‘Curse of Chucky’ Trailer Has Just Premiered!!!

Universal Home Entertainment literally just announced that Don Mancini’s Curse of Chucky, the sixth Child’s Play film following the 2004 Seed of Chucky, will be arriving on various VOD platforms September 24 with a Blu-ray/DVD date slated for October 8 (there will also be a Blu-ray box set called “Chucky: The Complete Collection”).

Now, you can now watch the first official trailer that gives us a solid look at the brand new Good Guys doll, which is possessed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray (played and voiced by Brad Dourif). Thanks to Bloody reader ‘Fabien M.’ for tipping us to Mashable.

Also, I guess the box art let the cat out of the bag – I’ve seen the movie. While my review is forthcoming, I am allowed to reveal that I quite adored it. I promise that hardcore Child’s Play fans will gush over Curse of Chucky, and it’s also a great introduction to the character for younger audience. I seriously can’t wait to get my hands on the Blu-ray box set – I may explode before October comes.

In the sequel directed by creator Don Mancini, “Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.

What do you guys think? TALK BELOW!

  • Kainrich

Chucky looks like he’s undergone some plastic surgery, MJ style. I don’t mind, this looks really sweet. I wonder how they’ll continue the story from the 3rd movie, assuming that theyre skipping over the last two. Hopefully they give some sort of explanation as to how the Chuckster returns from being all torn up

  • MartyrX

i can’t wait!! so many people are already bitchin about it, people just gotta find shit to complain about, but i love it and love chucky’s look!

    • trustkill666

      no doubt

  • Zombie-Killa

I don’t mind the makeover. Just glad Brad Dourif is back voicing Chucky.

I didn’t like the last two Chucky films, but fuck it. I’ve been DYING to see another Chucky film since then. No franchise is perfect anyways. Can’t wait to get my hands on this, when it hits DVD!!!!!!!!!

  • EddyDisgusting.

I’m a little bit disapointed with chucky’s face when he’s alive, looks like he had too much botox… And it seems that there’s some FX animation, which is bad. But the doll itself looks awesome, and the movie looks cool anyway, still very exited for this !

  • thalazy

I liked all of them and this one I hope I will like as well.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

So Brad Miska A.K.A. Mr. Disgusting saw the movie? At least I assume he did since the cover art of the blu-ray quotes him as saying “Chucky’s back and better than ever”. Did I miss a review of the film somewhere?

  • WalkWithMeInDarkness

Chucky’s back! Can’t wait to see this. Sure, the doll’s face looks a little weird in some shots, but I don’t care. The movie looks cool.

  • DarrelDreadful

Yep, Im excited for this. Looks like a nice throwback and the only thing I would have been disappointed with is if Brad Dourif didn’t return. The new look isnt that bad at all, I actually expected much worse. And it seems like we’re finally gonna get a decent number of horror films in the month of October lol

  • Remember-Slithis

Sometimes a different look is good. This seems more serious in tone like the original. Also as long as Dourif is doing the voice it will at least be watchable.I’m in!

    • Evan3

The original was serious in tone? Yes, more serious than the recent batch of Chucky films, but it was still very comedic (as it should be… its a killer My Buddy doll for goodness sake).

  • magicjaguar

Straight-to-video is a bit disheartening, but this looks like a hell of a Good (Guy) time.

  • LloydBanksPLK

this looks soo sweet!! CGI… so fucking what.. the makeover looks good. and yes of course brads back to voice him.. cant wait for this and to finally have the actual blu ray set.. chucky fan my whole life!!!!!

  • djblack1313

Brad, have you seen the movie? where is the review? or is that a quote from another movie? please clarify for us.

    • MovieGeek

I’m not sure if he added it after your comment but he put this in the original article:

“Also, I guess the box art let the cat out of the bag – I’ve seen the movie. While my review is forthcoming, I am allowed to reveal that I quite adored it. I promise that hardcore Child’s Play fans will gush over Curse of Chucky, and it’s also a great introduction to the character for younger audience”

James Oster, a review for, also saw it and liked it.

