Breaking: Edward Furlong is BACK as John Connor in ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’! #SDCC

Huge breaking news out of the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con where James Cameron revealed that Edward Furlong will be returning as John Connor in Paramount’s forthcoming Terminator: Dark Fate, which he produced and Deadpool‘s Tim Miller directs.

This is such incredibly massive news considering the long-hyped return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, not to mention the fact that Dark Fate takes place after the events in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, retconning all other sequels. How could the filmmakers continue the Connor story without the leader of the resistance?!

Up until this point we had expected to see a CGI stand-in as a young John Connor. As I previously reported last June, photos that leaked from the set revealed the possible return of a young John Connor, if only by a casting double.

The photo making the rounds showed young actor, Jude Collie, who is alleged to be playing a young John Connor in the Tim Miller-directed Terminator. When the photo was shared on socials, it declared the actor as a CGI stand-in, which means it’s quite possible that we’ll also be seeing Edward Furlong‘s young face in the film.

“I think the best way to think about Terminator: Dark Fate is to think about it as a direct sequel to Terminator 2, the third film in a series, if you will,” producer James Cameron had previously explained before adding, “We’ll be continuing with Sarah’s story, John’s story, and the T-800 returns — a different T-800 with a very different role to play than what we’ve seen before.”

John Connor was a huge part of the first Terminator in that, from the future, he sent Kyle Reese back in time to save Sarah Connor, his mother, from a Terminator programmed to kill her and prevent his birth. Cameron introduced Furlong’s John Connor in Judgment Day, who would team with his mother to stop Skynet and the robot uprising for good. Apparently, something went wrong in this new future.

Terminator: Dark Fate opens November 1st.

While we wait for the serial killer thriller Longlegs, director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel) has already set up his NEXT movie. It’s titled Keeper.

Deadline reports tonight that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) will star in Keeper, and NEON has acquired the rights to the project.

Deadline notes, “Neon will distribute in the U.S. and handle international sales rights to the film in Cannes, with Elevation Pictures set to distribute in Canada.”

Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.”

Perkins will direct from a screenplay written by Nick Lepard.

First up, NEON will release Longlegs in theaters on July 12.
