‘Evil Dead’ To Bloody Up Blu-ray On July 16th!!

FilmDistrict and TriStar’s Evil Dead is headed to DVD and Blu-ray on July 16th. Hopefully the uncut version is on there as well, but we’ll have to see about that! It does have a lot of bonus features, so at least there’s that! Check out my review here.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

I hope they don’t pull a TC3D and make an unrated cut only available as a separate purchase on itunes.

  • TravelEER

I’m going to wait it out for the unrated edition. Didn’t this movie barely qualify for its R rating? Surely an unrated edition will be released in the near future as well.

  • djblack1313

i’m disappointed that there’s no unrated version as well. i’ll wait for it. i liked the movie but i didn’t love it. it didn’t help that they showed all the money shots in the trailers. also the movie wasn’t scary AT ALL. it was so intent on speeding through all the kills/deaths that it had such little time to breath and build any suspense/atmosphere.

also we know they filmed the David/chainsaw scene as well as the “we’re gonna get you” (and other shots that were ONLY used in the tv spots/trailers) and they couldn’t put deleted scenes on this? fuck that.

    • WalkWithMeInDarkness

I agree. And it also bothers me that once again the blu-ray gets exclusive shit. THAT FUCKING SUCKS! I have a ps3, but I don’t have an hd tv, so i can’t play new blu-ray films.

      • Golic

I pretty sure you can play a blu-ray on your PS3 with an older tv, it just won’t look as good.

      • ThatMovieNerd

You can play the blu-ray still, just like Golic said, it just won’t look as good. I borrowed my brothers PS3 to watch some blu-rays I got, before I could get my HDTV and blu-ray player at the time.

    • Zombie-Killa

“also the movie wasn’t scary AT ALL.”

I agree. BUT one part did get me a little bit. Remember when Mia’s brother opened the door to a room in the cabin, and Mia was sitting in the bed with her head down after the demonic force attacked her? Before her brother could get out a full sentence, Mia suddenly pops her head up out of nowhere with this terrified look on her face. THAT one scene got me as a jump scare. Probably because it’s the only part they DIDN’T show in the trailers. lol.

    • Kenzo

I agree. I loved the movie and I only jumped once. I’m so tired of blu-ray always containing the good stuff. I have a ps3 but I don’t care for blu-ray at all. I don’t really see a difference. I want an extended cut on normal dvd!

  • Kroork

It sucks big balls that we r NOT getting an unrated or extended cut. ( maybe in a year they might re release it but I doubt it)

We aren’t even getting any deleted scenes. Despite the fact fede said we would. I am pretty pissed. I don’t expect unrated or extended cuts, but when you tell me it’s gonna happen, and then it doesn’t…. Isn’t cool in my books.

  • Zombie-Killa

Call me old-fashioned, but I still buy DVDs as my primary source for 95% of movies, TV shows, etc. I have a FEW Blu-Rays, but I’m just too damn stubborn to make the switch for good! lol.

Anyway, I’ll pick it up on the 16th regardless. But the exclusive Blu-Ray feature MIGHT force me into buying the Blu-Ray. There has to be a combo pack coming, right? If it is, I just wish they would leave that digital Ultra Violet shit off it.

    • Incinerated

      You are old-fashioned. It’s cool.

That is weird for DVD buyers that the commentary track is a blu-ray exclusive. I don’t know if that’s the feature you meant. Maybe there wasn’t enough disc space cause this is one of those “Superbit” DVDs 😛

      • Zombie-Killa

Hahaha! Yeah, I was talking about the commentary. And you can put me in the “I have a PS3, but I’m too lazy or cheap to buy a Blu-Ray player camp” lol. The special features are SO tempting, but I have this GIGANTIC collection of DVDs, and I really don’t feel like selling off/trading everything to replenish, and let go. I know I need to move on some day! lol.

        • anthonyd1

Haha I also hate that stupid Ultra Violet shit. When I buy all my movies I try to do the blu ray/dvd combo pack. I think that’s definitely worth it but enough with that stupid Ultra Violet shit.

  • JArellano13

This movie was amazing almost as great as the original!Happy to know it will be out to own so fast!

  • djblack1313

the awesome WARM BODIES Blu-ray and DVD is packed FULL of extras/deleted scenes/featurettes/etc and EVIL DEAD couldn’t even match it? again, fuck that.

    • Aaron Emery

Right? I got the ‘Warm Bodies’ Blu today and it was definitely a great purchase! I’m disappointed with this half-assed release.

      • Zombie-Killa

Jealous of both of you! Damn now I’m reminded I need to pick up Warm Bodies too(LOVED that movie)! Must’ve came out recently, and I somehow missed it. Now I have to go to Best Buy or Fye tomorrow!

        • Aaron Emery

Comes out 6/4. I order through the video store I work for so they come in the shipment a week prior. Definitely worth picking up though.

  • Aaron Emery

It’s unbelievable that a film that pushed the boundaries of the R-rating can’t be bothered to release an uncut version on Blu-ray/DVD. It’s actually kind of insulting.

  • ThunderDragoon

Apparently, I’m one of the few people who buy a movie for the MOVIE not for the extras. I loved the hell out of this movie so I’m definitely going to be buying this. It delivered all it promised to and more. Fantastic film.

    • djblack1313

ThunderDragoon, WARM BODIES i will buy. i loved that movie so much. EVIL DEAD i didn’t love. i liked it but not loved it therefore i can wait for the unrated version Fede promised. you know the unrated release will be forthcoming. i don’t feel like buying the movie 4 times (w/ all re-re-releases).

and you’re telling us that if/when they release the movie again and it has all the deleted scenes (Mia walking down the paved road as seen in the pics, David’s chainsaw scene where he saws up Natalie, etc, etc, etc) that you wouldn’t care about having/seeing them?

      • ThunderDragoon

No, what I’m saying is I don’t care what extras are tacked on. If I love a movie, I’m going to buy it whether they have extras I want or not. If I have to buy it again to see extras I want to see, I will because I want to support a movie that I loved.

  • Julian Nunez

This is so disappointing. How the hell does a movie that made a big deal about it’s gore not get an unrated release? I liked the movie but i can wait for a unrated release.

  • Fritte

Horrible artwork! And I can’t remember the last time I was so disappointed in a movie..
Bloody? Yes. Good? Nooo. Far from it.
Best part of the movie: The beginning, the character Mia and the finale. Nothing more.

  • Scares393

No deleted/alternate scenes?! there clearly some shots in the trailer that wasn’t in the movie, plus I read about the alternate ending of the movie, so yea there definately should be a extended or unrated version of this movie on blu ray, there better be.
