Wow…Now it’s been a long time since I said that when it comes to a movie. Or anything really. But I’ll say it again. Wow! Battle: Los Angeles looked fantastic from it’s electrifying TV spots and Trailers but who knew it would actually live up to the intensity I hoped for. And it does and it’s so much than I could have hoped for. The film is simplistic in concept we get invaded this is the story of the marine platoon who discovers a weakness in the deadly E.T. force turning the war back into our favor. There’s a little bit of backstory thrown in at the beginning so we get a gist of each individual. But when the action starts it doesn’t stop and it is intense. Don’t think this is Transformers or even Independence Day for that matter this is a new beast borrowing from 80′s classics like Aliens and Predator and adding in the realism of Paranormal Activity if you will. The movie is so intense, it’s a little corny in parts but emotionally engaging nonetheless, it’s terrifying in parts, even a little disturbing but most of all it’s just a great time at the movies a big buttery, salty popcorn flick. The film doesn’t aim for depth and even though it offers glimpses of a different film it doesn’t veer away from it’s true intention. Which is to entertain the shit out of you. And it does. I laughed, I cried, I sweated and I cheered, in fact everyone did when the movie ended. Battle Los Angeles is truly an electrifying roller coaster ride of a film. And it owes it all too Johnathan Liebesman director of the somewhat promising but silly Darkness Falls and the grim but rawly dread drenched Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the beginning. he brings those elements here with a little sprinkle of when Michael Bay made good films. Sure the acting isn’t spot on all the time and the major problem to be honest is the screenplay with some truly insepif dialogue. But the film is beautifully done, with great creative cinematography and sound effects that will blow you away and some surprisingly involving performances especially from Aaron Eckheart and Bridget Moynahan. And being a gay man I must say I came across a new crush Gino Anthony Nesi he’s so gorgeous and I hope to see much more of him in movies to come. All in all a super, great entertaining film the best film of it’s kind in the last twenty years.
B.R.U.T.A.L
Holy smack. this movie was nuts. makes me forget all about skyline (even though I thought it was a cool fun me it was weak, but that ending was awesome though) this movie though did suffer from horrible writing, but it made up for it in some of the sickest off the wall battle scenes since black hawk down. The aliens were awesome we didn’t get to see them that much just like clover but when we did see them they were some of the coolest looking creatures in a long time. the plot it’s self and why the aliens were here was rather interesting and very different. that hollywood is how a movie is made. I am deft paying to see this movie again.
and I kind of hope for another one.
kept me entertain from start to end. And like Mr. D said it’s deft a summerish kind of movie expect in march. So go in knock the cold out of you warm up ands get ready for 2hrs of alien ass kickin.
As soon as i saw the trailer i was extremely excited for this movie i didnt know much about and that was a good thing. When the movie was over all i could say to my buddy was AMAZING!
I know its been getting harsh reviews, but you no what fuck those critics! This movie is an intense action packed war movie with some story and emotion to it. When you go into a movie like this you dont want to spend an hour getting to know these guys, you want to see them fighting aliens! All the actors were great and perfect for there parts, Echart was awesome. People who say this no story and characterization etc. are completely wrong. Theres plenty of that, something i did want was sort of a whole infantry taking on the aliens but thiss isnt this one and thats a really good thing because at the end of this movie thats where it looks like it going!
The designs of the aliens etc. is very fifferent but thats good, something new. I really liked there weopons, there ships are a bit iffy for me. The score was fantastic as always by Brian Tyler. The shaky camera work i loved, which was critisized.
Final Thoughts, IT WAS GREAT!!! If you want to watch a movie with lots of action, some story, and good and fun characters watch it!
I REALLY LIKED THIS!! It was a great evening at the movies…Not horror..but it is a great summer blockbuster..in MARCH? Oh well.. something tells me this movie would of done better 4th of july week.. but hey.. I liked the intensity and action from start to finish..GOOD MOVIE.. check it out..
The movie was OK. I was bored halfway through because i was instantly thrown into the action with ZERO character/story development. Liked the idea of the Drone alien and ships. Amazing Special Effects. I would of liked to learn just a little more of the Aliens. WE got the idea of what they were doing only from a news broadcast thats magically still running and interviewing a scientist. yeah. right.
i thought this movie was pretty awesome… it was alot of fun… sure its not ike an oscar worthy movie but i definitlly enjoyed it… and for those saying its alot of action… its called BATTLE los angeles….battle…. hahah fun movie
Kick Ass Alien Invasion Movie. They Want Our Water We Say Taste our Bullets Lots of Explosions Turn Off Brain and Have Good Time at Battle of Los Angeles!
