Techland recently announced that they had made the decision to put their promising dark fantasy game Hellraid on hold in order to focus on their massively successful open-world survival horror game Dying Light, which released this January.
At the Polish games conference Digital Dragons, Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka confirmed to Eurogamer that the decision to put the game on the back burner was a temporary one, and that development on it could possibly resume as early as this fall.
“Right now we want to concentrate on Dying Light,” explained Marchewka. “We wanted to be fair with the fans so we wanted to send a clear message, especially as a lot of the people were expecting new things coming from Hellraid at E3 and Gamescom. We decided to take the pressure away.”
So for now, it’s just not a priority. Seeing as Dying Light has sold somewhere in the vicinity of 4 million copies, I can’t say I blame them for wanting to put it first.
“But putting on hold means we want some of the resources to concentrate on Dying Light, and once they do what needs to be done we will come back to Hellraid.”
That’s good, because I could use something to scratch that Skyrim itch, and judging from this footage of the new-and-improved Hellraid, this game looks extremely capable of scratching it.
