[Podcast] ‘Aural Pleasure’ Gets Bizarre and Talks Black Friday

Could anything be more wrong with our Aural Pleasure guys? In this month’s edition, Jonny, Bill, and Adam (Hugh Janus, Bulbous Head, and A Meat Popsicle, respectively) talk about Skyrim, major record labels considering discontinuing the production of CDs by the end of 2012, what they would do with $500 for Black Friday shopping, and more! Obviously, they make sure to fill up the podcast with horrible obscenities, callous statements, and some potentially inflammatory remarks. All in a days work for these fine fellows!

2011 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: BOOKS & COMICS

2011 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: BOOKS & COMICS

2011 was a great year for Books & Comics in a Bloody-Disgusting way. From a surprisingly tender look at the inner emotional workings of a zombie to the return of Clive Barker to his native stomping grounds – there’s no shortage of variety when it comes to the horrific printed page. And a bonus, most of these puppies are pretty cheap and make excellent stocking stuffers to compliment that $300 dollar Predator figure you know you’re buying for your creepy uncle. On the not so cheap side of the prose spectrum are those coffee table books – but they’re well worth it since you’ll probably look at them almost every day until the next Chopping List rolls around. 2011 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: FILMS & TV

2011 BLACK FRIDAY CHOPPING LIST: FILMS & TV

It’s that time of year again. While 2011 wasn’t exactly a banner year for horror films it wasn’t terrible either. Even an average year has plenty of merits and we’ve compiled a list of some of the best stuff released on DVD/Blu since the last time the Chopping List rolled around. Occasionally we dip our toes outside of the genre a touch when it comes to extremely violent masked vigilante movies or your last chance in the foreseeable future to pick up the complete adventures of a certain boy wizard (hey, it’s got monsters and sh*t) but we always wade back into the gore eventually. And if you ever wanted a couple of exhaustive looks at Return Of The Living Dead, 2011 is your year.

So, without further ado – here’s the Film/TV portion of our annual Chopping List! Feel free to toss in some of your own ideas into the comment section. READ MORE

[Podcast] ‘Dead Pixels’ Talks Skyrim, Skyrim, Skyrim and Skyrim

They’ve done it again. Nerded out to the max. Take a listen to the newest episode of the Dead Pixels Podcast, as TJ sits in awe while Adam goes on and on about the new ‘Elder Scrolls Skyrim’ – then they talk about some ‘Batman’ – and back to ‘Skyrim’ – to ‘Gears of War 3′ – back to ‘Skyrim’ – ‘Goldeneye’ – ‘Skyrim’… THEN, Adam gets taken away by a stray dragon he forgot to slay.

The two nerdy masterminds discuss ‘Skyrim,’ and more ‘Skyrim.’ ‘Alan Wake’. ‘Skyrim’. Capcom, ‘Skyrim.’ What I’m trying to say is Adam loves ‘Skyrim.’ Do you love ‘Skyrim’?

Check Out Our 2011 Halloween Costume Winners!

Sorry it took so long to announce (the American Film Market has destroyed any free time available) but we’re super excited to share with you the winners of Bloody Disgusting’s Halloween costume contest that was running over at our official Facebook.

While there were tons of amazing entries, Brian Halm won first prize with the creepy little zombie girl costume.

Crsp FX (zombie) and Radio Active Art (Jason Voorhees) won second place.

I think the promotion went pretty well and we’ll hopefully do it on a larger scale next year. We love seeing everyone’s costumes and how much effort are put into them. There’s nothing worse than wearing a costume for a few hours and then saying goodbye forever… READ MORE

AFM ’11: The American Film Market and 100 New Horror Films!

Every November we assault you, I mean we literally assault you with hundreds of half-assed stories from the American Fim Market (AFM), which takes place annually in Santa Monica, CA.

What’s this market we speak of?

For the average movie journalist there’s not much there, but for us horror fiends who need our constant genre fix it’s the biggest buzz of the year. There are literally hundreds of new films dropped on our radars within the course of 24 hours. It’s even the place major films have been discovered from Moon to Splice, Dance of the Dead, Inside and even Frontier(s). For us who can’t afford a trip out of the country, this is THE market for new horror films.

So we assault you, yes, with information on hundreds of new titles. It’s a great way to get them all in our database for future referencing when companies acquire these guys for future release. We’ve been trying to keep the mass of it off the front page, with most of it being buried in our independent news section. For ease, if you want to scour it all, click here for nearly a hundred breaking stories. News will continues through the weekend. Brace yourself. READ MORE

Top Secret Bloody Disgusting Horror Film Revealed: ‘V/H/S’!!!

Top Secret Bloody Disgusting Horror Film Revealed: V/H/S!!!

With The Woman now in theaters across the country, I was interviewed by the LA Times (it was super weird, especially considering the only people I’m comfortable talking to are you guys) who broke the news about a top secret project we’ve been working on for the better part of the year (with even more info in this second article). I guess it’s time to let the cat out of the bag (and then gut it).

The Bloody Disgusting/Collective/Site B feature production is called V/H/S and in currently in production.

The best way to describe it without giving anything away is that it’s a new kind of found footage horror film from the perspective of several genre filmmakers we personally know and love.

So who is part of the madness, you ask? Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Pop Skull), Simon Barrett (You’re Next, Dead Birds, Read Sands), Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost, The Innkeepers), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), along with Radio Silence, the YouTube sensations formerly known as Chad, Matt and Rob (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Chad Villella)!

