Asylum Jam is an upcoming 48 hour-long game jam where teams of game designers will be tasked with creating horror games that do not use “asylums, psychiatric institutes, medical professionals or violent/antipathic/’insane’ patients as settings or triggers” in an effort to shy away from the myriad inaccurate stereotypes surrounding mental illness that we see in so many horror games (Asylum, Outlast, etc.).
The goal is simple: to prove that horror games can be successful without leaning on tired cliches about mental illness and the institutions and medical professionals that support those who suffer from it. You can learn more about Asylum Jam, which will kick off in October, on its website.
