Based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson, the plot explores the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.
We’ve got a look at the full trailer for the Stephen King adaptation “Under the Dome,” and it’s not looking too shabby for a network mini-series! I feel like it paints some of the characters in broad strokes, but then again that could just be a trailer thing. The show has plenty of time to deepen them out.
“‘Under the Dome’ is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.”
The 13-episode summer series will premiere June 24th on CBS.
It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, and Aisha Hinds. READ MORE
While Universal is banging the drum for the Jurassic Park 3D re-release – in theaters this Friday, April 5th – they’re having the talent involved with the film reminisce to major outlets about its’ 20th Anniversary. Here’s an interview Laura Dern and Sam Neill did for “The Today Show”, and there’s a cool look at what might have been! Still think Dern was the right choice for the role though.
It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a nice little look at what could have been. I like Paltrow, but she was way too young and soft at the time to play Dr. Ellie Sattler. Head inside to check it out! READ MORE
Because, you know, your safety isn’t guaranteed when you go to… never mind. In a fairly surprising bit of news, it’s being reported that Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) has been hired to direct Jurassic Park IV for Universal Pictures. Per Deadline, “He met with the studio and filmmakers, and they felt he was a good match for the material, having grown up a huge fan of the trilogy and part of a new generation of directors steeped in all things dinosaur. They felt he would preserve and protect the characters in the story they created.”
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are penning the fourth installment with a targeted June 13, 2014 release planned. Unconfirmed storyline details report that the the film could be about the government who has trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes.
I’m actually ok with this. I’m sure a lot of the big effects sequences are being pre-visualized already and if this is like any other movie Trevorrow will probably have a 2nd unit director shoot most of the action anyway. So maybe we’ll get some nice characters this time around?
What do you think? Have you seen Safety Not Guaranteed?
Production has commenced last week in Wilmington, N.C. for CBS’s new summer series, “Under the Dome” with director Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) at the helm and now we have our first on set photo, courtesy of Lilja’s Library. As the headline indicates, it depicts Big Jim Rennie’s Car Dealership – of which I know nothing about since I haven’t read the book.
“Under the Dome”, which premieres Monday, June 24 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS, is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel about a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by a massive transparent dome. It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy and Aisha Hinds.
“Under the Dome” is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television. Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, Jack Bender and Brian K. Vaughan, who wrote the television adaptation, will serve as executive producers.

Jolene Purdy (pictured above; “Glee”, Donnie Darko) and Nicholas Strong (“Nashville”) have been cast in “Under The Dome,” CBS’ 13-episode summer series from Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Per Deadline, “Purdy will play Dodee, a brilliant, eccentric engineer at the local radio station who will draw on her unique skills in an effort to make contact with the world outside the dome. Strong will play Phil, a popular radio DJ and indie rock fanatic, a charismatic figure with a dark secret.”
They join Britt Robertson, Natalie Martinez, Colin Ford and Alex Koch.
Based on King’s bestselling novel, “On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when — or if — it will go away.”
“Under The Dome” starts on Monday, June 24 and will air in the Monday 10 PM slot.
Warner Bros. and Amblin might soon be dining after midnight. A few months back I spoke to original Gremlins director Joe Dante about the prospect of either a sequel or a reboot to the franchise. Things looked slightly different then and he was somewhat circumspect about the idea.
At the time Dante stated, “I haven’t had any formal talks, or even informal talks, with them about it. It’s a title in their library that sooner or later will be re-exploited. You can’t obviously do a sequel to the second picture because the cast is too old and I don’t know that that’s the way they’re thinking. I think they’d probably reboot the whole thing and start all over or go in a different direction – take the Gremlins someplace else… I do know that there have been attempts at Gremlins pictures. I know that people have gone in with pitches, but nothing has caught their eye. But I’m not positive that it’s entirely Warner Brothers’ decision. Because it’s an Amblin project, it probably has to be signed off on by Spielberg.”
But now (via Vulture) that last piece may have finally fallen into place. Head inside for more… READ MORE
On the heels of the recently announced delay of Robopocalypse, director Steven Spielberg has revealed that he’s found a better way to tell the story. Hopefully it doesn’t involve apple pie and a idiotic family reunion.
The iconic director, who has lately been focusing on the lighter fare, tells EW, “We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into “Robopocalypse,” and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.”
Daniel H. Wilson wrote the novel that Drew Goddard had adapted for the big screen. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of major changes caused the delay when the film eventually make a 2015 release (an, that’s so freakin’ far away). In any sense, it’s impossible to question the arguably best director of our time.
The film was all set to begin production this spring with Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway set to star.
