‘Hatchet III’ Has a Release Date, Teaser Trailer!

MPI/Dark Sky Films announced today that Hatchet III will be released on June 14, and has also shared with us the film’s first teaser trailer! Hatchet III is set to open in New York City’s Cinema Village and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall. Opening week will feature special appearances by cast and crew, followed by Q&A’s at each location. Additional cities will be announced at a later date.

The film marks the directorial debut of BJ McDonnell who previously has handled A and B camera operations on such features as Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Adam Green’s first two Hatchet films. Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder return in Hatchet III and are joined by Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) and others.

The film continues the tale of the now-iconic villain Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). As a search and recovery team heads into the haunted swamp to pick up the pieces and carnage left behind from the first two films, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades.

    Badass! Can’t wait!!

  • Petsnrocks

Its gonna be tough to up the ante with this once.
Hatchet 2 was a fucking gorefest.
    I loved it.

Finally! Been waiting on this forever. It’s too bad Adam Green isn’t directing this time around but i’m stoked!!

  • joe666

I hated the first two but I’ll give it a chance.

  • Remember-Slithis

This series might be better off without Green directing.I love the first two films but they are stupid guilty pleasures!Gore hounds eye candy! This looks like the tone is more serious. But it is a very short clip so it could be just as cheesy as the first 2!

Remember-Slithis, i agree WORD.FOR.WORD! i’m impressed by this admittedly short teaser. it definitely seems to have a more (and welcome) serious vibe to it. this already looks better than part 2!

the first hatchet was amzing!!! i love danielle harris, but i would love to see the original marybeth return. this one looks worth the watch !

    Hell. Yes.

I like the tone this is (seemingly) going for, not much footage so I could be wrong. It also looks a lot, well, cleaner for lack of a better word. Some of the shots in there were very pretty to look at, I know that’s not exactly what you want from a ‘Hatchet’ film but lets face it, ‘Hatchet II’ looked like shit. Actually, it was pretty much shit.
Danielle didn’t say very much in this teaser but what she did say sounded much better than part 2. Did she forget how to act in that movie? I mean, she’s no god but she can do so much better than that!

Aaron, i thought the same thing! the cinematography and framing of some shots look fantastic. like nothing i’ve seen in a HATCHET film before (i’m not bashing the cinematography on the first 2 entries even though HATCHET 2 was god awful! lol). i’m shocked that i’m actually looking forward to this movie…i think. i’ll know for sure after a full trailer is released.

I thought the first one was a lot of fun! The second (which I own on both Blu and DVD, I’m not sure what sleeping med made that purchase) was such a letdown. I looked forward to it and the ratings “controversy” hyped me up even more (I still have respect for Adam Green’s “fuck you” to the MPAA), then I saw it and felt idiotic for looking forward to such crap for so long. The cluster-fuck of poorly written/acted characters and cartoonish violence ruined what could have been a fun time.

        • djblack1313

Aaron, agreed. part 2 is mind-numbingly awful! lol.

  • ThunderDragoon

I loved the first two. This should be a good time as well.

The first 2 were watchable but nothing more. This looks a bit cheesy but interesting.

I don’t get how a horror fan, much less one that frequents this site, could hate the Hatchet series. It’s just good old fashioned backwoods slasher mayhem with a sense of humor. It’s a celebration of horror. I’ll gladly take any Hatchet film over bullshit like Lords of Salem (which we get 12 new articles for every day), or the joyless, dull, reiterative shlock that passes for horror most days (e.g. Smiley, Scar, Wolf Creek and its inevitably shitty sequel, anything found footage – especially the Paranormal Activity franchise, exorcism movies, every remake in the last decade and change BUT ESPECIALLY Halloween, Hellraiser Revelations, Creature, anything with Sid Haig, etc.).

Granted, Hatchet 2 was a step down in terms of polish and was overfull with pointless flashback sequences. But it was still more entertaining and enjoyable than the majority of modern horror flicks. And I’m glad to see that Hatchet 3 might be an improvement on the technical and aesthetic side.
