[Review] FF ’11: Second Thoughts on ‘Paranormal Activity 3′

After a mind-blowing secret screening this past Sunday (a title the entire theatre had to swear not to mention on Twitter, FB, or out loud), everyone at Fantastic Fest was theorizing out the wazoo as to what the second one would be. Paramount was rumored to be the studio, which opened the flood gates and had attendees guessing Hugo, MI:4, Tintin or Paranormal Activity 3, with the latter proving to be correct. READ MORE

TV: Spike TV’s “Scream Awards” Nominees Announced – Very Few Actual Horror Movies!

Yeah yeah yeah. I know that the “Scream Awards” celebrate other genres besides horror. But the thing takes place in October. And it’s called the “Scream Awards”. And it’s kind of weird that Super 8 is nominated for best “Scream-Play” since it has very few screams and certainly isn’t a very good screenplay to begin with. READ MORE

Want to See the Japanese ‘Paranormal Activity’ Sequel ‘Tokyo Night’?

While Paranormal Activity 2 was making box office gold here in the States, Japan quietly released Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night, their own direct sequel to Oren Peli’s smash hit indie from 2009. Directed by Toshikazu Nagae, we learned that Amazon UK has listed the haunted house flick for pre-order on February 28 from Icon. The project is a direct continuation of the events of Oren Peli and Jason Blum’s original and takes place in Japan as a girl who visited San Diego as an exchange student unwittingly brings the evil that haunted Katie Featherston into her family’s house. The film chronicles the young woman’s videotape recordings in their house and the shocking realization of the supernatural force that her family must defeat. (more…) READ MORE

Rumor Control: ‘Disturbia’ Writer Pens ‘Paranormal Activity 3′

Update: Apparently the press release for ‘Burning Palms’ and IMDB were wrong in listing Landon as a writer. Official update forthcoming. Christopher B. Landon (Disturbia, Blood and Chocolate – and director of the forthcoming Burning Palms) and Michael R. Perry are both responsible for penning Paranormal Activity 3 for Room 101, Paramount Pictures and producer Oren Peli, writes IMDB and the Burning Palms press release. Doing a little research, while Perry is listed on IMDB as the writer of Paranormal Activity 2, Landon is now also listed as a participant. I guess you can say they’re reteaming for the trilogy? Story details for the next film is being held under lock and key, but Paramount has officially announced an October 21, 2011 release date. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: HORROR GUY KEENAN’S TOP 10 OF 2010

It was a rough year finding good horror films in theaters. The last two years seemed to have some great gems. Not to mention a lot of theaters pulled some great horror movies out way to early (but I won’t go into that whole shenanigans right now). I had to look elsewhere for decent horror and stumbled upon a few I think will be soon to be classics. So read below and check out my top list of 2010. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: THEO’S TOP 10 OF 2010

While many would say that this year was ‘slow’ for the horror genre, I would have to firmly disagree. Last year when I was compiling my list of films for my ‘Best Of 2009′, I was having trouble even remembering half the movies I had seen that year. Of course, the top 5 were cemented, but by the time I got past the sixth film on that list things began to get a bit hazy. That was the direct opposite this year as I had to leave out several films that could have easily made the list last year. But alas, there are only 10 spots, and so for all of you gorehounds, big and small, young and old…I give you my look back at the years best films in the horror genre. Read on for the skinny! Best & Worst ’10: MICAH’S BOTTOM 5 OF 2010

Not every film released to direct-to-disc can be a winner. This list contains five such disc only releases from 2010. I attempted to not pick on the little guys (too much) and instead took a look at some of the larger disc release disappointments of the year. Luckily or unluckily depending on your outlook, it wasn’t hard to come up with a list of failures. Check ‘em out below. While this list is only DVD releases I would feel guilty if I didn’t at least mention widely released Legion in this intro. So I will. Legion. You suck. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of ’10: RYAN DALEY’S BOTTOM 5 OF 2010

