nurse.
Just a terrible movie–bad story, bad direction, silly bloodletting, and abysmal(!) acting. Peter Stormare is making a living out of these kind of grade C total crapfest “horror” movies. I enjoy low budget horror, but this is just awful. Another shining example of a dvd on the 5 for $20 table at the vid store for a very obvious reason–the movie sucks and they want to get it the hell out of there. Not recommended at all.
