‘Get Out’ and ‘The Shape of Water’ Scare Up Golden Globes Nominations

Horror continues to get mainstream recognition during its standout year.

We recently reported that Jordan Peele’s Get Out was being *considered* for Golden Globes nominations, an exciting bit of news that made headlines due to the fact that it was up for contention in the “Comedy/Musical” category. A strange, ill-fitting genre for the film, to say the least, but all that really matters was that it was being considered.

Today we’re happy to report, now that the 2018 Golden Globes nominees have been officially announced, that Get Out indeed has been nominated for Best Comedy/Musical! Star Daniel Kaluuya was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture: Comedy or Musical.

Additionally, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water landed a nomination for Best Motion Picture: Drama, while also receiving a handful of other nominations…

  • Best Director – Guillermo del Toro
  • Best Performance by an Actress – Sally Hawkins
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role – Octavia Spencer
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role – Richard Jenkins
  • Best Screenplay – Guillermo del Toro & Vanessa Taylor
  • Best Original Score – Alexandre Desplat

Also of note, “Stranger Things” was nominated for Best Television Series: Drama, while star David Harbour was nominated for Best Supporting Role in a TV Series.

Finally, Kyle MacLachlan has received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for TV, for his work on “Twin Peaks”!

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