My ‘Worst of the Year’ list gets harder to put together each year, if only because I try to actively avoid shit I know I probably won’t like. I’ve skipped the last five Saw sequels, refused to subject myself to either of Rob Zombie’s Halloween bastardizations, and I’ve never seen a Twilight movie. What’s the point? I figure life is so short, and there are so many decent horror movies out there, why waste 90 precious minutes on a guaranteed bust like Paranormal Activity 2? But even when employing a heavy-duty entertainment filter, some shit will invariably seep through the cracks. There’s no way that I can possibly ‘unsee’ the following five films from 2010-like lingering memories of the Vietnam War, their cinematic ineptitude will forever take up space in my subconscious-but perhaps my pain and anguish can serve as a warning for any fatally curious horror fans out there. Best & Worst of 2010: The Year’s Worst One Sheets

The task of selling a film is probably much, much harder than any of us realize, which is why posters meant to stir up excitement for upcoming releases are often so badly calculated. 2010 has been no exception, with a large number of god-awful (or just plain boring) one-sheets cluttering up the lobbies of multiplexes all across the country. Here’s B-D’s list of the worst offenders from the past year. (more…) READ MORE

Full Specs for ‘Paranormal Activity 2′ DVD/Blu-ray

Paranormal Activity 2 materializes in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and standard DVD February 8, 2011 from Paramount Home Entertainment. Hailed by critics and audiences alike as “one of the scariest films of all time” (ARTISTDirect), PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 solidifies the franchise as the hottest new horror series that has viewers clamoring for more. The chillingly realistic prequel to 2009’s horror phenomenon chronicles the frightening days leading up to the events of the original film, marking the return of Katie, Micah and the terrifying and malevolent presence that’s torturing them. When Katie’s sister Kristi and her husband find their house vandalized after bringing home their new baby, they set up 24-hour surveillance cameras. Spoilerly Sequence Involving Jill in ‘Saw 3D’ Red Band Clip

One of the worst things about running a website like Bloody is that I have to read everything, look at every image and watch every clip. Not this time. I hear the below red band clip from Saw 3D features a pretty spoilerly sequence involving Jill (Betsy Russell), thus I am refusing to watch. Read on if you want to see it, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Saw 3D hits theaters next Friday. Can it take down Paranormal Activity 2? What will you see? (more…) READ MORE

A New ‘Paranormal Activity 2′ Viral Finds Its Way Online, But It’s NOT a Video

If you’ve been keeping up with the news you’ll know about the 6 viral videos Paramount Pictures slipped across the Nation for Paranormal Activity 2. One constant in all of the said articles was a return address, 40 University Dr, Rindge, NH 03461 — Franklin Pierce University. We just discovered that an official website now exists for the University newspaper known as the “Pierce Arrow”, which also links out to the University’s own website that featured an article on PA 2, and how there’s a connection to their campus. What is the connection you ask? Start taking some guesses below and find the answers in theaters on October 22. (more…) READ MORE

Meet the Riverton Ripper in ‘My Soul to Take’ Trailer, Clean Poster!

Do they share more than just a birthday? Yahoo! Movies secretly posted the trailer debut for Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take, his latest horror project that now opens on October 8th, evading both Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2. Instead, it will open against Anchor Bay’s unrated I Spit on Your Grave in a limited release. The footage looks pretty cool, although the music screams 90′s, and the promise of 3-D makes me quite uncomfortable. Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think. Are you planning on hitting the theater? In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? (more…) READ MORE

Teaser Poster for Wes Craven’s ‘My Soul to Take’

BD reader ‘Joey M.’ sent us in your first look at the teaser poster for Universal Pictures’ My Soul to Take, their post-converted 3-D horror tale from horror legend Wes Craven. Starring Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Meade, Uni is pushing this up against Saw 3D on October 29, while also taking on Paranormal Activity 2 in its second week of release. Hasn’t anybody learned from the idiotic battle between H2 and The Final Destination? Whichever wins, we all lose. Every asshole will report horror as a box office flop — again. In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. A Killer Tease of Wes Craven’s ‘My Soul to Take’

I’m still willing to bet that Universal Pictures shifts Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take (formerly 24/7) yet again. It’s set to open on October 29th against Saw 3D, and Paranormal Activity 2 in its second week of release. Why not move it closer to the release of Scream IV and use “from the director of Scream” as a way to promote it? Anyways, three new images leaked online that appear to be hi-res screen grabs. One teases the killer. Nice. (more…) READ MORE
