The first half of “The Walking Dead” season 2 was a bust. It never elevated the characters and it never fully grabbed my attention. But there’s some hope, which comes from executive producer Glen Mazzara who was added midseason as the series’ new showrunner. I believe his was behind the midseason finale, which leads me to believe the second half could be a major step in the right direction.

Actor Norman Reedus (“Daryl”) talked about the show’s February revival with Daemon’s TV and explained that we haven’t seen anything yet…

“I can say that in the second half, after this hiatus, people are done talking,” he explained. “It’s all kind of firecrackers from here on out. It gets more action packed. The first part of the season, it gets slow when people have to talk. That’s just how it works. I think the writers have done such a great job with setting up storylines and explaining them when they need to be explained, not over talking it and not over thinking it. There are certain things that need to be said to keep the story moving and I think they’ve done a good job with it. I know when people watch the show they go, ‘More zombies. More death.’ But you have to do a bit of talking. Otherwise it’s ‘Transformers.’”

TV: The Walking Deads Morning After Controversy

I didn’t watch Sunday night’s episode until yesterday, but apparently there was an outcry of anger when Lori’s (played by Sarah Wayne Callies) character takes a morning-after pill in hopes to abort her and Shane’s (Jon Bernthal) lovechild (which she then forces herself to throw it up).

Showrunner Glen Mazzara responded to the controversy: “The producers and writers of ‘The Walking Dead’ are fully aware that the morning-after pill would not induce an abortion or miscarriage,” said Mazzara in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “We exercised our artistic creative license to explore a storyline with one of our characters, not to make any pro-life or pro-choice political statement. We sincerely hope that people are not turning to the fictional world of ‘The Walking Dead’ for accurate medical information.”

The American Civil Liberties Union was one of the more vocal detractors.

In a blog post titled, “Walking Dead Is Wrong on Emergency Contraception, Stick to Zombies,” the organization huffed, “‘The Walking Dead’ is not doing its fans or themselves any favors by promoting false information. Lori is several weeks pregnant and the morning-after pill can’t induce a miscarriage. What it can do is prevent pregnancy if taken within 5 days of unprotected sex; although the sooner it is taken the more likely it is to work.”

TV: The Walking Dead S02E05 Recap and Review

After last week’s big pregnancy reveal, this episode naturally focused a lot on Lori and her baby drama. Actually, not really. The best way to sum up 2×5 is this: Daryl Dixon is a badass.

Shane and Rick team up to look for Sophia. Though their casual conversation, you get a small glimpse into the details of their increasingly intense bromance. It fills in the gaps a little bit in terms of why their friendship is so strong, and how their relationships with Lori have complicated things so much for Shane. Since killing Otis, Shane has dramatically changed, and if the cracks weren’t showing in his persona last week, they definitely are this week. Shane has gained a new lease on life to justify his actions which generally revolves around putting survival before empathy. In the context of “The Walking Dead”, he is made out to be a bit of an ass for this, but in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, there is probably a lot to be said for keeping a stone heart. He has more or less given up on Sophia, and thinks that the group would have been better off if they would have moved on. READ MORE

With season two of AMC’s The Walking Dead under way, shattering records, the zombie craze is more alive than ever. The Walking Dead has always been that special something in the hearts of horror comic fans, and the series continues to find more advocates as it branches off into new mediums. Season one of TWD was proof that it can be successfully adapted to television, but can Kirkman do it again? Will TWD make for an exciting and psychologically horrifying novel as well? I strongly believe that TWD, despite how mainstream it becomes, will always stay true to its fans and always do its best to give a good name to the zombie movement. Rise of the Governor doesn’t simply retell events from the comics, it provides a first person origin story for the fan favorite villain known as ‘The Governor’. In the latest making-of video featurette, special effects make-up designer, Greg Nicotero, talks about the creation of the infamous big-eyed zombie in the second season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”

The project is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes (Lincoln), in search of a safe place to live. In this latest season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” TV series, the survivors arrive at Hershel’s Farm, where we will meet Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson), a vet (as in a veterinarian); his daughter, Maggie (Lauren Cohan); and Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince), the middle-aged ranch foreman who’s such a sweetheart that he all but loses it when he accidentally shoots a fellow survivor. The new cast members join series regulars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Sarah Wayne Callies as Lori Grimes, Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh, Laurie Holden as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn as Dale, Steven Yeun as Glenn, and Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes.

The second season will consist of a 13-episode arc and will premiere this Fall on AMC.

AMC revealed today that Gwyneth Horder-Payton (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Fringe,” “The Shield”) is directing the season premiere of this falls’ return of The Walking Dead.

In the below interview Horder-Payton talks about her affinity for horror, old-lady zombies, and her most memorable moment on “The Walking Dead” set. New “Dispatches From the Set” are released every week throughout the production.

