The Total Recall Trailer Is Here, But Forgot To Bring The Fun

The trailer for Len Wiseman’s highly anticipated remake of Total Recall has landed. Of course it’s up to everyone to make up their own mind on this, but it looks to have completely dropped the fun and satirical edge that the brilliant 1990 film had. I suppose the movie could still actually be good, but I never really had my hopes super up for this one and nothing has changed now that the trailer’s here. It just looks so rote and flat. I also can’t really buy John Cho in that role. More importantly though, what do you think?

In the remake, “Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy). The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Total Recall is in theaters August 3rd. Hit the jump for the trailer. READ MORE

[BD Review] ‘Sinister’ Is Super Scary But Doesn’t Always Add Up

[BD Review] Sinister Is Super Scary But Doesnt Always Add Up

Summit Entertainment’s Sinister had a “secret” screening last night at The SXSW Film Festival in Austin. I had to put “secret” in quotes because a certain trade magazine decided to spoil the surprise just because they could. Directed by The Exorcism of Emily Rose‘s Scott Derrickson, the film stars Ethan Hawke, James Ranson, and Juliet Rylance and there’s been quite a bit of anticipation for it, especially considering that it doesn’t open until October 5th. Sadly, the film didn’t live up to expectations. Mr. Disgusting writes in with his review.

While the chiller will cloud your mind with extreme visuals and a brooding score/sound design, you shouldn’t be tricked into thinking this is a good movie… Sinister is a plot-laden mess that requires an incredibly high amount of suspension of disbelief. The best way to describe it is ’8MM’ meets ‘Paranormal Activity’. In an odd turn of events, this film is still highly recommended for those seeking one good scare and an unnerved stomach, it’s highly effective.

Penned by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, “the story follows a journalist who moves his family into a house where another family was murdered. After moving in, he uncovers found footage that leads to clues about the murders.

Plot Details, New Casting For Platinum Dunes’ ‘Vigilandia’

Rhys Wakefield (pictured below; Sanctum ) will star opposite Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge and Tony Oller in sci-fi thriller Vigilandia being helmed by writer-director James DeMonaco.

In addition, Bloody Disgusting exclusively scored a small taste of plot details that, until now, have been kept under wraps. The sci-fi thriller takes place in a future where a new regime, called “New Founding Fathers of America”, seek to control an epidemic of violence and crime with an experiment called “The Cure”. The Cure is a completely hypocritical “event” where, three times a year, for 12 hours, murder is completely legal. The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme. It’s planned to be the first film in a post-apocalyptic franchise.

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes’ (Brad Fuller and Andrew Form) – responsible for Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes – are producing with Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious).

Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles. READ MORE

Lena Headey Joins Ethan Hawke In Platinum Dunes ‘Vigilandia’!

LenaHeadeyLand12412 Lena Headey Joins Ethan Hawke In Platinum Dunes Vigilandia!

Lena Headey (300, “Game Of Thrones”, “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) will join previously announced lead Ethan Hawke in Universal/Platinum Dunes’ Vigilandia.

It’ll be interesting to see how Fuller and Form handle smaller budgets and original material. I wasn’t always a fan of their remake stuff (hated Nightmare On Elm Street but absolutely loved Friday The 13th) but they kind of make for interesting old-school producers in the sense that they really actively call the shots on their sets.

Per Variety, ““Game of Thrones” star Lena Headey as landed the female lead in Universal’s “Vigilandia,” starring Ethan Hawke. James DeMonaco will direct from a script he penned. Plot details of the sci-fi thriller are being kept under wraps.

Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will produce through Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes along with Why Not Prods. Sebastien Lemercier exec produces. Universal recently came on producer of the pic, the first film under its first-look deal with Blumhouse. While Platinum Dunes has been known for making films at a price, the pic reps its first foray into really low-budgeted fare. Sources say the budget would be similar to that of FilmDistrict’s “Insidious” or the upcoming “Sinister.” READ MORE
