*Updated with several clips!

From Frontier(s) director Xavier Gens comes the new post-apocalyptic thriller, The Divide (review), which blasts into theaters January 13 from Anchor Bay Films. A fresh clip has been shared that takes an axe to a dead body. Watch it below.

In this graphic and violent, post-apocalyptic thriller starring Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Rosanna Arquette, Courtney B. Vance and Lauren German, “nine strangers—all tenants of a New York high rise apartment—escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building’s bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, and they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness, each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape even with no promise of salvation on the outside.

In news we absolutely did not see coming, Deadline reports today that Nicolas Cage (Arcadian) and FKA Twigs (The Crow) will be leading the cast of The Carpenter’s Son, which is said to be “exploring the rarely told story of the childhood of Jesus with a horror take.”

Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub will also be starring in the upcoming film.

Deadline notes in their report this afternoon that the film from director Lofty Nathan (Harka) has “taken inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas for the screenplay. Dating back to the 2nd Century AD, the text recounts the childhood of Jesus.”

Here’s the official synopsis:

The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”

Nicolas Cage is playing the Carpenter, FKA Twigs the Mother, and Noah Jupe the Boy.

The project comes from producers Cinenovo and Spacemaker.
