Judge Dredd the Television Series?!

After years of trying to get a sequel off the ground, Judge Dredd will instead be returning on the small screen.

IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion have struck a deal to turn the iconic comic book character into a live-action TV show called “Judge Dredd: Mega City One”, reports EW.

What’s cool about this take is the series will be about multiple Judges, as opposed to just Dredd.

The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.

The character of Dredd — who is known for his incorruptibility, harsh attitude towards law-breaking “perps,” and upper face-concealing helmet — was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra in 1977 and first appeared in the British science fiction anthology comic 2000 AD, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. “Judge Dredd” has twice been adapted for the big screen. Sylvester Stallone played the titular character in 1995’s Judge Dredd, while Karl Urban portrayed the role in 2012’s Dredd.

Just got the email about this. As excited as I am about it, I’m still sad that the 2012 never got a sequel. I love that movie.

The show needs to be on cable like HBO or Starz and with a decent budget. Unless this is a straight up reboot, Karl Urban or Olivia Thirlby should reprise their roles from the films for special episodes.

    Yesssssss,,,,

It’ll never happen. This movie needs a massive budget to be somewhat acceptable. It will not get that budget.

So this is a continuation of the Dredd movie and Karl Urban is returning right?

  • RJ MacReady

If Karl Urban returns this would be awesome. Dredd(2012) is so underrated.

If they don’t bring back Karl Urban for this show, well… a riot is an ugly thing, but I think it might be about time that we had one.

If this isn’t on Stars or streaming with Adults only levels of violence, I cannot see how it will work, given the source material.
