‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ Lands on Digital This Week

Amelia Eve stars in 'Insidious: Out of the Further'

Earlier this summer, the Insidious franchise kicked off a new chapter with Insidious: Out of the Further, a sequel that largely pivoted away from the Lambert family and the events of the previous movies. Even though it left behind familiar figures, it resonated with audiences, as it went on to score $168 million at the box office. While its reviews were somewhat mixed, its 57% positive reviews on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes makes it the second-best-reviewed installment in the series.

Whether you already caught the movies in theaters and want to revisit it or you weren’t able to catch it on the big screen, Insidious: Out of the Further hits Digital on October 6. You’ll have to wait a bit longer for the movie’s physical release, as it won’t be landing on Blu-ray and DVD until December 1.

In Insidious: Out of the Further, Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in, who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe. When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything; she doesn’t just enter The Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realize her power, our world becomes their playground.

Special features on the upcoming release include the following:

  • Deleted Scene & Extended Scenes
  • The Cult & The Further
  • Director’s Commentary

In addition to the movie leaving the Lambert family behind, it also marked another significant change by bringing the nefarious entities from The Further into the real world, which opens the door for a number of new storytelling avenues to explore in future installments. At this time, there has yet to be an official sequel ordered, though the financial success of this latest installment and the series’ overall longevity makes it feel like a given.

One expansion that was confirmed, however, was Thread: An Insidious Tale. Announced in 2023, the spin-off was set to star Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani and was set to be directed by Moon Knight and The Exorcist‘s Jeremy Slater. In the years since it was announced, there has been no significant momentum on the project, so it’s unclear if it’s still in the works or if it will be reimagined into a different project.

Insidious: Out of the Further hits Digital on October 6 and Blu-ray and DVD on December 1.
