Moody New ‘Asylum’ Footage Heads to Hanwell
Buckle your seatbelt or I swear by the blood of the Old Ones, I will turn this fucking car around. The only thing that’s worse than dying a slow and terrible death on the cold, unclean floor of an abandoned mental institute is getting thrown face-first through a windshield on the way there. That’s just embarrassing.
I’ve written about Scratches creator Agustín Cordes’ horror adventure game Asylum a number of times over the last few years since its wildly successful crowdfunding campaign raised nearly $120,000 nearly three years ago. It’s been delayed a few times since then, and now it’s almost ready to show us what it’s got.
In this latest video, we’re treated to the first two minutes of the game, in which our silent hero follows in the footsteps of Miles Upshur, unaware of the horrors that await him inside the walls of the Hanwell Mental Institute.
“The intro may look subtle but if you pay attention you might notice disturbing details,” explains Asylum developer Senscape. “Keep in mind this not final and, thanks to the feedback of our Kickstarter backers, we’re working on some small but key changes. We hope you enjoy this preliminar look into our ambitious project that may earn a permanent place in your nightmares.”
There’s no release date for this, but it is a PC exclusive. If this moody gameplay footage is indicative of what the rest of the game will look like, I am absolutely on-board with it. What do you think?

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
