[OMFG] Rammstein Meets Meshuggah In This ‘Benzin Remix’

[OMFG] Rammstein Meets Meshuggah In This Benzin Remix
Yes, this is quite the old video. No, I don’t care. Know why? Because I’m currently head banging so hard I think my spine is flapping in the wind. Below you can check out an awesome remix that Meshuggah did for Rammstein‘s Benzin, which originally appeared on the Rosenrot album. To say that the song is heavy is an understatement. Check it out and let me know your thoughts!

Download A New Meshuggah Track FO’ FREE!!!

Download A New Meshuggah Track FO FREE!!!
Meshuggah has teamed up with Scion A/V to bring you a free download of I Am Colossus, the first track on their latest album Koloss. The song is slow burning, evil, and makes you feel like you need to shower afterwards. You can snag the download from the widget below.
Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake states, “‘I Am Colossus’ is way more straightforward than the thrash metal we grew up with. At the same time, it does pose its own difficulties for us as players. It will probably be one of the first songs we attempt to play on tour. The solo – which is basically two long notes that are slow bends – just turned out beautiful. Such an understatement as a guitar solo. Sometimes a slow song is just as aggressive as a fast one.”
Check out our review of Koloss here.

[Original] Metallica And The Case Of The Entitled Fans

[Original] Metallica And The Case Of The Entitled Fans
I feel like I need to clear something up. You see, I’ve been kinda hard on Metallica here. I called them “average joe schmoes” in my article about how the Internet stole the mystery of musicians and I ripped Lulu apart in my review. It’s probably safe to say that were one to look solely at my articles about Metallica, you’d think I hated, or at the least didn’t think much of the band.
But this couldn’t be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, I love Metallica. They’re the band that got me into metal. Nothing Else Matters is the song that inspired me to learn the guitar and is a song I teach to each of my students. Until It Sleeps is still one of my all time favorite music videos. Simply put, I respect the hell out of these guys and rock out to their music all the time.
So why am I bringing this up? After all, I’m not here to just profess my admiration for Metallica. I can do that via Twitter, right? Well, the problem that I see is what I like to call the “entitled fan”. Need an explanation? Well, I shan’t leave my dear readers hanging!

Tool Drummer Danny Carey Hints At Band Entering Studio This Summer
Vic Firth has uploaded a three-part video interview with Tool drummer Danny Carey. In this interview, Carey discusses the songwriting of the band, his drumkit, his signature sticks, and more. He also drops a little nugget that he hopes the band will be entering the studio in June or July to begin the tracking process for the next Tool record. If that’s the case, don’t expect the album to be released until winter or even possibly spring 2013.

[Review] Meshuggah ‘Koloss’

 [Review] Meshuggah Koloss
There’s a saying in the metal community: “Your favorite bands listen to Meshuggah.” It’s a pretty accurate statement, considering that the band has been around for over 20 years. Hell, Tool had them as openers on two of their national tours, with Danny Carey stating that they are a source of inspiration to him.
So when a new Meshuggah album comes out, you better believe that it is seen as more than just a new album from a band. Rather, it’s seen as a crucible upon the metal scene. It is a point when the foundations of metal are challenged. But does Koloss bring this change or does it fall flat upon its face?

The video looks like a cross between a Cronenberg film and Tetsuo: Iron Man and shows the dangers of one becoming too hooked into technology (a lesson I desperately need to learn). Also, this video might be a tad NSFW due to graphic content (no nudity though), so keep that in mind while watching. Check out the awesome video below! READ MORE

[OMFG] The Smurfs Singing Metal In German Is Terrifying

reallifesmurf [OMFG] The Smurfs Singing Metal In German Is Terrifying
This Smurf is creepy. I’d step on him. (source)
I was never a fan of The Smurfs. There wasn’t a single thing about the show that I enjoyed. I was more drawn to Ren and Stimpy, Duckman, Tales From The Crypt, Reboot, Doug, Pirates of the Dark Water, etc… Basically, I liked the darker shows, the ones that had adult themes running throughout that children never really picked up on.
That being said, seeing Smurf puppets sing death metal in German is one of the more intimidating things I’ve seen today. So, below, check out YouTube favorite AndyRehfeldt‘s mashup!

Nimród Antal To Direct 3D Metallica Movie

metallica2012 Nimród Antal To Direct 3D Metallica Movie
Metallica has announced that Kontroll and Predators director Nimród Antal has signed on to direct the upcoming 3D Metallica movie. The film will be shot beginning this August and has a tentative release date for summer 2013.
Lars Ulrich: “I’ve been a fan of Nimróds since his first Hungarian film, Kontroll, showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away. I’ve watched with excitement his career in Hollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his “thinking outside of the box” personality. Let’s get on with it!!!”

“Metallica has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s an incredible opportunity when we get to work with our heroes,” said Antal. “We are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica’s live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience.”
Alright readers, what do you think of this? The band hired Darren Aronofsky to direct the Lou Reed/Metallica (review) video for The View and that was pretty much a waste of talent. Think Antal will be able to deliver something a tad more watchable?

[Original] How The Internet Stole The Mystery Of Musicians

[Original] How The Internet Stole The Mystery Of Musicians
It’s an interesting world we live in now. It’s a time when people are literally seconds away from getting information on whatever subject they desire. Don’t know the capital of Madagascar? Google it*. Trying to figure out the name of the fifth Beatle? Google it**. Have a painful rash and want to know what could be causing it? Cancer. No, seriously, pretty much everything on WebMD leads to cancer, so don’t even go there. See a doctor who knows what he’s talking about.
See, I’m in the generation that was around before the Internet was a big thing. For some of you, that’s probably impossible to imagine. Hell, I have trouble remembering that time myself. But I still do. Instead of finding movie trailers online, we had to wait until the previews at a theater to see what was coming soon. Instead of reading about a tour online months before it kicked off, we listened to the radio or read about it in a magazine. And buying tickets? We actually went to a Ticketmaster location or called them up. No online purchasing for us. Craziness, right?
So what does this have to do with music? Elementary, my dear reader. It’s taken all the mystery of musicians out of music!
