Could Jessica Lange Return to “American Horror Story”?

Published

Two major pieces of “American Horror Story” news came out of an interview with Ryan Murphy over at Deadline.

After five seasons, leading lady Jessica Lange exited the series and will not appear in FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel,” premiering this fall.

And while it sure felt final, Murphy tells the site that there’s always hope for a triumphant return for Lange.

“Well, all I can say about that [is] never say never with Jessica,” Murphy explained when asked about the difficulty in losing her. “I think if I went to Jessica and I had an amazing role, I think she would do it. I think she wanted some time off, but Jessica is somebody that is always about the role, in every season on this show.”

Although Lange exited the series, “Hotel” will feature Lady Gaga as well as Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Sarah Paulson, Chloë Sevigny, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson. But the cast is still growing.

“We’re just finalizing Denis O’Hare’s deal, he’s going to come back,” revealed Murphy. “Everybody else is pretty much done.”

He continues: “We start shooting in three weeks and we’re building this incredible set which is one of our best sets ever I think — which is saying a lot because our production designer Mark Worthington I thought really outdid himself in ‘Freak Show’ — but we’re building this incredible six-story Art Deco hotel on the Fox lot.”

Even more exciting is the reveal that two regulars are reversing roles.

“Everybody in the show is very excited about this season, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters particularly because in every season thus far they’ve always been sort of the heroes, the good guy or the good lady so to speak, and this season they’re playing absolute evil villains so they’re very excited about that and I think people will really enjoy it…

“…and the Gaga part is bananas good.”

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
