CommentRESIDENT EVIL: Retribution (2012) – ” It’s all over the same thing. ”
Another 3D commercial flick, people who love it, will love it still, to whose doesn’t, might find that is kinda annoying to look at.
Catch up the last one, the movie packed with SLOW-MOTION scenes, from the beginning till the very end. Of course, with the 3D, it’s pretty eye catching. But in case you are intend to see it in 2D, one advice, don’t go for it.
It seem that the movie never thought of putting an
end to it, and somehow, the filmmakers are able to bring out more crazy ideas for the story “could” held to next RE movies.
I am okay to the movie, since I’m the original game fan, I would love to see Ada Wong has her debut, Leon is kinda like a cameo though. But it’s good to see most of the previous movie characters back “alive”. Even Barry has his chance to pop out, that’s quite a surprise.
Put all those away, this movie is basically a disaster, super weak story-line, a sequel for sequel. It would go non-stop. I have to admit, that I doesn’t find myself enjoying Alice anymore, I am actually wanted this movie to be ended, a real ending which I meant.
The ending, speechless, I dislike it a lot! EVERYTHING CAME BACK ALL OVER AGAIN!
Last advice, if you can’t get yourself stay at home, make sure to see it in 3D.
(6.7/10)* – A Fan Rating
(5.8/10)* – A Honest Rating
This entry in the series was most like a Resident Evil video game than any other, and it was like an RE game I’d love to spend hours playing. All the explanations for why the events took place made perfect sense in a video game way, even if not as much in a general story line kind of way. If you love the RE series, you’ll find yourself immersed in the visuals and action you’ve come to expect and love from the films. 9/10
Resident Evil: Retribution felt like you were immersed into a video game. I found myself at times moving side to side like I was the one controlling the action on my big screen at home. The action is off the hook, the 3D is epic and overall is a fun ride.
It still feels like Resident Evil but has a different tone to make it stand on its own. Even if you’re not a fan of the others because “they’re not like the games,” well guess what, this one has a video game feel to it.
Very Disappointing, The only thing that was good about this movie was the Milla Jovovich’s Performance, which isnt the best thing since slice bread but still decent. There are so many other things wrong with this movie like Plot holes, acting etc. When are we gonna see a Resident Evil Movie that has NO CHEESE, and has no bad acting. My god Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) has to be the worst actress in this film. And on top of all that the fights scenes looked way to fake. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Surprising, Fresh, Undead,Retribution.
when the movie started i didn’t notice much expect how great the 3D was! the first sequence started backwards (nice way to roll the title credits)then the movie got started the 3D IS the best 3D i’ve ever seen in any 3D film. i felt like the movie was playing too slow, i believe i was the only one in the theater noticing how hawt alice was blond. lol as the movie got back to the timeline following afterlife i was having a hard time following what’s up after wesker shut off the power i was afraid alice was just gonna be stuck underground for the entire film (turns out.. ha ha) anyways, i felt ada and leon was forced into the film but fuck it, it worked! better than a claire feature in extinction.. this movie really is unforgettable. prolly the best one, it changes the look of the entire franchise even the video games.. I don’t really want to say much for my review but i’m holding this film close to my heart.
Better than the last movie but still just bad. The 3D made it worth watching but once it hits dvd it will be another terrible installment to the franchise.
Yet another epic movie, well done!
I personally love all the Resident Evil movies (including the animated ones) but if you thought the last few Resident Evil movies where not that good. Than see this movie! Its the best Resident Evil movie since 1.
Some spoilers ahead!
Exactly one week ago I watched “Resident Evil: Retribution” at the cinema, reason enough to share my impressions. On the tenth anniversary we see some folks from the original film again, as well as from other parts. Lead actress is once more the ever-hot Miss Jovovich.
The flick sports very nice visuals throughout, bound to become desktop wallpapers on some geek’s PC. The special effects are appealing, either. Yet I stand under the impression that the 3-D-technique is not as good as in “Afterlife”. It often seems to me that on the screen several “flat” layers of images are arranged one behind the other with some virtual space between them — like cardboard cut-outs arranged in front of a background.
Which leads us to the scripting: Some scenes come up with “convenient” details or plot holes: Why is an Umbrella uniform deposited in a holding cell? Was it placed there for Alice’s escape in the first time? Why is there a column-like weapons rack in a control room? Not a plot hole, but more a mistake: Why are no puncture wounds visible on Jill Valentine’s chest once that mind controller is ripped off? Other scenes are too short and seem to be pushed into the script just BECAUSE, for example the fight against the two axe men or the girl’s kidnapping by the giant Licker.
Again we are pleased with a little bit of product placement by BMW, like in “RE: Extinction” or “Ultraviolet” — this time in form of a pimped Rolls-Royce Phantom IV (RR belongs to the BMW-Group).
The acting is standard, partly worse, courtesy of Li Bingbing (which is the Chinese word order) as Ada Wong. Milla Jovovich gives a descent performance, but the script isn’t on her or anyone else’s side: How come that her character screams under the noise-torture, but is able to endure all those awful dialogues without losing it?! (I watched the German version, but have scarce hope for the lines to be better in any other language.) The Estonian bloke, Johann Urb, is recognisable as Leon S. Kennedy, but has little to say — something that will hopefully change in the course of the next film. Speaking of which: This one finishes with a particularly brutal end fight and a by-the-book cliffhanger.
So, is it all bad? By no means. The film is mostly fun to watch (entirely, if one has certain penchants) and is stuffed with reminiscences and allusions.
In short:
+ Milla Jovovich
+ Milla Jovovich’s outfits
+ Fast-paced fights
+ Some visually awesome scenes
+ Characters (or at least their actors) from former parts (Michelle Rodriguez etc.)
+ Zombie-Japanese and semi-zombie-Russians (partly armed with chainsaws!)
+ High “WTF?!”-factor
- Story about a subterranean research site far better told in part one
- Even for a … of the games too little introductions of Ada and Leon
- Non-existing acting of Li Bingbing
- Quality of dialogues and one-liners unsteady
- A bit too many elements taken from other RE-parts and films in general (“Aliens” etc., though I don’t know whether some ideas originate from RE-Games I haven’t played yet)
One thing I know, though: I see you all for part 6!
7.5/10, including fanboy bonus
Just saw a minor mistake in my comment: It’s of course a Phantom VII, not a Phantom IV. Petrolheads will know the difference…
