New Line Begins Work On New ‘Elm Street’
It looks as if New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes have taken the next step in resurrecting the infamous boogeyman, Freddy Krueger, as they’ve officialy begun working on a script for their remake/prequel of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Read on to see who will be writing the film, which will mark the ninth time Freddy will grace the big screen.
New Line has taken a step forward in bringing Freddy back to the big screen.
The Warner Bros. division has hired veteran scribe Wesley Strick (Cape Fear, Doom) to pen the relaunch of the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” series, the franchise that helped establish New Line into a movie player in the mid-1980s.
The original “Nightmare” was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. It created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund, and its runaway success spawned a slew of sequels.

‘Drop’ – Violett Beane Joins the Cast of Christopher Landon’s New Thriller
Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
