Exclusive: Huge ‘Evil Dead’ Deleted Scene Spoiler!!!

Update: A denial has been made by one of the filmmakers. Head inside for that was well.

There’s only a few more weeks to go until you can see Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead, the remake to Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic that spawned a pair of sequels. The new film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore and Jessica Lucas… but there’s one addition everyone’s been wondering about, so in honor of Evil Dead Month here we go….

I’m giving you fair warning – this is most definitely a MAJOR SPOILER. In fact I’m going to make it sort of difficult to get to the actual content of this piece because I know how much it sucks to accidentally be spoiled on something. Still, you may want to revisit this story after you’ve seen the film. Bookmark it now.

As a buffer, here’s the synopsis again, “In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

FilmDistrict and TriStar will unleash Hell on April 5. Head inside for the SPOILER account of the deleted scene that may or may not be on the film’s home video release!

Nope! Not yet! What if someone was just clicking on a forwarded link? They’d already be spoiled without even having a chance to decide if they wanted to hit the “more” button or not. Therefore the SPOILER is below this pic… scroll down if you’re so inclined.

Update: Bruce Campbell has issued the following comment via Twitter.

I’d like to point out that while we can’t confirm this source’s info because of this denial, there was a post credits scene in an early draft of the script that played out with a character who may or may not have been intended to be Ash. The earlier story appears intact below…

BD reader Scorpionsy writes in regarding the deleted scene – info he got from a trusted source close to the production. I can confirm that, in the draft of the script I read, there is a scene that is similar to this – but NOT EXACTLY like it. Still, this all falls in line with stuff I’ve heard.

I was told that there was a scene for post-credits where they shot Bruce Campbell in the Ash role but of course he is older (trying to integrate him into this remake’s timeline for future possible cross over),” the reader explained to us. “The surviving member of the group is walking down a road (all covered in blood from the final scene in the movie) and suddenly a truck (with the word “S-Mart” printed on the side of the truck’s container unit) drives up the road and stops by the survivor. Then the window roles down and we see none other than Ash (Ashley Williams…Bruce Campbell)…the hero and survivor from the original Evil Dead trilogy. He asks the survivor if everyting is OK and if any help was needed. Then the Survivor looks at Ash and turns again into a Deadite (gets possessed again)….then we see Ash with the camera zoomed in a close-up on his face as he says: “Groovy!” (one of his famous catchphrases from Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness…you fans know what I am talking about) and we fade to black… I was so excited and shocked when I heard this little golden nugget by the insider. Then the person goes on to tell me that they shot the whole scene but when Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell watched it they decided it was out of place (for now).

This makes sense to me. I get the feeling that the producers and studio were so happy with the way Evil Dead turned out that they began to bank on some sequels happening and decided to maybe push this down the road a bit.

By the way… this doesn’t mean that there are no surprises in the actual film. You should STILL STAY for the end credits. Fair warning…

Bruce Campbell says this scene was never shot and the “source” is a liar:

“@Spidermansweb: @GroovyBruce Any Truth To This ?…” Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. No. Nyet. 没有!

@MOVIELORD101: OMG! WHY THE HELL DID THEY CUT THIS?… The “source” is a liar. No scene w/me was shot. #whyIhaterumors

  • lucie-with-a-gun

ive read at least 5 after end credits scenes with ash says “groovy”.
i think i like the car one with his boots.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

It’s a deleted scene so I don’t understand his reasons for denying it. If it’s not in the finished film it shouldn’t matter. Perhaps he didn’t want the public to know that someone survives? That’s the only real spoiler (not really because someone usually survives).

…It’s pretty obvious that the “survivor” is Jane’s character (the poster of her bloody character is surely a still of the final scene in the movie in which she walks down the road)

  • TwistedCritic

I’d buy this if the scene/dialogue described didn’t seem so tonally out of place with what the rest of this movie is trying to achieve. Personally I think they will establish some connection in regards to the timeline of the original, but that doesn’t seem like the way to do it.

    • Beneviolence

Totally agree with you TwistedCritic. From what I can tell this remake looks pretty gruesome and has a tone that skews toward realism. I haven’t seen it, obviously, but I imagine the humor will be nowhere near a broad as Evil Dead 2. If it was filmed, I think Raimi and Campbell got one look at it and realized they’d rather make Evil Dead 4 instead of linking the remake with the originals.

