‘Dying Light’ 4v1 Mode Pits You Against An Unkillable Player-Controlled Monster
Evolve isn’t even out yet and it’s already starting a trend of 4v1 competitive multiplayer modes, which are now being seen in games like Shadow Realms and now it looks like Dying Light will be getting something similar. A new multiplayer mode was revealed at Gamescom today that sounds a bit like the Agent Hunt mode in Resident Evil 6. In it, a team of four survivors are pit against a nearly unkillable player-controlled Hunter — those guys with the frakked up jaws that look like the anti-vampire vampires in Blade II.
I compare this to the Agent Hunt mode because this stranger can join your regular co-op game at any time. This means you may want to stick together when playing Dying Light online, lest you get picked off one by one by a player-controlled baddie. I’m guessing it will optional, something you can opt out of if you’d rather just play with some friends, but this definitely adds an element of suspense to the game if you choose to open your world up to intrusion.
Below is the new Gamescom trailer, in case you missed it.
Dying Light releases in February 2015 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
