[BD Review] We’ve Seen Cabal Cut Of Clive Barker’s ‘Nightbreed’! Update On Blu-ray Progress!

Update: It looks like the screening has had some impact and that we MIGHT be getting a Blu-ray after all. Clive Barker reported on Twitter that Morgan Creek is giving permission “to show the cut around the world and to raise money to prepare the cut for a release on Blu-ray… This could not, would not, have happened without your voices. We have all been heard. The Morgan Creek team have my thanks and my respect. Very seldom does anyone in the movie business pay attention as they have, understanding perhaps that the message of the movie as I shot it is one that dramatizes a different ending to the age-old story of how a war between Humankind and something Other draws to a close.

Sunday night the New Beverly Theater in California played host to the infamous “Cabal Cut” of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed. Bloody Disgusting’s BC was on hand and shares his thoughts on the new cut of the 1990 classic set in the Canadian wilderness, where a search is on for a serial killer and an ancient tribe of monsters called the night-breed.

It’d be easy to say “Morgan Creek destroyed a perfect film!” but the reality is that they just exacerbated some of its issues while adding others,” says BC. “ I’d love to have a definitive, cleaned up version of the movie to watch on Blu-ray, and with so few horror films that even attempt to be “epic”, I think it deserves the lavish treatment on ambition alone.

Wow man I’d really love to see this. Here’s hoping for a Bluray release of this cut. One can dream, right?

Despite its obvious flaws I found a lot to like in the original (chopped) version, which makes me very keen to see it as it was meant to be.

I really hope the cabal cut gets the Blu Ray treatment. I’d prefer it to come with the original intact as well so you can experience both versions of the film without having to buy two.

I really love all of Clive’s films that he directed. Flawed yes but still visionary and unlike anything else at the time. I’m tired of getting teased by possible blu ray releases. Just effin do it already. It will make its money back from true horror fans.

  • I was never fond of Night Breed. The book was awesome, movie….lacking. It’d be willing to check this out though.
