Microsoft Sheds More Light On Their Exciting IllumiRoom Project

IllumiRoom

Back in January, Microsoft revealed an exciting new project called IllumiRoom. It’s a silly name, but I’ll forgive that because of how insanely cool it looks. The idea is simple, IllumiRoom aims to extend what’s going on on-screen past the boundaries of the TV screen.

There are numerous uses for this, ranging from the game environment displayed on the wall surrounding the TV to simpler, and (in my opinion) more practical, uses like seeing items you can pick up displayed off-screen. See it in action after the break.

Have a question? Feel free to ever-so-gently toss Adam an email, or follow him on Twitter and Bloody Disgusting.

I’m a sucker for more the gimmicky applications, the way they have it interact with the room is amazing… I need to see the cartoon effect and wobble right now.

You know how I said they would need to wow me for me to purchase the new Xbox? They just did it. Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be immersed into a game like virtual reality. One step closer. Now Nintendo needs to come out with something similar so I can catch some Pokémon in the “real” world. XD

An amazing concept but I would be likely to wait for the next iteration as I am not an early adapter.
