To go along with the new teaser and earlier released character images, EW’s newest issue featuring “American Horror Story: Asylum“ shares loads of first looks behind-the-scenes. Take a peak and pick up the new issue on newsstands this weekend.

Being committed this October, only on FX, the new season is set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane in 1964, and revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.

Clea Duvall, Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, The Voice’s Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and newcomer Lizzie Brochere round out the cast. Other returning cast members set to play new roles include Sarah Paulson, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.

The first installment of “American Horror Story” earned 17 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, tying for the most of any program this year and setting a record for the most Emmy nominations for a miniseries in basic cable history. Finally! Now we get to meet the characters of “American Horror Story: Asylum”! EW got their hands on 10 stills featuring the primary cast in character and, for my money, it looks more interesting that Season 1. Also – it’ll feature Aliens? Per the article, ““aliens, Nazis, and a serial killer named Bloody Face who wears a mask made out of his victims skin along with black nightie and opera length gloves.”

Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane in 1964, the upcoming season revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.

The upcoming second season/installment of FX’s horror series/miniseries “American Horror Story” will be titled “American Horror Story: Asylum,” co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy announced today, reports DL.

Set in 1964, “American Horror Story: Asylum” stars Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, and Joseph Fiennes.

Principal photography on “AHS: Asylum” started on July 17 for an October premiere.

“We picked ‘Asylum’ because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted,” Murphy said. “This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”

Clea Duvall (Identity, The Faculty, The Grudge) is headed to Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s “American Horror Story“ asylum.

THR reports that the actress, who starred on the short-lived HBO drama “Carnivale,” has booked a multiple-episode role on the rebooted second season of “American Horror Story.”

Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, the upcoming season revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.

Details on Duvall’s role, like many others for the new round of “Horror Story,” are being kept under wraps but she’s expected to share scenes opposite returning cast member Sarah Paulson.

Duvall joins a cast that includes Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, The Voice’s Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and newcomer Lizzie Brochere round out the cast. Other returning cast members set to play new roles include Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.

Season 2 of FX’s “American Horror Story“ begins production this week, but it looks like they are still adding folks to the asylum.

Former “All My Children” star Mark Consuelos (pictured below) is joining “AHS” as a patient named Spivey.

Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe — who in Season 1 played Constance, Chad, Tate, psychic Billie Dean and doctor’s wife Nora — are all set to return but as different characters. New cast members include Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine, Lizzie Brochere, Joseph Fiennes and James Cromwell.

Bradley Buecker will be returning to the series and will direct both episodes 201 and 202. Tim Minear scripted the season premiere, while Final Destination, Black Christmas and “X-Files”‘ James Wong takes on episode 202.

The new season takes place in a 1960′s mental hospital, said show creator Ryan Murphy back in May. READ MORE

The actor, who co-starred on the short-lived CW supernatural drama “The Secret Circle,” has joined the rebooted drama in a mysterious new role, THR has learned.

Details on who Zylka will play in the second season of the FX drama from “Glee” co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are being kept under wraps.

“American Horror Story“ apparently isn’t done populating the asylum at the center of its upcoming second season.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Britne Oldford, best known for her role as moody, pill-popping Cadie in MTV’s “Skins,” is joining the FX hit in the recurring role of Alma. A description of Alma was not made available, but conventional wisdom points to her being one of the patients holed up at the institution for the criminally insane run by Jessica Lange.

Other new faces on tap for Season 2 of the FX hit include “Big Love”‘s Chloe Sevigny, “The Voice”‘s Adam Levine, French actress Lizzie Brochere, “FlashForward”‘s Joseph Fiennes and Oscar nominee James Cromwell, while Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe — who in Season 1 played Constance, Chad, Tate, psychic Billie Dean and doctor’s wife Nora — are all set to return but as different characters.

“American Horror Story” show creator Ryan Murphy has been getting a bit more giddy in public about the secrets he has in store for the upcoming season of the hit show. Even though he’s not really giving anything away, he’s definitely doing a good job of selling the concept. I have to say, I’m kind of intrigued by the narrative freedom that might be afforded by transporting the main cast into brand new characters in a brand new setting.

We already knew that Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Adam Levine, Lizzie Brochere, Chloe Sevigny and James Cromwell have all been locked in, with the returning cast playing new roles. And Murphy had also disclosed that the season would be “set in an institution for the criminally insane that Jessica Lange’s character runs.”

Murphy now tells TV Line, “I don’t want to say what Zach and Lily are doing, or what anybody else is doing, until we get closer to [fall]. But I’ll continue to say that everybody is playing the opposite of what they played last year, which I think is why they’re all so into it. Like, I have talked to Zach and Jessica and they were very excited… and that’s a rare thing.” But in keeping with the “opposite” theme, does that mean Peters, who in Season 1 played the rather evil Tate, will be the new chapter’s hero? “Knowing me it will be the anti-hero,” Murphy teases. “It won’t be what you expect.”

I’m interested to see where Murphy takes the third season, which he already has planned out as well. “American Horror Story” returns to FX this fall. READ MORE

American Psycho and Zodiac star Chloe Sevigny, who we just reported also joined the cast of Innocence, has joined Season 2 of the FX hit “American Horror Story”, reports EW.

Sevigny will play “Shelly the Nymphomaniac,” who is one of the mortal enemies of Jessica Lange’s character. Basically, prepare yourself for Lange vs. Sevigny! They add that the writers and producers of “AHS” were such fans of Sevigny that they wrote the part with her in mind.

The actress will join Lange, Zachary Quinto, Adam Levine, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe in the new season, which Murphy has revealed will be set in an East Coast institution for the criminally insane run by Lange’s character.