Not too shabby, eh?!

We’re really, really excited to share this labor of love with you guys and hope to have something ready come 2012. We’ll keep you guys posted, and thank you for your support over the past decade. (I can’t believe it’s been nearly 11 years already.) Hopefully we’ll make you proud, because frankly, that’s all we care about.

Special Feature: The 2011 Midyear Horror Report!

Even at its onset, 2011 seemed like a real delicate time for horror. Is handheld horror still going to be the rage by the time Paranormal Activity 3 hits theatres? Has romance-heavy horror run its course? Will the French continue to impress us? Late last decade, “torture porn” – a phrase coined by New York Magazine’s David Edelstein – finally seemed to start dying out (it’s amazing Captivity didn’t single-handedly kill it off and it seems to have officially ended – for all intents and purposes – with Saw 3D) and now that remakes and reboots have taken over, along with the above mentioned trends, what’s going to be the next big thing? After the strong (and very profitable) theatrical run Insidious had earlier this year, it might be ghosts flicks, but even that’s starting to seem stale at this point. Like the last few years, foreign output and oddball indie surprises seem to be the only thing keeping the genre afloat, so thank God for Magnolia.

But it hasn’t been all bad. In fact, I could make a Top 10 list right now. So, let’s look back at the year so far, and examine some of the films and events that are shaping the future of the genre.

The Dead Rise: Bloody Disgusting Podcast Returns With Episode 39

We strive to make sure everything we bring you is of the best of our abilities, thus we had put our podcast on hiatus. This morning we’ve relaunched the Official Bloody Disgusting Podcast with Episode 39, the first of our newly organized series that will mix in all sorts of different topics – from movies to comics to video games – each and every week.

This week joining us on the show is Bloody Disgusting’s newly minted writer Lauren Taylor. Since it has been awhile, in this episode we delve through our stack of horror screeners and talk about the stuff we usually would not talk about (can anyone say SyFy original!?). We also review John Carpenters The Ward, Season of the Witch and more! All of this plus our look at Orlando’s own “Spooky Empire’s MAY-HEM” convention, along with a bit of insight on “The Evil Dead: The Musical.”

You can listen inside, by checking out our podcast page or by searching “Bloody Disgusting” on iTunes.

Bloody Disgusting Selects: ‘Rammbock’ Gets May 4th Release

Take note: Starting Wednesday May 4th, AMC theaters across the country will be showing Bloody Disgusting Selects films every Wednesday and Friday, with a new film dropping into the mix every month.

The first flick arriving in theaters is Marvin Kren’s German zombie film Rammbock, which will be preluded with an exclusive short film. Full event plans forthcoming, along with ticket links. Again, the movie will be playing every Wednesday and Friday night for the month of May, starting on the 4th. I guess you can say those will be known as BD nights? Grab some Taco Bell first…

In Rammbock: “Just when Michael arrives in Berlin to visit his ex-girlfriend Gabi, a terrible virus starts spreading across the city at a rapid pace, turning people into mindless homicidal maniacs. Much to Michael’s concern, Gabi’s not home; instead, he meets Harper, a teenage plumber’s apprentice at work in her apartment block. Together, they manage to barricade themselves when raging hordes of infected people swarm the building. Surrounded by these thirsty zombies, Michael and Harper have their hands full to survive – and it will take all of their ingenuity to make their way out to try and find Gabi.

You’ll find the international trailer inside.

Bloody Disgusting Launches Film Series with AMC and The Collective!

I don’t know about you guys, but I get pretty frustrated when I can’t see a horror movie that’s already getting rave reviews out of Japan, Germany, Europe, and even right here in the States.

There’s nothing more aggravating than hearing behind-the-scenes “acquisition” drama about great films like Inside, Frontier(s), Mandy Lane, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, among many others. The fact of the matter is, most distribution companies HATE foreign films and feel that you guys don’t want to see them. That’s why REC was just dumped onto DVD without even a chance for you to see it in theaters (an atrocity from my perspective).

With the rise of “digital entertainment,” thanks to VOD, horror may have found a new life. Over the course of the next decade I expect an overflow of genre films, so much so that you’re head is going to spin.

After 10 years of reporting on other people’s films, we’re excited to announce our jump into the distro world, an exciting place where we’ve finally been given the opportunity to be the dudes who bring you quality (this is very important to us) horror from across the globe – films we personally love and think you will too.

So with that we’re proud to introduce BLOODY DISGUSTING SELECTS, a new genre label that will bring you “quality” worldwide genre cinema via theaters, VOD, online, DVD and even television.

Inside you’ll find the official press release announcing the first 3 films, but before you make a move I want to make one thing very clear: we consider Bloody Disgusting a community. For a decade now our focus has always been about giving you dear horror fans a VOICE, an uncensored opinion on news, reviews and much, much more. This will continue to be the way, the only way; this will and always will be our main focus. We’re going to let you guys make or break the films. Good or bad, your opinions will be highlighted and shared with the Bloody Disgusting community proudly. YOU are Bloody Disgusting.

BloodyDisgusting Named One Of The Top Movie Sites Of The DECADE

Bloody Disgusting
“Bloody Disgusting has been slightly controversial of late for its close association with horror production company Platinum Dunes. That aside, this is a site for people who take horror movies seriously, as their in-depth reviews of even the most obscure slasher pics (rated in skulls, naturally) demonstrate. Reviewers have a knack of seeing the gory stuff before anyone else, and the forum community is, well, lively.”
