Album Review: Istapp ‘Blekinge’

Here’s a little bit about Istapp to get you to understand what kind of album I’m reviewing: These guys are from Sweden, their name translates to ‘icicle’ and they define their musical style as black metal. Okay, so let’s reword those three facts: A Swedish black metal band whose name is synonymous with winter and sharp, pointy objects. Yeah, I know EXACTLY what I’m getting into. If you’re into black metal, so should you. But how does this fare against all the other black metal releases that come out? Well, you know the drill! Check out after the jump!

Istapp Release Cover Art for ‘Blekinge’

Hailing from Blekinge, Sweden, one of the traditional provinces of Sweden situated in the south of the country bordering Smaland, Scania and the Baltic Sea, are the three warlords that form Istapp; Mordechai von Renvaktar, C. Ashuck von Renvaktar and Fjalar. Setting out on a campaign to destroy the sun and all of its followers, Istapp is currently preparing to unleash the band’s Metal Blade Records debut Blekinge on June 8th in the US and Canada.
Blekinge comes from the adjective bleke that corresponds to the nautical term for “dead calm,” but Istapp’s forthcoming album is anything but.