  • djblack1313

if i remember correctly, in the early-ish draft of the script the survivor of the movie is picked up by a couple (a husband & wife i think) driving the same kind of truck that (in the original) nearly drove Ash and gang off the road in the beginning. they pick up survivor and head off to get survivor some help. (i won’t say more in case they kept some of this ending in the movie…spoilers!). i don’t recall the husband (which would have been a perfect NON-Ash cameo for Bruce!) saying “Groovy” or anything.

i’ve also heard there’s a SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER (maybe) post ending credits(?) scene where the camera POV is on the cabin (or what’s left of it) and the wind starts whipping up and Bruce/Ash drops out of the sky (being transported from wherever Ash was). END SPOILER. END SPOILER.

i don’t know if this is true or not.

also i’m surprised it hasn’t really been mentioned (or i may have missed it) that the David/chainsaw scene is NOT in the movie. apparently it will be a deleted scene on the DVD/BR or just be restored back in the movie for the disc release.

i wish that scene WAS in the movie!

  • brianhorrorfan

OK, I’ll jump in here and shed some light. there is no ash falling out of the sky, ash driving a truck, ash sweeping up leaves in front of the cabin, Bruce working on a car with his friends or whatever else you’ve read online ..all bullshit my fellow horror fans…there i cleared all of that up now.

I saw the screening with Q&A Sunday night in Philly so unless they change it or show a different version than what i saw the answer is NO.why people believe this stuff is beyond me, someone says i have a script and it says this “insert foolish comment”. i can tell you this,it is a GREAT movie!!! there is a after credit scene for sure but it is none of the things I’ve seen online yet and I’ve seen a shit load of them. and no there is no scene with David using the chainsaw in it either.

    • djblack1313

brianhorrorfan, THANK YOU!! lol. it’s been impossible to get a definite answer out of anyone! can you (or anyone) just tell me/us what the after credits scene is? i’d like to know if it’s a scene that would interest me enough to sit through ending credits to get to. again, i really appreciate you clearing things up for me/us! 🙂

  • Scorpionsy

Ok, first things first. I am just a messenger…so don’t shoot me! LOL! 🙂

Second, how many times has a studio/actor/producer denied something that may or may not be correct. How many times has Bruce denied rumors about ever making another Evil Dead years ago and up until this remake was announced? He would always say “do your really want an old Ash with a Walker? It’s just not going to happen”…and now suddenly he is OK with reprising Ash if they do proceed and shoot an Evil Dead 4/Army of Darkness 2. Also, studios/producers hate it when any type of news like this comes out of the left field as it might impact their movie/revenues/etc and might deny it for whatever true reason they have behind a denial.

I am just reporting what was told to me by someone who was deep in the production. I expected it to be denied anyway from the beginning…but only time will tell if this is true or false. Even if it was true, there might not be any evidence of it existing unless they decide to release it as an Easter-Egg on the Evil Dead remake Blu-ray/DVD because it is obvious they have decided they wanted to keep this new Evil Dead a separate entity from the original Trilogy with the ED 4 / AOD 2 announcement. So we may or may never get to see that scene.

I am not going to spoil anything else for you guys until after the movie is released, then you will get some nice juicy bits from me. I think it is only fair to those who did not see the movie yet and want to keep themselves guessing till they watch it. But more of the spoilers/Easter-eggs/deleted stuff will be coming your way soon after the release, so please be patient.

djblack1313…with regards to the David Chainsaw scene from the trailer, wait till you get a load of what juicy bit I have to say about that and other stuff soon enough. 😉

  • djblack1313

there is NO cameo by Bruce. It’s just the audio recording from Evil Dead followed by Bruce saying “Groovy”. just audio. no visual of Bruce/Ash.

    • Scorpionsy

djblack…I am not sure who confirmed that for you but SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER………………………………………………………………………………………………………….Are you sure about that?! 🙂

      • djblack1313

Scorpionsy, yeah, i trust the friend who told me about this scene. also the lullaby (Mia sings from the basement) isn’t in this nor is the “CUT IT!”.

        • Scorpionsy

Ok….but about the post credits…are you SURE your sure!!?? 😉

          • Scorpionsy

            I mean sure “your’re” sure. 🙂

          • Scorpionsy

            Dang it…my spelling sucks today…LOL! Third time’s a charm…I meant sure “you’re” sure. 🙂

    • ericonwheelz

Hmmm Really? Pretty sure this is him.

  • Hannibal Is at the Gates

How can you leave this shit up if it’s confirmed false?