  • Taboo

Doesn’t look too bad. Can’t wait to see this. Been so long!!

  • KaiSan

Why does Chucky look like a little girl?

    • evilfairydust

I think he looks like a girl, too!

      • MKF30

Ehh, I don’t think he looks like a girl just “updated or modernized” he also looks different in different shots and times of the film(much like the first movie which I like)

        P.S. you’re hot 😛

@Frank Zito, hardly this movie will be leaps and bounds better then Leprachaun give me a break, don’t compare Chucky to that joke of a series please.

  • ddarmody

Trailer looks pretty cool, but the artwork screams straight to video

    • ill_mindedd

i agree. this looks pretty cool but it also looks like a straight to DVD film. but still, i am pumped for it.

    • Polsdofer

Gee I thinks it’s because it’s straight to dvd

      • ill_mindedd

but not all straight to dvd movies scream that out. not all of them look like a straight to dvd film.

        • ddarmody

Oh i forgot all straight to dvd films have to have the cheesiest cover art. Thanks for clearing that up

          • ddarmody

Brings up an interesting question, best direct to video film with the best cover art?

          • Polsdofer

You guys were talking about this movie, not other movies but since were on the topic of other films, where would you like to start?

  • Frank Zito

This looks utterly shit. I hate when the have to modernise a series, ‘get ready for CG chucky’..yay -_- maybe people want it to be set in the 90’s because Chucky certainly is more of late 80’s/early 90’s idea and visual. The trailer is abysmal, it’s so predictable and jump-scare laiden it’s laughable. I predict this will be marginally better than Bride of Chucky but absolutely nowhere near the quality of the first 2, one degree above the Leprechaun remake by WWE Studios.

    • DreamWave

Not sure if my other comment went through or not, but i agree with you on that it DOES look too clean, polished and modernized…Chucky doesn’t belong in the 2000’s, like freddy & jason these sequels and reboots should be set in the 80’s. I was also turned off by the unnatural overly done WB plastic looking barbie doll actresses who can’t act their way out of a paper bag. plus the trailer looked too clean cut and predictable.

I miss how women looked in the 70’s and early to mid 80’s. they appereated far more natural. Also, i’d rather not watch this in Bluray….VHS is the best way to fly when it comes to horror, there’s nothing better than firing up that crusty relic of a vhs tape with it’s gritty fuzzy low res quality on a vintage wood CRT Tube tV and sitting back and getting the shit scared out of you.

Guess i’ll have to settle for the DVD! XP

  • Frank Zito

    *Seed of Chucky
Damn error with the site loading caused it send before I could edit my post.

  • DeathValzer

Chucky’s looking a little odd, yes. But pretty impressed w/ how good this looks.

  • mav07

he looks like Rosie O Donnel

    • Evan3

@mav07 – You nailed it with that observation, and that only freaks me out even further.

  • DreamWave

The trailer was extremely generic and predictable. I’m having a problem with it’s crispy sleak and polished modernized look and the phony overly done unatural WB barbie doll actresses who most likely can’t act their way out of a paper bag. Freddy, Jason and Chucky don’t belong in the 2000’s, the sequals should be set in the 80’s!

On the flipside, i actually kind of like chucky’s new look. It’s actually a little creepy, and it’s a god send compared to stich face chucky in Bride and Seed. Still super excited for this film, i just hate how the trailer felt like such a modernized sell out.

  • DreamWave

Oh and the box art is flippin’ terrible. CP1-3 did it 1 million times better.

well… my wife and I both thought the trailer was lame. Can’t say I’m very excited about this one now

  • markajacoby

Great! One of the lamest series in horror movie history is back. Oh goody! Look more grown adults that for some reason can’t outrun 24″ of rubber and plastic. Oooooo! So scary. Give me a damn break

    • Polsdofer

lol i hear you on that one. Seriously just kick the damn thing.

    • MKF30

What you forget is while Chucky is “physically smaller then a human” the doll still has the soul of a GROWN man, that means Charles Lee Ray’s strength of a grown man…come on man. Why do people ignore logic seriously?

