You Won’t Believe This Horror Art Was Done In Under An Hour

Deviant Artist Thomas (or ThoRCX) is crazy good at speed paintings. If I was given 30-40 minutes to craft something in Photoshop, nothing I created would be anywhere near the quality of his work. I imagine it’d be made up of a lot of smiley faces, squiggly lines, and maybe a poorly drawn unicorn, depending on my mood. If you don’t think unicorns are scary, than you obviously haven’t met one. They’re terrifying.

Unfortunately, there are no unicorns in Thomas’s work. The only horned beast he has is a freaky devil looking thing. Check out his work after the jump!

6 MORE Games And The Studios That Should Make Them!

A couple months back I listed a few horror games and the studios I’d like to see make them. A Silent Hill by DmC developer Ninja Theory? Yes, please. Resident Evil made by the studio behind Uncharted and The Last of Us? Don’t tell me that doesn’t get your nether regions aflutter with the possibilities.

Well, now I have even more horror games and the developers I’d like to see pick them up. Check out my picks after the break, and feel free to agree/disagree/offer your own pairings in the comments.

Youtuber Freddie Wong Combines ‘Metal Gear Rising’ With ‘American Psycho’

As we learned in American Psycho, serial killer Patrick Bateman had a rigorous morning routine. Me? I just slap some water on my naughty bits, find the least odorous clothes out of some dark corner of my apartment, and I’m ready to go. It looks like Raiden from the Metal Gear series, and most recently Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, has a similarly detailed routine. Youtuber Freddie Wong does an amazing job of recreating that unforgettable scene with Metal Gear Sunrising, which you can watch after the break.

Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It, Is To Watch This Live-Action ‘DayZ’ Web Series

The folks at DDay Hollywood have decided to take DayZ into the real world with a new web series called “Apocalypse DayZ.” It’s a parody of the game that features a few familiar Youtube faces like Tay Zonday (Chocolate Rain!) and Lauren Francesca. If you’re itching for some DayZ action as we all patiently wait for Dean Hall and friends to release the standalone game, then this might tide you over until then. Might.

‘Dead Space 3′ Sells Well, Tops February NPD Charts

Despite a cooler than expected reception from fans and critics, Dead Space 3 still looks to be selling well. In February, the game topped the NPD charts, selling 605k units and beating Black Ops II for the top spot. Its inclusion of optional drop-in/drop-out co-op undoubtedly helped the game sell better, and while not everyone is a fan, we sure enjoyed it. Head past the jump for a list of the best-selling games of February.

Zombie Studios’ Horror Project ‘Daylight’ Will Be Playable At PAX East

Last month Zombie Studios, the developer behind the Saw games, announced their next project, a survival horror game called Daylight. It uses the Unreal Engine 4 to create a procedurally generated environment, so each time you play is a unique experience. Yesterday, the studio confirmed their horror game will be playable at PAX East later this month (March 22-24) alongside Red Barrels’ Outlast. If you’re in the Boston area, you now have (at least) two reasons to visit the event. Anyone planning on attending this year? Also, I’m totally not asking you just so I can abduct you, steal your tickets and identity, and go in your stead.

Go Behind The Scenes With ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’

The bar for games based on The Walking Dead has been set pretty high, and Survival Instinct’s tumultuous marketing campaign hasn’t impressed TJ or I in our premature evaluation of the game. That doesn’t mean it won’t be good, there’s still every chance it could surprise us all and end up being a fantastic game. One thing’s for certain — we’ll be finding out very soon. Head past the break for a behind the scenes look at The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

New ‘Dead State’ Video Highlights Turn-Based Combat

I’ve never bee a huge fan of games with turn-based combat, so when I first heard about its implementation in the crowdfunded zombie RPG Dead State, I’ll admit I was a little worried. After seeing it in action however, it looks intriguing. This will definitely make the fights more intense, since it forces you to get up close and personal where one mistake can get you killed. I’m all for that. Feel free to watch the 10-minute demo with DoubleBear’s Brian Mitsoda and decide for yourself.

[BD Caption Contest] Win ‘Dead Space 3: Awakened’ On Xbox 360!

SNOWFIGHT! Ouch, that had to hurt. Poor Carver. He’s just trying to make sure everyone makes it off Tau Volantis alive and that lizard faced woman keeps throwing snowballs at him.

So I have three download codes for the recently released Dead Space 3: Awakened epilogue DLC (REVIEW) that I’d like to give away to all of you. They’re for the Xbox 360 (no PS3 or PC codes, sorry) and it’s not standalone DLC, so you do need to own DS3 to be able to play it. If you’re still interested, might I suggest clicking that Read More link for more details? I warmed it up just for you.

Dust Off Your Dildo Bats, ‘Saints Row IV’ Is Coming In August

If I had to choose between going bowling with my cousin in Grand Theft Auto or gimp-drawn carriage chases in Saints Row, I’m going to go with the latter. The third game redefined ‘over-the-top’, and if the plot of Saints Row IV is any indication, that trend is only going to continue with the fourth entry. Basically, you become the new president of the United States right before an alien invasion that sends you to a virtual version of Steelport –the city the third game took place in — where you’re tasked with beating down the alien scum and saving the world. Feast your eyes on the pure, undiluted crazy that is the game’s announcement trailer, after the jump.

