The System Shock franchise, which comprises two of my all-time favorite horror games, is coming soon to Steam and GOG.com. The report first broke from Flesh Eating Zipper, the only news site — that I’m aware of — with a more disturbing name than ours. The studio that will be breathing new life into the franchise is Night Dive Studios, a developer/publisher that specializes “in finding classic, abandoned and forgotten PC games and bringing them back into the hands of gamers.” System Shock and its sequel are classics that have been long abandoned, though I wouldn’t go so far as to call them forgotten. I’ll never forget it. I love it far too much.
This hasn’t been made official yet, but Night Dive has been posting System Shock related posts on their Facebook and they mentioned FEZ’s article on their website, so I don’t think anyone would blame you if you started replenishing your energy drink and pizza roll reserves in preparation for this momentous event.
Obviously, there isn’t any word on when they’ll be available or for how much — that news will likely drop with the official confirmation — but I don’t care. I’m just happy to see someone showing some support for one of gaming’s best horror franchises.
