‘Dead Island: Riptide’ Pre-order DLC Includes A BBQ Blade, Costumes, No Bloody Torso

Publisher Deep Silver has revealed the bonus DLC that comes with pre-ordering Dead Island: Riptide, and if you’re expecting anything as crazy as that bloody female torso folks in the UK are getting with the Zombie Bait Edition, prepare for some mild disappointment. The Fashion Victim DLC, which includes costumes for the game’s five playable characters, will be available at UK retailer GAME. Everyone else gets the Survivor Pack that includes a BBQ Blade — a knife with a superheated blade — a stat booster and a discounted shop.

Dead Island: Riptide releases on April 23 in North America and April 26 in Europe for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. If you opt out of pre-ordering it you can still get the Survivor Pack for $5, or 400 MSP, and the Fashion Victim pack for $2 (160 MSP).

I recently had the opportunity to chat with one of my all-time favorite video game composers, the truly one-of-a-kind Jason Graves. He’s the man behind the amazing Dead Space soundtracks, and his latest project is the Tomb Raider reboot, due March 5th. After the break Graves talks about designing a brand new instrument for the soundtrack, the benefits of scoring a reboot, and more.

Start Stocking Clean Water And Ammunition, ‘Metro: Last Light’ Arrives In May

Artyom was set to resume his post-apocalyptic journey this month, but that was before Metro: Last Light was delayed and its publisher THQ went under. It didn’t go without a home for very long, as it was purchased by Dead Island publisher Deep Silver last month for a cool $5.8MM. Now, Artyom will be returning on May 14th in the States and everywhere else on May 17th. The additional development time will go toward giving it some extra polish and optimization.

Telltale Is Taking Steps To Make Season Two Of ‘The Walking Dead’ Less Buggy

Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: The Game is a fantastic example of storytelling done right in a video game, but the experience was soured for many because of the numerous polish issues that plagued it, including a particularly nasty save bug that completely erased your progress. For a story that adapts and changes depending on the decisions you make over the course of the five episodes, this was obviously a series problem. In a recent interview Telltale boss Dan Connors told Rock Paper Shotgun they’re working on getting systems in place to remedy the problem. See what he had to say after the jump.

Isaac Clarke Joins The Cast Of ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’

Everyone’s favorite engineer-turned-Necromorph slaying badass is taking a break from strategically dismembering monsters to make an appearance in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — ya know, that Sony version of Super Smash Bros. I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but this certainly piques my interest a bit. See him curb-stomp that chick from Heavenly Sword after the jump.

Grab Some Popcorn And Turn Off The Lights, ‘The Slender Man’ Movie Is Here!

The Super Movie Bros. produced indie horror film The Slender Man has been made available online, because as its creator says, “The Slender Man belongs to the internet.” Slenderman started in a forum thread back in 2009 before going on to inspire several terrifying web series like Marble Hornets, to video games like Mark Hadley’s Slenderman: The Eight Pages, to films. He’s seen a bit of a renaissance in video games lately with numerous indie developers jumping on the success of Hadley’s indie horror hit. From the looks of it, this dapper creature may see a similar surge in popularity in films as well — just don’t confuse this with the other Slenderman movie that’s releasing this summer. I have the full movie waiting for you after the jump, just make sure your doors are locked before you press play.

Microsoft Might Reveal The Next Xbox On April 26

Not content to give Sony all the headlines, Microsoft may be prepping a reveal of the next Xbox on April 26th. CVG associate editor Rob Crossley recently tweeted “The next Xbox event is scheduled for April 26th, I’ve been told by someone I trust. Microsoft may change date, obvs, but diarise tentatively.” Like all rumors, this should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, but it corroborates with recent rumblings that Microsoft has been working on an official unveiling of their new console soon.

I think there’s a very good chance we’ll actually see the console when Microsoft announces it, otherwise Xbox Live’s Major Nelson’s recent potshot at Sony’s decision not to reveal their console probably would come off as a little hypocritical.

In The Future, All EA Games Will Have Microtransactions

In Dead Space 3 you had the option of using real money to purchase additional resources for crafting items. It’s entirely optional, and opting out of throwing more money at the game you just spent $40-60 on doesn’t really affect the experience. Apparently, it’s only one of the first of many future EA games that will come with microtransactions. At the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom conference — which sounds absolutely riveting by the way, I’m really sad I missed it — Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen said “We’re building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be, and consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business.”

The microtransactions in Dead Space 3 angered a few fans, but until it becomes an issue of pay-to-win, I don’t mind EA trying to make a little extra money off the games they make. Video game development is expensive, so if tossing down a few dollars-turned-Microsoft Space Bucks means they’ll churning out Dead Space games, I’m all for it. What about you – do microtransactions bother you, or are you okay with it?

Isaac Clarke Drops Some Mad Lines In This Epic ‘Dead Space 3′ Rap

The only thing Isaac Clarke engineers in this video are some mad lines, yo.

When he’s not constructing brutal weapons that he can use to strategically dismember the unsuspecting denizens of Tau Volantis, Isaac can usually be found practicing his rap skills. He’s got mad skills too, and there’s no denying he’s had a tough life after surviving multiple Necromorph encounters only to see his girl Ellie leave him for a total dick, plus there was that whole needle to the eye bit in Dead Space 2. I’m sure he uses all that strife as fuel for his rap career. I’m sure that’s real healthy.