Great alien action movie. It’s what you would expect and if you love action movies than you have to see this. I loved it in every way. Easily one of the best movies i’ve seen this year so far.
So much potential but at the end It was just ok…
Pretty entertaining film overall. The dialogue was just way too cheesy at times the though. The action was spectacular, but could have been better.
This movie could be a recruiting film for the U.S. Marines. With L.A. and most major cities of the world under high tech Extra-Terrestrial invasion, a small band of intrepid Marines are sent behind the battle lines to retrieve some beleaguered civilians. Will they end up saving the world? Aaron Eckhart is manly and emotive as the Master Sgt. nearing retirement who is called into action one last time, and who becomes the heart and brains of the small unit. I knew the aliens were in trouble when Michelle Rodriguez showed up to join the group. Lots of action, gunfire, explosions, intrusive music, jittery handheld camera effects, and CGI later, the movie reaches a satisfying dénouement. It’s actually a lot of fun, much better than “Skyline,” a similarly themed invasion movie from last year, but not nearly as good as “Black Hawk Down,” the movie from which I suspect, the screenwriters borrowed heavily. Turn off your critical faculties and you just might have a ripping good time.
Sorry critics. But you got it wrong again. Is it a crime for a movie to be popcorn fun entertainment these days? That is exactly what this movie is. The only negative thing I could really say about the film is that the dialogue is extremely cheesy at time. Overall, the movie was badass. The acting was top notch, the movie delivered touching moments, and the action was non stop. Thats all I wanted from this movie and I got it. Great movie with astounding effects. Make sure you see this one in the theater.
Fucking least entertaining movie I’ve seen in years! Why is it on this site, it’s not a horror movie! Picture war of the worlds, but through the eyes of the military, been there done that….boring…….
i am giving this two skulls cause i took my little cousins out to see this and they, of course, loved it. i on the other hand thought it sucked ass!! what a waste of money, next time i’ll take them to see an animation, that will at least be interesting.
This movie is more like some type of video game. This has nothing really horrible in it but it is not the kind of gory horror that I like. It feels more like a toned down Resident Evil flik. The military conquer through intelligence and destroy the alien base. End of story.
While it didn’t meet my expectations and the theme is becoming tiresome it still was an overall entertaining, tense, chaotic and relentless action but disheartening moviegoing experience. This is more on how the military would handle the end of the world and if aliens try to take over than civilians perspective and survival like in Independence Day and 2012 which are two more enjoyable films. This movie is more bleak and a harshly more realistic outcome than some sweet hollywood ending, this one is rough and tough. The acting was great in this with a standout performance from Aaron Eckhart who defenitely carries the film and is a bad@ss action star in this and he should be in more movies like this. The special effects are very amazing in this but reminded me of Terminator: Salvation but it really didn’t bother me but they could of done it better and more uniquely or at least creepy. The thing that bothered me was that it really showed the attacks on the cities just briefly on the news they showed on t.v. screens in the movie so it never had an indepth look on the attacks just after the fact. It also left no room for suspense it just got right into the action and the battle that it became mostly predictable and at almost 2 hours it was nonstop explotions and loud noises that your ears may be ringing at the end of it. The story was also kind of flat and familiar and wasn’t strong enough to be memorable and it had so much potential to be better than it ended up being and it could of been the next Independence Day or even better than that but fell short disappointingly. Overall it was disappointing but thankfully not as bad as it could have been thanks to a stellar center performance and effects and makes up for a good popcorn flick but unfortunately not a must see. Rent it!
amazing movie, used concepy buy iy breathes in a breath of fresh air and originality, interesting look for the aliens, overall a great movie
I was so excited for this movie and god was I let down. I was bored to tears! I kept thinking please be over please be over. ugh, a borefest. And I really wanted to like it.
Loved this movie. I agree with Babyface.
The trailer was good…
the action was cool, somewhat exciting, and fun. however if the aliens weren’t fuckin robots the movie would have been awesome, but the aliens are fuckin robots so it was just decent. the camera work and special effect were great the story was good but i was pissed and completely let down by how they advertised and promoted the movie and then seeing it. especially with all the posters and stories of past sightings they used to promote it then they weren’t mentioned not even once in the film and when the aliens did show up everyone was astonished and were like “what there is a such thing as aliens?” at least one government person could of came out and said something about it. overall i was disappointed but it was fun. i won’t watch it over and over like Independence Day.
not horror sci-fi but a really great movie.
My hopes for this movie were really high, not only because of the impressive trailer, but also because I friggin’ love the previous works of Jonathan Liebesman (the stunning short “Rings”, the amazing “TCM: The Beginning” and the cool “Killing Room”).
