Yesterday I posted about Fox’s “The Following” (aka the new Kevin Williamson show) and you guys seemed pretty excited about it, so I figured I’d pass the trailer along today. The show stars Kevin Bacon, Natalie Zea (“Justified”, The Other Guys), Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, Mother’s Day), and James Purefoy (“Rome”).

THE FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following? Welcome to “The Following”, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the ‘Scream’ franchise). When notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, ‘X-Men: First Class’) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature.

I’m not sure if I have any more room left in my day, let alone another hour to dedicate to another TV show. This is where you guys come into play. As someone who hasn’t ever seen an episode of “The Vampire Diaries”, I’m not terribly inclined to watch Fox’s “The Following” (aka the new Kevin Williamson show). But I like Kevin Bacon and I like Natalie Zea (“Justified”, The Other Guys). So I’m asking one of you guys to check this thing out when it premieres midseason and tell me if it’s worth a d*mn. It’s also got Shawn Ashmore for all you Frozen and Mother’s Day fans out there.

TV: Natalie Zea Hunted By Foxs Serial Killer

“Justified” alumna Natalie Zea has joined Fox’s untitled Kevin Williamson drama pilot about a network of serial killers, reports Deadline.

The project, from Warner Bros TV, is a thriller “about ex-FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) who leads the search to catch diabolical serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) who has created a cult of serial killers.” It’s in the vein of “Alcatraz”. Zea will play Claire Matthews, Carroll’s ex-wife who finds herself in the middle of a nightmare when he escapes from prison.

Zea also starred in The Other Guys and has been featured on the cabler series “Californication.” READ MORE

TV: Kevin Bacon Hunts Serial Killers For Fox

Kevin Bacon (R.I.P.D., Stir of Echoes) is headed to primetime. In a big casting coup, Deadline reports that the feature actor is set to topline Kevin Williamson’s Fox drama pilot. This marks the first major series role for Bacon who had been heavily pursued by broadcast and cable networks for years.

They hear that Bacon has committed to doing 15 episodes a season vs. the standard 22 for a broadcast series. That lightens the load on the actor who can continue to do multiple features a year and spend time with his family. It also plays into Fox’s strategy of exploring new ways for airing shows, something Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly talked about at TCA last month. The high quality of many cable drama series is being attributed in part to shorter seasons that allows for tighter, more impactful storytelling.

The untitled Kevin Williamson project, from Warner Bros TV and Williamson’s studio-based Outerbanks Entertainment, is described as “an edge-of-the-seat thriller about a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and a retired FBI profiler (Bacon) who finds himself in the middle of it.

Marcos Siega recently signed on to direct the pilot, written and executive produced by Williamson, creator of “Dawson’s Creek,” the hit Scream horror movie franchise and co-creator/executive producer of the CW’s “Vampire Diaries” and “Secret Circle.” READ MORE
