Historic Original ‘Friday the 13th Part III’ Ending Discovered!!!

f13-3

Fans of the Friday the 13th films are consistently tortured when revising the franchise that was riddled with problems through its 30+ years in production. While the middle entries were subject to cuts by the MPAA, the earlier films also made some vast changes, some of which were considered folk lore – that is, until today.

Fridaythe13thfranchise has landed one of the biggest Halloween discoveries in the history of horror, and have confirmed that, without a shadow of a doubt, the 1982 Friday the 13th Part III ended with Final Girl Chris Higgins losing her head to Jason Voorhees’ machete! And while no video footage allegedly survived all of these years, the site did manage to get their hands on the original, never-before-seen finale in a series of photos!

Billy Kirkus has unearthed some of the most important still photography ever witnessed by Friday The 13th fans, for which we can finally piece together a visual representation of that long lost original ending to the third film in the franchise. Of course, it would be other worldly to have gotten our hands on actual motion footage of the ending, but what we have here is still a real treat for fans. Not only has Billy scanned numerous scenes from the first ending to digital files to post online, but we have arranged the images in the best possible order so fans can get a complete visual idea of how Chris meets her demise at the hands of Jason…

For the original ending, Chris awakens in the canoe on Crystal Lake after the events of the previous evening left her as the lone survivor. Chris rows the canoe back to shore and begins walking towards the house with an exhausted demeanor. She suddenly hears a noise from the house, and thinking it’s Rick, begins to run to the porch of the house. Once she arrives at the front door, it suddenly bursts open and Jason emerges, to the surprise of Chris. Jason then grabs Chris by the hair and chops her head off with a machete.

These images show the original look of Jason Voorhees as well, which was a mask designed by effects artist Stan Winston. After the decision was made to excise this original ending, the look of Jason was completely overhauled to what we now see in film today.

Head over to Fridaythe13thfranchise for the entire collection of never-before-seen stills and celebrate this historic occasion!

How cool. This was always my favorite film outta the franchise. With all the money these films made Paramount, nobody thought keeping video footage of this ending would be a good idea?

    • Ronnie Lee Dill Jr

They waited thirty two years to tell us that? Interesting’ But why was it cut?

    • J Jett

STRIK9, excellent question. from what i understand Paramount has always looked down on the F13 films yet they loved all the $$$ they would bring in. it pisses me off so much that all the footage (especially from my favorites 1-5) was treated like trash. the fans deserved better from Paramount/those in control of that lost footage.

  • Francesco Falciani

so bloody cool. i would like to get the shoot too. but it’s like to be on those days again… the new one won’t never be like the old fridays.

  • RidleyScottIsADirector@gmail.c

That’s crazy, they should’ve kept it in.

  • Phil

That’s actually a pretty cool ending & one I prefer. The only difference would be Jason not getting “killed” & reawakening in the morgue in Final Chapter.

    • James

I would have liked this over the mom coming out of the lake. Could still have her wake up crazy and screaming like in the original.

  • Bouncy X

that is very cool but damn that makeup…..i mean its not bad by itself. but it looks nothing like Jason, there;s no hint of him being deformed and whatnot. he basically looks like he came out of Wrong Turn instead of being the “mongoloid”….though considering Winston made that movie and the makeup there, guess its not surprising. i imagine that ending would have surprised people as the “final girl” dying wasn’t something we got much of during that time.

    • LokiFX

Jason looks more like Sloth from The Goonies in these pics. Disturbing.

  • J Jett

i’m just confused, is the BIG news that not all of these pix have been seen before? some of these have been around for years…

it still stings that all the deleted/MPAA cut footage from F13 Part 2 is gone forever (with not even pictures of the scenes to appease us F13 fans!).

  • J Jett

oh, i forgot, what’s always cracks me up is the wig on the dummy(?) Chris looks NOTHING like Dana Kimmell’s hair.

  • astronauta69

    cool story

  • G.A. McGillivray

I’m glad that ending was cut. Honestly – having Jason ‘die’ at the end of part 3 was like Han Solo being taken away at the end of Empire – I was like “Noooooo…” After 3 movies, by the end of Part 3 – I was rooting for Jason – He was almost an anti-hero because of his backstory – so I was disappointed that he died – but hopeful he’d come back…

It made Part 4 all that much better for me!

    • LokiFX

I always treated Mrs Voorhees as the hero of the first Friday the 13th. Who knows how many more kids would drown thanks to half-assed counselors.

  • ThunderDragoon

    Oh wow! XD

  • diapers

I gladly devour any and all F13 material. I would murder puppies to get to see all the lost footage from the early films in the franchise.

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

Wow. Seems like nine times out of ten when I hear about these “original endings” I prefer them over what we actually got. Wish this would’ve been the dream sequence instead of Mrs. Voorhees coming out of the lake, for sure.