Unfortunately, “Battle: Los Angeles”, one of everyone’s most anticipated movies of 2011, turned out to be a huge, stinking pile of shit.
This movie is a miracle. Apart from 2-3 fairly tense scenes and a couple of nice one-liners, there was absolutely nothing interesting or entertaining about this garbage. I repeat: NOTHING!
Loads of bland and dull explosion/shooting/fighting scenes. An armada of boring-looking aerial drones and completely unimpressing aliens. Many surprisingly lame-loking CGI / special effects. What the heck did they used the 70 million bucks for?
The completely insubstantial script was probably written by a 3-year-old. No plot, nearly no tension or suspense, a whole lotta horribly boring scenes, no character development, a large amount of dumb clichés and a stupid ending.
The actors tried their best to give good performances, but eventually all of them (even Aaron Eckhart) came off as one-dimensional, wooden and emotionless.
Worst of all:
the unappealing soundtrack and the incredibly annoying fast-zoom-in camera-style which was (over)used over the entire term!
This was one of the most disappointing in-theater-experiences of my whole life. I mean, I paid EUR 8,50 (=12$) for this crap – 8,50 totally wasted! 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back!
“Skyline” was way more entertaining than this, and I assume that even Asylum’s “Battle OF Los Angeles” is more fun to watch.
This movie makes Skyline look like sesame street, it had what we all wanted from it,”action”. We all know what to expect from a movie like this, we’ve seen this premise a million times, but I like how they executed it. This is just a war movie with aliens in it, they kept it simple. I wish they would have went more gory with it, but theres enough action to look past it. I knew this would be good because I am a fan of Jonathan Liebesman, ready to see what else he comes out with.
This movie disappointed me, the performances are very poor and although the action is constant and has very good special effects, the story is very poor, only seen through the eyes of the military becomes a mediocre film. The trailer looked awesome, but the film is not. Seems to believe that only with special effects already have a good movie, but it is not.
And another thing this is not a horror movie!!!
This is about 95% blatant propaganda for how awesome the marines are and 5% aliens.
I almost fell asleep 3 times in the theater, cardboard characters, no tension, no excitement, absolutely nothing to keep me interested other than the fact I paid to see this.
Easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
This is not horror at all, but it was a fun little pop-corn ride with tons of action. I feel it’s worth a watch, but again, not a horror film even a little bit.
Basically this is the same movie Hollywood’s been feeding everyone for the last 30 years. A corny, high gloss slice of Americana. Not smart, kinda boring, completely self unaware movie that takes itself way too seriously. Mediocre.
The most unoriginal piece of work that Hollywood has released this year. It really is dreadful to sit through. Hell, it even steals it’s ending from Black Hawk Down (minus the good dialogue.) And one shot in particular has a stunning resemblence to District 9′s climax. Save your time and money skip this mediocre mess of a film.
Before I saw this movie, I thought ‘Hmmm, another war of the worlds or skyline movie?’ After seeing it though, I was happy and it met my expectations. It’s not a perfect sci-fi movie, but it has great characters and lots of action. The plot isn’t original, but the movie is worth seeing at least once
I didn;t like it yeah it had some gun action totally but I felt the story line was weak and just a lame movie I just couldn;t wait for it to end always so crazy looking aliens trying to get us at lease district 9 was much better then this.
If you don’t like action movies, this is not for you. This isn’t really a horror film. There are just aliens, lots of gun fire, and explosions… all things I love in a movie. I don’t think there was an actor whose performance I didn’t like (Eckhart and Rodriguez especially — awesome), the alien design was interesting, and the marines were badass. Great movie, just not a great HORROR movie.
what a piece of garbage this film was dull and pointless
It’s like Predators meets Independence day/ Cloverfield as an alien Invasion attack twenty major city in the world, it show the battle in Los Angles. The Movie differently has thrills throughout the begging, but wears thin out of the film, I also like the theme & setting story of the marine staff courage and ability to help the civilisation. I am mixed with the storyline that is set in the film, while the directions was pretty ok (as it must have been hard to film this movie) the loud sound, movements and angles of the camera made me want to be sick. Honestly the special effects were pretty crap but did have good visual effects and the aliens were in robotic army form which I liked, but thought it was a strange way for them to be like that. I will say the action did look full on really & with the special effect alien made it look quite really too, it was full on performed well into the movie and combat was great, the acting was pretty much top form to brilliant standard from the cast, sad to say it was slight a disappointment of a movie for me (The Trailer really did promote excellent well) & it really dose try to hard being the next Independence day and Cloverfield movie, which nothing much original in the sci-fi genre part, it was a decent movie and would watch again.
