‘The Dark Tower’ Now Has a Killer Ending

The Dark Tower

Those of you who gave up on The Dark Tower, the mega-franchise based on a story by Stephen King, it’s time to get your spirits up.

Producer Brian Grazer tells The Playlist that not only have they cut the budget by a whopping $45 million, but they’ve also come up with a killer ending. “We found a way to cut out $45 million out of the budget without changing the scope and actually giving it a good ending,” he explains. “In the $140 million draft, the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying. Now, we’ve got $45 million, $50 million out of the way and a really satisfying ending. It’s gonna get made.

It’s kind of funny that he openly admits the budget was too big and that the ending sucked. Why then would Universal want to make that movie? Glad they got their priorities straight. Ron Howard was to direct the franchise that would arrive in the form of a trilogy with a TV series mixed in between.

The books chronicle the mysterious The Gunslinger (that was to be played by Javier Bardem) as he travels across a desolate and vaguely post-apocalyptic landscape in his quest for a black tower. Portals along the way eventually allow contact with our own modern world.
