Damon Dons Exoskeleton In ‘Elysium’ Set Pics

Before District 9 came out, Neill Blomkamp was mainly recognized as “that guy who almost made Halo.” Here we are two years later, with one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade under his belt and Elysium undergoing production right now.

With the cast Blomkamp assembled and the amount of goodwill he’s built up, I imagine a lot of crew members and “passersby” will conveniently have cameras on them, especially since the plot is still vague and hush-hush. Case in point: these photos of a bald and bloodied Matt Damon wearing an exoskeletal apparatus of some sort.

Not much is known about the film, other than it being set in the far future on another planet where it’s rumored that humans and aliens are battling for the right to colonize, so it’s hard to guess what’s going on in these pics. The gear looks like it might be a brace or life support system (they are colonizing another planet…), or maybe it’s the remnants of a bigger suit that was damaged in battle. Whatever it is, we’ll find out on March 01, 2013.

Don’t You Dare Even Look at These ‘Contagion’ Character Posters

Earlier today we posted this article detailing Warner Bros. Pictures’ marketing plan for Contagion, their extremely dark airborne viral thriller arriving in theaters September 9 from director Steven Soderbergh.

Now, with a single still released (on display below), Yahoo! Movies has put on display six character posters that give us a better look at their campaign: “Don’t talk to anyone. Don’t touch anyone.” Probably a line in the movie where the camera zooms in all dramatically.

‘Contagion’ follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Deathly Face to Scare You Into Seeing ‘Contagion’

The amount of sh*t I’ve been getting from readers for covering Warner Bros. Pictures’ virus-thriller Contagion has finally been simmering down, especially after the release of the incredibly dark trailer. Yet, outside of the site various publications are still trying to understand what will be infecting theaters come September 9, courtesy of director Steven Soderbergh.

I was recently interviewed by the NY Times who delved deep into the question. Within their lengthy piece, they stumbled across some pretty awesome news: a deathly Gwyneth Paltrow could be the face of the marketing campaign.

Sue Kroll, president for movie marketing at Warner, said the studio was not specifically seeking horror fans but would advertise to a wide audience. Over the next week or two, that means expanding the scare factor with bus posters and billboards that will feature, among other things, a gasping, bug-eyed Ms. Paltrow beneath a legend that warns potential moviegoers to steer clear of one another. “Don’t talk to anyone,” the posters say. “Don’t touch anyone.”

Rest assured, a few lucky Bloody colleagues have already seen the movie and have given us the go-ahead to cover the thriller also starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Josie Ho, Demetri Martin, Jennifer Ehle, Bryan Cranston and Elliott Gould. Check out the first official image below.

‘Blade Runner’ Designer Signed on for ‘Elysium’, Sony Wins

Update: Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the right to distribute. It’s nice to be wanted in Hollywood. District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has spent his day pitching Elysium to all of the studios, sans Disney, reports Deadline who also scored some plot details. They’re told this the movie has the social allegory present in the Sony Pictures Entertainment-directed District 9, but it’s an unabashedly big movie, set 100 years in the future, with all of the obligatory gadgets and technological advances. Media Rights is finning the futuristic science fiction flick that will star Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley. Even cooler, Blomkamp will have his sets designed by Syd Mead, famous for his work on films like Blade Runner! Mead’s very hard to hire, but he responded because he so liked District 9. The film will prep in April, and start production in July in Vancouver before moving to Mexico City in the fall.
