OmniCorp Can’t Control ‘RoboCop’ In the Trailer Premiere!

RoboCop-2

Dead or alive, you’re coming with me…

The trailer has been released for MGM and Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop, which stars Joel Kinnaman as the title character. While I wish the film was more of a sequel than a reboot, I do like that the filmmakers did their own thing by really pushed home the military aspect (hence the black armor), and the modern struggle to control the human mind. Alex Murphey, errr, RoboCop has a mind of his own. Frankly, I actually think it looks kind of cool…

Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael Keaton, Aimee Garcia also star in the Jose Padilha-directed reboot in theaters February 7, 2014.

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Not a fan of the black suit design but I really liked the reworked silver design. Other than that bitching, it’s another trailer that gives away the whole movie.

  • Ghoulstille

I never thought i would say this, I like it.

    • coldblood

I’m with ya, it actually looks pretty good.

I mean, I’ll miss the vulgarity, off camera rape, sadistic violence, excessive gore, and coke whores from the original. But it will be a good one to take the kids to since the original is not a good idea despite the cool story.

Who knows – we might just buy this for a dollar.

  • TwistedCritic

“When PG-13 crime is out of control…” So far this looks what I expected – a sleeker but tamer redo of the original. Look no further than Murphy getting quickly wiped out by an explosion, rather than being brutally tortured and shot like in the original. At least the cast looks pretty good, and hopefully it won’t be as bad as the remake of Total Recall.

    • divisionbell

Yeah my heart sank when I saw the explosion. This doesn’t look as outright horrible as I was expecting, but I was really hoping for something darker.

And for some reason his one bare, human hand is distracting to me….

  • Remember-Slithis

Agreed Twisted! On Murphy’s injuries.I love the Original so if this sucks I still have that. But it looks good, could be real bad too.I’ll watch I like the Silver Suit look in this.

  • djblack1313

i love Joel Kinnaman (he’s awesome on THE KILLING…in fact you even see some of his “Holder-ism” in this trailer!) but this doesn’t look interesting to me. i hope it turns out to be a good movie for people though! i’m rooting for Joel!

    • coldblood

You need to check out a foreign flick called SNABBA CASH aka EASY MONEY.

      • djblack1313

coldblood, i actually have SNABBA on disc but just haven’t gotten around to watching it yet! it’s a good flick? i hear it & Joel are great!

  • WolfQueen

I’m cautiously optimistic. I haven’t seen the original since I was a kid. I, like DJ, LOVE Joel Kinnaman. He’s one of the best things on TV in the killing. I enjoy the black suit with the red, I think it’s pretty flashy. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  • mountain twin

I am so grateful that we will always have the original.
Peter Weller is the only Robocop, the only Murphy.
I’m all for a good remake, re-whats-it, but nothing comes close to the excitement of a Verhoeven film. Unless I see a toxic waste infused body get splattered by oncoming traffic, a human hand blown off and Red from That 70s Show get stabbed in the neck… I’m NOT buying this for a dollar.
But I will shell out whatever opening day.

  • Zombie-Killa

A lot I don’t like in this trailer, but there are some things I DO like. I like how they changed the way Murphy became crippled/died, because in the original, it’s hard to believe someone can get shot 400,234 times at point blank range and you can still somehow salvage their body afterwards. I also like the new suit and Murphy’s movements. In the old films, his movements were very clunky and awkward.

I’ll be optimistic, because I LOVED the new Dredd, but hopefully they’ll leave the jetpack alone this time, that or don’t bring it out until part three. lol.

  • dirtyghettok

This isn’t Robo-Cop. They should’ve gave it a different name and if worse came to worse SyFy would of bought it to go along with Sharknado.

    • mobstar67

i have to concur with dirtyghettok…i see some syfy looking effects in this trailer…im not too optimistic and im kinda thinkin they should leave it alone unless they gonna go all out and do it up right..it seldom happens these days but its not out of the question ala Hills Have Eyes…

  • Rake

Why did they feel the need to change to the black suit at all? The grey one looks more distinctive, it’s like they wanted it to be more generic with no contrast.

  • Skratchy

Yawwwwwn. Shitty Total Recall-esque, overblown budget, PG-13, melo-drama bull crap.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

Looks like it got the ‘Total Recall’ remake treatment. Doesn’t look good at all; so damn generic!

  • Bad_Lieutenant17

Guys come on. I know that the new Robocop isn’t rated R but Samuel Jackson has been in plenty of good movies where he doesn’t say “mother fucker.” Remember those Star Wars prequels? Oh wait….

  • j.c

My son will want to see it so I’ll probably take him. It doesn’t look as bad as I was expecting. Meanwhile, I still have my criterian uncut edition of the original, I have the feeling I’ll be re-visiting it real soon.

  • Krug09

Looks like i am not the only one who thinks the silver suit redo was badass…. this looks like a decent movie, however i really hope, in like the original, the film isn’t explosion from start to finish and tells a story. it isn’t CGI battles for 90 mins. and you know what PG-13 isn’t the problem its how well the story is told and if its not just a hybrid film of the original movies. Look at AVPR, an R rating did shit for the movie and dare i say a diff rating SOMETIMES can help a remake to be different as long as they make it different and a good story…. anyway… i liked the silver redo, who gives a shit if it didnt look as “stealthy”. it looked really cool.

  • doomas10

I liked almost nothing at the trailer. The new design is awful, the delivery of the line “dead or alive you are coming with me” hideous and from action perspective it was just meh. Saving grace? The casting! Oldman, Jackson, Keaton????!?! Score! But it looks so toned down and pg friendly…Not sure about this

  • SonOfVoorhees

Silver suit looked great shame they painted it black. By painting it it looks like a generic suit, they lost the character of it. The of the trailer just looks like a generic sci fi remake ala Total Recall….but thats what you get when you go from 18 cert to pg.

  • horrorking95

I’ve not seen the original Robocop yet so I have nothing to compare. This looks like it could be a fun action flick, full of explosions with no brain. I don’t think it’s anything to get excited about.

    • Quadra

Watch the original to confirm your last statement :)

  • JasonVoorhees1981

Looks cool, but Robocop’s look is shitty.

  • DethHand

I’m beyond shocked that I liked this trailer. Overall, this looks entertaining. And why is everyone hating on the Total Recall remake lol? It was a lot better than I expected and found it really fun to watch… Hell, it was worth watching just to see Kate Beckinsale in her panties lol.

  • CTHL

Pretty bad when a movie from ’87 has a [MUCH] better looking costume. But even beyond that petty superficial complaint it still doesn’t look any good. The guy playing Robo seems awful. The rest looks like a “high quality” SyFy/Asylum production with better actors. Boo.

  • Quadra

Hmm. Opening scene of drone flying over city … Guess in the future my city (Detroit) gains a mountain range ?!

  • tbgo

Corny. They should have left this back in the ’80s.