Capcom And Valve Reveal ‘Resident Evil 6′ x ‘Left 4 Dead 2′ Crossover

That Resident Evil 6 and Left 4 Dead 2 crossover Valve hinted at last week has been confirmed, and it’s more exciting than I would have anticipated. If you’re still deciding on whether or not you’ll grab Resident Evil 6 when it comes to PC on March 22, Capcom is sweetening the deal a bit with more exclusive PC content in the form of L4D2 characters and enemies in its Mercenaries mode. Between Chris Redfield and the Tanks, it’ll be a muscle extravaganza!

That’s not all. This crossover goes both ways, and that means the enemies of RE6 will be coming to the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2. No word yet on when that’ll happen, but all this is totally free. Head past the break for a message from Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and more screens than you can shake a stun rod at.

‘Dead Space 3: Awakened’ Review: Is It Real Or Is It Marker-ex?

Written by Brittany Vincent, @MolotovCupcake

In many ways, Dead Space 3 was inferior to its predecessors, but it still valiantly forged ahead as one of what will ultimately be the year’s best third-person action games. While it eschewed classic survival horror convention for in-your-face (albeit usually generic) action, it did have its moments, namely, any time Isaac Clarke or his partner suffered from hallucinatory visions. Dead Space 3: Awakened is the first round of DLC released to further expand upon the schizophrenic shooter, and while it’s short on content, it packs an interesting wallop as an additional epilogue and surrogate survival horror section. And if you’re anything like me, that’s a good thing.

Don’t Let This New Teaser For ‘The Legend’ Get In Your Head

The Legend is another indie horror game that aims to take the traits of the infamous Slenderman and apply them to a brand new creature — sort of like what Huntsman is doing. What this new “legend” is or what it looks like are still unknown, but I prefer my monsters shrouded in mystery, so I’m all for not revealing him/her/it. Developer Elder Productions has been releasing some freaky teasers lately (you can find the rest on the dev’s Youtube page), but this new entry is a little lighter than the rest, albeit still unnerving.

Indie Survival Horror Gem ‘Lone Survivor’ Is Coming To The PS3 And PS Vita This Summer

Jasper Byrne’s Lone Survivor is, in my opinion, one of the best survival horror games out there. It’s delightfully twisted love letter to the genre that looks like a 16-bit Silent Hill. It’s also crazy cheap — you can get it on Steam right now for just $9.99 — or you can wait for its release on the PS3 and PS Vita in July. That’s not all.

Berne had more to say about the game in a recent blog post, “I’ve secretly been devoting a lot of time and resources into adding additional content into the game, initially exclusive to PS3 and PS Vita,” The PS version will come with Trophies, Cross-Buy and Cross-Play support (buy it on the PS3 and you can play it on the Vita, or vice versa), as well as a bunch of new items, dialogue, side quests and even a special “yellow” ending. Watch a brand new trailer after the jump.

‘Gears Of War: Judgment’ Multiplayer Lets You Unleash Your Epic Reaper

In case you needed a reason to dig into Gears of War: Judgment’s multiplayer offering, Epic is providing some pretty great motivation. Every week they’ll choose a member of the Gears community to wear an awesome multiplayer skin called the Epic Reaper. As if its freaky appearance wasn’t enough, the Epic Reaper comes with special cog tags and a unique set of “special abilities and physics” that will make it “not very easy to kill,” Epic wrote in a blog post.

If you kill a Reaper, you’ll unlock a medal and weapon skin. I’m awful at Gears multiplayer, but I’d love to see one of these guys in action. Gears of War: Judgment launches on March 19 for the Xbox 360.

Did ‘Watchmen’ Help Sink ‘BioShock’ Feature?!

If there were one adaptation I wanted more than anything, it was to see the video game “BioShock” turned into a feature film. The story arc and incredible designs primed it for the big screen treatment. Unfortunately, a ballooning budget, among other factors, caused the dream to sink.

EuroGamer caught up with Irrational’s Ken Levine at BAFTA, where he was on hand to promote “BioShock Infinite”. There, he spoke on the dead movie that once had Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ring‘s Gore Verbinski attached to direct.

The shocker? He personally killed the project!

There was a deal in place, and it was in production at Universal – Gore Verbinski was directing it,” said Levine. “My theory is that Gore wanted to make a hard R film – which is like a 17/18 plus, where you can have blood and naked girls. Well, I don’t think he wanted naked girls. But he wanted a lot of blood.” He continues, “Then Watchmen came out, and it didn’t do well for whatever reason. The studio then got cold feet about making an R rated $200 million film, and they said what if it was a $80 million film – and Gore didn’t want to make a $80 million film.

This caused Universal to bring in a new director, which made Levine uncomfortable: “So they said if you want to kill it, kill it. And I killed it.

I personally would rather see the movie done with the blessing of Levine, thus I’ll give him a standing ovation for standing his ground. Still, I hope they eventually figure out a way to make it, and make it well..

Survival Horror Game ‘Outlast’ Will Be Playable At PAX East Later This Month

Outlast, the debut game from indie developer Red Barrels will be playable to the public for the first time at PAX East later this month (March 22-24). “We got a huge amount of fantastic, positive feedback when we unveiled Outlast a few months back, so we knew we wanted to provide gamers with a chance to play it as soon as possible,” said Red Barrels co-founder David Chateauneuf in a press release. The game looks terrifying to me, but don’t take my word for it — check out the trailer after the break.