The J’avo From ‘Resident Evil 6′ Has A Face Only A Mother Could Love

Some of the enemies in Resident Evil 6 may have bordered on comical — I’m looking at you, man with the giant chicken legs — but there were a few that were genuinely freaky. The basic enemy you come across in RE6 is the J’avo, a mutated, mostly-human creature that has freaky spider eyes and a fondness for sprouting fucking chicken legs. They’re ugly and I was always happy to put them down. Cosplayer Toten2 has taken the J’avo’s… unique face and brought it into the real world. The results are a little gross. Check him out after the jump!

Slenderman Inspired ‘Huntsman: The Orphanage’ Among Newest Batch Of Greenlit Games On Steam

It’s no secret that I’m super pumped for Shadow Shifters’ upcoming Slenderman inspired indie horror game Huntsman: The Orphanage. It’s creepy, atmospheric, and brings with it a unique twist on the Slenderman subgenre that doesn’t revolve around collecting pages. It also has a mesmerizing Scottish caretaker that I’d very much like to have read me bedtime stories every night until the Huntsman comes and takes me away.

Earlier today Valve announced the fifth batch of titles that have been greenlit on Steam, including Huntsman: The Orphanage, Organ Trail: Director’s Cut, and several others you can find after the break. The team behind Huntsman are currently working on getting a playable demo that should be out soon.

This ‘Resident Evil’ Mod For ‘Minecraft’ Will Blow You Away

We’ve covered Resident Evil creations in Minecraft before, but I’ve never seen something quite like this. It’s a quality mod that adds two new ores (ruby and steel), herbs, weapons, RPD armor, weapons, enemies, and more from the Resident Evil universe. I’m especially fond of Wesker’s armor, because that man knows how to dress. Or he did (RIP, man). I would’ve liked to see arguably the most iconic item from the RE games make its way into the mod — the ink ribbons and/or typewriter — but everything else is so well done that complaining about something like that would be nitpicky. Check out the mod after the jump!

Telltale Writer Teases Something Related To ‘The Walking Dead’ Coming Before Season Two

Hey, you. Did you hear about that game based on The Walking Dead? Of course you’ve heard about the game. I’m pretty sure every other post I wrote last year was about how amazing it was. Obviously, Telltale Games is hard at work on season two, but according to Telltale writer Gary Whitta’s tease in a recent interview on IGN’s Up at Noon, we won’t have to wait for the second season to roll out for more TWD.

Nexon Invests In ‘Human Element’ Developer Robotoki

The cross-genre, multi-platform game being mentioned is Human Element, an ambitious post-apocalyptic zombie ARG that takes the increasingly popular episodic approach Telltale Games used with The Walking Dead: The Game last year. The episodic prequel will release exclusively on the upcoming Ouya console, due this spring, with the actual game releasing in 2015.

This Freaky Art Is Like Getting A Human Anatomy Lesson From Clive Barker

For the most part, I just sort of glided through my high school career on a current of B’s. There were two classes that caused me quite a bit of trouble though, and they were math (ick) and biology. One day, while I’m daydreaming in the latter, the teacher tells us we’re going to be dissecting fetal pigs. Having been an avid horror movie fan since the ripe age of six, I figured a dead pig wouldn’t be a problem. “What’s that organ?” the teacher would ask me. “Why, that’s very obviously the spleen, as I saw it dug out of that screaming camper in Friday the 13th.” Then the class would cheer my name and I’d be popular forever. Of course, that’s not how it went down. Between the smell that erupted out of that foul creature after it was opened up and my alarming inability to tell one organ from the other, I failed.

What I’m trying to say is if you’re anything like me, then you probably need to brush up on your anatomy skills. Thankfully, artist CheeseLoueez has people like us in mind with his trippy art that covers organs, skeletal structure, and Isaac Clarke. Yeah, he’s there too.

If you’re not as familiar with Ms. Valentine as you’d like to be and you have around ten minutes to get to know her a little better, this is definitely worth watching. Even if you’re crazy familiar with her and the Resident Evil games, it’s still interesting to see her character change over the years, from STARS officer to the badass, skin-tight suit wearing superhero Jill we know and love/hate today.

This Is The Story Of ‘Huntsman: The Orphanage’ As Told By Grimhaven’s Troubled Caretaker

Jasper Croad is the caretaker at the Grimhaven Orphanage where twelve orphans mysteriously disappeared back in 1897. Understandably, this has had a pretty significant impact on the man’s psyche, as he holds himself responsible for the children’s disappearance. The orphans were taken by the Huntsman, a creature that shares some of the traits of the Slenderman in that he has a mean sense of style and enjoys taking things that don’t belong to him.

Huntsman: The Orphanage is one of the more promising takes on the budding Slenderman subgenre. One of the things I enjoy most about these games is they don’t rely on blood, gore, and violence to be scary. Don’t get me wrong, I love those things too, but it’s nice to get a brief reprieve from all that. Listen to Croad’s story after the break!