Leprechaun was “small” too yet had magic abilities, so size is irrelevant not to mention Chucky is an veteran, deadly, smart serial killer with over 10 years of experience. Now, combine that with a stealthy vessel such as a “doll” which is smaller, harder to harm and harder to see especially in a dark ass house like the one in this movie. Not to mention as others pointed out, anyone who actually follows Child’s Play and knows Chucky knows the longer he stays inside the doll, the more he turns human within the doll….

    • MKF30

P.S. Chucky rocks and is one of the best horror franchises that made the genre what it is, lame my ass…lol to think Chucky is lame in itself is lame.

  • videodromezack

This movie needs some Jennifer Tilly to make it complete.

  • DarkOwl

The trailer looks so bad, I mean the editing is crap. But I think the movie would be good since I love Chucky movies.

  • FreddyKrueger13

I’ve never been a Chucky fan, but this did impress me; I’m gonna have to keep an eye on this

  • iszac

Is it only me that found Chucky’s has too many different faces in the trailer? I mean litteraly different, some it’s looks like original Chucky, some looks like the 4th and 5th movie Chucky, and some Asian girl looking Chucky.
And also, the cover art just has to retrieved to the older leaked OST cover! The Chucky now is too photoshop and not scary! (Also became fatty…)
I really hope this one turns out good. =(

  • OldSchoolHorror

Well, i did have somewhat high hopes for this but after watching this, that just died. I dig the way Chucky looks when he’s in normal doll mode but he looks like a joke when he’s in kill mode. Box art is b-movie grade style and it going direct to VOD and DVD/Blu Ray isn’t great news seeing how the studio passed on a theatrical release meaning they weren’t comfortable putting up the $ for it for a good reason. Brad Dourif will be the only reason that i might still try to watch this but im expecting to suck just like the last 2 did.

  • OldSchoolHorror

Also….whats with him looking cracked out with black all around his eyes in certain scenes? smh

    • DreamWave

he probably got smashed in the eye by the female lead. 😉 If you’ve watched all of the childs play movies than you’d know chucky tends to take one hell of a beating. XP

    • MKF30

Chucky turns human after time in the body, we saw the same effects with his eyes deepened, look more human in the original….smh.

And you do know they’re remaking Child’s Play in 2014 or 2015 right? which will go to theatres right as to why this went to DVD, one of the reasons.

I’m sure this will be as good if not better then that abomination of a Jason remake lol, turning Jason from a slow, pissed deformed child killer pissed that his mommy got killed(despite her being a psycho) into a “all of a sudden smart, tactical” killer who lives in the ground lmao…please. Wait until Child’s Play remake comes out, then talk to me when it blows other remakes away.

  • DreamWave

Aside from the trailer being predictable & lazy, it just seemed too modern, squeeky clean and polished, and I’m not feeling the unnatural plastic barbie doll WB looking actresses who typically on top of it all can’t act their way out of a paper bag. Chucky just doesn’t seem fitting for the 2000s and the same could easily be said for Freddy & Jason. Setting all 3 of these slasher titans in the 80’s is magic. It would be amazing if the next nightmare or friday film were set in that decade. 😀

Anyways, i’m still extremely excited! especially by Mr.D’s quote…

“Chucky’s back and better than ever”

And i for one actually like Chucky’s new look. it’s refreshing, creepy and far better than stitch face chucky from Bride and seed.

  • djblack1313

still waiting on clarification on the “review” comment from Brad on the cover. did you even see the movie or is that a fake comment they are using to promote the movie. as of now it looks like a fake promotional comment.

  • NRKee

Chucky looks like one of the Real Housewives, still excited to see this.

  • JArellano13

Upset it will be direct to blu ray & dvd 🙁 But happy he will be back right on time for Halloween!

  • sliceANDdiceISalwaysNICE

i remember that with the trailer for seed of chucky, they digitally blended his scars for some odd reason, which is why i think he looks bad in some of the shots here, like they digitally removed his freckles and eyebrows. not sure why they do this but i have hope

  • miistermorphine

Chucky becomes more human the longer he remains in the doll body. Probably and hopefully explaining the difference in his appearances in Curse.