While AMC was hoping to hold the big reveal until the San Diego Comic-Con, ~~an international distributor leaked the first official trailer~~ a crazy awesome fan made trailer was posted online for the second season of The Walking Dead, which is currently lensing under the direction of Frank Darabont in Atlanta, GA.

The teaser features protag Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) taking aim at an oncoming horde of the undead. It’s aces. I got an undead boner.

The Walking Dead is back in Atlanta for Season 2. In the following video creator Robert Kirkman shows fans where the magic happens and tells us what he loves about being on set. White space tubes, guns, and of course, dead people!

The project is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), in search of a safe place to live. Check out the first two images of the undead from set in Atlanta, Georgia.

Late last year, Frank Darabont made headlines by giving the axe to his writing staff on The The Walking Dead, the critically acclaimed AMC show that took viewers by surprise and became a ratings juggernaut. It was also rumored that he would be assigning writing duties to freelancers, though that turned out not to be the case.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Darabont finally shed some light on the situation, which he said was “all pretty overblown.”

“It left the impression that I walked in one day and murdered 12 people. Would you like to know how many writers we were talking about? Two. My thought had been that they’d under-delivered, and a change was necessary. I had to do too much of it by myself last year, and that was only six episodes. This season, it’s 13 and we’ve hired a fantastic writing staff. We hired Glen Mazzara as our Number Two in the room. We consider him our head writer and he’s just a fantastic asset. We’ve also got three other staff writers in Scott Gimple, Evan Reilly from Rescue Me, and Angela Kang. Plus Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, who wrote the original comic book, is also writing for us.”

He also chatted about the direction his new writing staff would be talking, saying “It’s fair to say that the first six episodes were teeing up a lot of conflicts that will be more fully explored in our second season. We find a growing conflict with our two main guys, Rick [Andrew Lincoln] and Shane [Jon Bernthal]. We’re really excited about putting all of the characters on a chessboard and seeing how wonderfully and effectively we can toss conflict into the game.”

Production commenced Monday, June 6 on the second season of AMC TV’s The Walking Dead.

Much like last fall, AMC begins its series of on-set interviews with the show’s talented creative team by chatting with executive producer Robert Kirkman – who also created the comic series – about his expectations for the second season, why he won’t play a zombie and Glenn’s love prospects in the apocalypse.

There’s not too much revealed other than Greg Nicotero and KNB are back with the effects, and that Kirkman is reluctant to direct an episode.

One of the huge draws behind Image’s “HAUNT” has forever been the dreamteam of Robert |Kirkman (“THE WALKING DEAD”) and Todd McFarlane (“SPAWN”) on the project. However, now the true mettle of the series will be tested, because today the publisher announced that the series would be gaining and all NEW team in Joe Casey “BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER”) and Nathan Fox (“FLUORESCENT BLACK”)! As Robert Kirkman’s “THE WALKING DEAD” continues to grow exponentially in popularity due to the recent success of AMC’s small-screen adaptation of the horror drama, it is only natural that the series would begin to branch off into other forms of merchandising. So while you will have to wait a bit for those Slurpee cups, fans will be excited to know that publisher Skybound Entertainment has paired up with game developer Z-Man to bring them an all new board game based upon the monthly from Image Comics. The bad news is that you will have to wait awhile to actually PLAY the game, but below you can get all the details thanks to MTV.com.

This Summer might be one of the slowest in recent memory for the horror industry in film, and admittedly: that sucks. But luckily for horror aficionados, casual fans, and passers-by everywhere, the comic industry is still booming with new and interesting titles that are covered in the good ol’ blood n’ guts. However, out of all of the new upstarts that are hoping to find their footing this year, there are few that have even come close to being as unique and interesting as Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner’s upcoming “WITCH DOCTOR” from Robert Kirkman’s newly launched, Skybound Entertainment. The series which follows Doctor Vincent Morrow, Eric Gast, and Penny Dreadful is the first 100% original title to come from the new publisher, and with it it has brought along more buzz than a wicker mask over Nicolas Cage’s screaming head. Up until recently news on the title has been kept quiet, but now with just a few short weeks until the series debut the creative team behind then title took the time to sit down with me and discuss the book at length. Fans of Robert Kirkman’s “THE WALKING DEAD” (And who isn’t) are all waiting on pins and needles for the second season of the smash-hit AMC television series based off of the scribes long-running monthly from Image Comics to debut this Halloween. The series has more than opened the flood-gates for the series, but Kirkman isn’t stopping there as he will also be moving the series into the world of prose with the first in a series of new novels based off of the world of “THE WALKING DEAD”, the first of which being “RISE OF THE GOVERNOR”. The book will not be hitting stores until September, but below you can check out a first look at the cover art for the book and get some additional details thanks to Entertainment Weekly.
