[B-D Review] ‘Curandero: Dawn of the Demon’ is an A-OK Satanic Cult Flick

Reviewed by Mike Ferraro

Eduardo Rodriguez (the upcoming Fright Night 2) seems to be a dual-personality director who is certainly gifted in some areas of filmmaking, but lacks terribly in many others. Curandero: Dawn of the Demon marks his feature-length debut, which tells the story of Carlos (Carlos Gallardo – El Mariachi), a spiritual healer thrust into an investigation of Castaneda, a local Satanic leader/drug lord.

Carlos’ father was a well-known curandero who helped Magdalena (Gizeht Galatea) overcome a possession of sorts during her childhood. Today, she is a federal agent investigating a man who recently escaped jail as if he disappeared. Since the man who once saved her life has died, Carlos respects his father’s legacy enough to help her. READ MORE

Ashley Greene Looks Beastly In Movie With ‘Random’ Title Change

The Weinstein Co.’s recently renamed Random (previously Kristy, then previously Satanic) has unveiled to EW the first pic of Ashley Greene ( Twilight, The Apparition) in the production. I’m sort of confused, this movie is supposed to be a “psychological thriller” but all I can do is laugh.

Oliver Blackburn (Donkey Punch) directed the film from Anthony Jaswinski penning the script. The film is currently shooting in New Orleans and also stars Haley Bennett and Lucas Till. Apparently, Greene is the leader of the gang. Thankfully, the piercings are fake.

The film, “described as a ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ type thriller, the story follows a girl who is alone on campus over the Thanksgiving break when a random encounter with a gang of violent outcasts leads them to target her as their next victim. To survive, she must conquer her deepest fears to outwit them and fight back.

[2013 HORROR MOVIE PREVIEW] DIMENSION FILMS

The Amityville Horror, Halloween 3D and Hellraiser never happened, again, so we sit back and watch as Dimension Films works out their 2013 slate without the iconic slashers.

Even without them, 2013 looks promising with the Blumhouse alien pic Dark Skies being the most intriguing. The question is as to whether or not they’ll get back into the groove and get us some franchise sequels, including a new Scream.

‘Satanic’ Cast Of Characters Coming Together For Thanksgiving

Wolves and X-Men star Lucas Till (pictured) has enrolled in The Weinstein Co.’s psychological thriller Satanic (previously Kristy) opposite Haley Bennett and Ashley Greene ( Twilight, The Apparition), reports Variety.

Oliver Blackburn (Donkey Punch) helms, with Anthony Jaswinski penning the script. Production is finally prepping in New Orleans.

Described as a Rosemary’s Baby type thriller, the story follows a girl who is alone on campus over the Thanksgiving break when a random encounter with a gang of violent outcasts leads them to target her as their next victim. To survive, she must conquer her deepest fears to outwit them and fight back.

The original pitch pegged this as a Strangers-inspired slasher.