  • Evan3

I am generally a Chucky novice outside of Bride of Chucky and the first one (both of which I enjoyed). @EvanDickson, any chance you are someone will do a comprehensive review/retrospective of the Chucky films like you did with the Alien series? I volunteer to do it for free!

  • HostelTakeover

It’s awesome that Brad Dourif’s daughter plays in this. (I just forgot how she looks like. :/)

  • ThunderDragoon

I’m a pretty big Chucky fan and I have mixed feelings on the trailer. I thought his different looks made no sense. Why does the doll look like the original when they show it in the box, but later it looks like a girl doll? Then later on it looks very similar to the Seed of Chucky doll only with the scars removed. Well, hopefully all is explained in the movie along with how he got this new doll body and why he’s tormenting this specific family. I’m glad Brad liked it, though, because that means I’ll love it. I do hope another trailer gets released before the movie comes out. Either way, I’ll be buying it the day of release. Chucky fan for life! 😀

  • ILikeToKill

I going on the premise that the reason why Chucky looks a little different would be because of how long he has been in the doll’s body. (the longer he is in the body, the more human he becomes) Anyways I’m pretty damn excited to see this. Unfortunate that its a DVD/Blu Ray release but on the other hand I o=won’t have to deal with a theater full of asshats.

  • SherryMD

In the novelization of Child’s Play 2, while Chucky buries the doll in the yard during the storm, he recalls another body he had buried in the rain – his mother. His mother physically abused him throughout his childhood and when he was old enough to look after himself he strangled her to death with his hands and buried the body. I’m sharing this because I wonder if we’ll see either of Chucky’s parents in flashbacks in this film.

  • HorrorFromDownUnder

    Don’t fu%# with the Chuck!!!!

  • Kwonkicker

Seems interesting, might check it out.

  • horrorking95

This trailer made me smile, just like all the wonderful Chucky films! It looks like its returning back to the basics, but unlike most people I actually prefer the crazy, funny Chucky films with Bride of Chucky being my favourite (still haven’t seen Seed). I mean how could a little doll with ginger hair be scary?

When I first heard that Don Mancini was going to reinvent his classic “Child’s Play” I was very excited. One, to see the franchise go back to being more horror and less comedy. Two, having the original creators involved is an almost certain guarantee that it will be successful. Almost… But then when I heard the new title and that it was recognized or actually refereed to as another addition/sequel I completely lost interest. For a long time. But giving the trailer a chance, it actually looks interesting. Maybe it is a remake of sorts with just a different name. So far it has recaptured my attention once again. 🙂

  • Ghoulstille

Looks hilarious to me and i mean that in a good way.

  • Austin

I have to say I’m really impressed with the way the movie is going so far, most movies you can read the plot and see one trailer and you have the movie figured out but I have to say with this movie….. I got nothing, the plot says he is going to finish a job he started 20 years ago but what does that mean, in the first movie Charles got gunned down by a cop that he swore he would get revenge on him but wasn’t able to, also he needed Andy to become human again but also was never able to do so, so what is the job he needs to finish? After watching the trailer witch looks amazing it still gives no answers on why chunky is after this family but I’m also happy they haven’t given anything away because it makes me that much more excited to see this movie, I also want to know what everyone else thinks chunky is after. Also with his new look I was disappointed at first but after re-watching the trailer and seeing the old chunky I think he looks scarier, I’m so pumped to see this!

    • Austin

      *chucky lol

  • DANTEarg

I think I like this new look. He looks the same in his “good guy mode”, but he looks different in his “chucky mode” but being truthful to his Good Guy mode. I think it is because they are using CGI or better animatronic that they had before. In the first movies when he was in the “chucky mode” the face changed completely, in an older way, with wrinkles and that stuff, It wasn´t the same doll at all. I don´t know why but i sense a “Toy Story” vibe in this new aspect. Maybe is a Good (Guy) thing.

    • DANTEarg

i´ve also read that this film is going to have a theatrical release in other countrys.