Shirley Knight (Cowboys and Aliens) and Chris Browning, pictured above, have rounded out the cast of the Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions horror movie Mercy, reports Variety. Dylan McDermott, Frances O’Connor, Chandler Riggs and Joel Courtney currently star, with Haunting in Connecticut‘s Peter Cornwell set to direct. Pic is based on a Stephen King story from his “Skeleton Crew,” with a script penned by Matt Greenberg. It follows two young boys who go with their single mother (O’Connor) to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy, only to discover that she’s a witch who made a pact with a dark force many years before.
According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg is going to push back Robopocalypse, the giant science fiction pic that he was scheduled to direct this spring for Fox and Disney through DreamWorks. Spielberg isn’t dropping out of the movie, he just didn’t want to rush an expensive film, and wanted more time to work on it. Based on Daniel H. Wilson novel and with a script by Cloverfield‘s Drew Goddard, Robopocalypse was to star Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway and concerns a battle for survival after mankind generates its first mass intelligence computer brain only to see it escape. It was set for an April 2014 release.
Lastly, New Line Cinema is moving forward with the cult classic Y The Last Man, setting Dan Trachtenberg to direct the film, says the same site. “Y The Last Man” is the dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. It focuses on only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The 60-issue series was repackaged in book firm and the series won five Eisner Awards. READ MORE
Anne Hathaway (pictured) will join both Ben Whishaw and Chris Hemsworth in Robopocalypse, the Steven Spielberg adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novella, reports Empire. “If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it,” she tells Empire, “and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.” Penned by Cloverfield‘s Drew Goddard, the plot explores the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.
TheWrap reports that Eric Bana (Hulk, Star Trek) is in talks to star in Beware the Night, a paranormal police thriller to be directed by Sinister and Exorcism of Emily Rose‘s Scott Derrickson. The story follows a New York police officer investigating real life demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves. Derrickson also directed The Day the Earth Stood Still. READ MORE
Steven Spielberg’s epic Jurassic Park gets the 3-D treatment April 5, 2013. We’ve updated with the trailer for the re-release.
While the post-converted garbage is just a way to pull in some extra cash, it could also tell the studio we want more dino action.
Sam Neill and Laura Dern star in the 1993 adaptation that begins during a preview tour of a new theme park, which suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.
Thus far the film has grossed $914,691,118 worldwide, could the re-release push it over a billion? Who cares…I just want more movies, toys and JP t-shirts. READ MORE

“Some people believe that when you die there is a wonderful light. As bright as the sun but it doesn’t hurt to look into it. All the answers to all the questions you want to know are inside that light. And when you walk to it… you become a part of it forever. Now, some people die, but they don’t know they’re gone…”
Poltergeist is brilliant and beautiful. The events in the 1982 film almost seem like they could truly happen, and perhaps they have without the world knowing. Set in perfect suburbia, five year old Carol Anne Freeling awakens her family one night, yelling into the static of the television.
Little does the Freeling family know that Carol Anne, having been born in their perfect house in Cuesta Verde, has a light within her that is a gateway to the afterlife. A light which will let the spirits, or the “tv people”, into our world – starting with two little words:
“They’re here.” READ MORE
Brit thesp Ben Whishaw (below), who stars in WB’s insane spectacle Cloud Atlas and plays Q in Sony’s upcoming James Bond pic Skyfall, is being eyed for a key role in Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse, which is a co-production between DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox, reports Variety.
Whishaw has not received an official offer yet, but he has been at the top of DreamWorks’ list since the casting process began to play a hacker named Lurker. Based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson, the plot explores the fate of the human race following a robot uprising.
Chris Hemsworth (Cabin in the Woods, Thor, Avengers) is in negotiations to star, while Anne Hathaway (Dark Knight Rises) has been approached for the female lead.
Whishaw’s bigscreen credits include lead roles in Tom Tykwer’s Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and Jane Campion’s Bright Star. READ MORE
Just days after announcing his departure from 20th Century Fox at the end of the year, chairman Tom Rothman is in talks to produce the studio’s most high-profile tentpole, Robopocalypse, says Variety. They are seeking to add the beautiful Anne Hathaway to the cast.
Steven Spielberg is directing the film for DreamWorks Studios, while Fox will distribute. Rothman has shepherded the project closely from the beginning, even making personal calls to reporters when Fox announced the project a year ago.
Fox has the pic slated for release on April 25, 2014.
Robopocalypse, a sci-fi epic adapted from Daniel H. Wilson’s novel by scribe Drew Goddard, centers on the fate of the human race after a robot uprising. DreamWorks acquired the rights to Wilson’s unpublished manuscript in November 2009. Title was released by Doubleday in June of last year. READ MORE
I love playing the “what if?” game, especially when it comes to major films and incredibly powerful filmmakers. This one is the size of a dinosaur.
Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite films. It never even crossed my mind that someone else may have ended up adapting the Michael Crichton novel. But what if James Cameron, known for his darker fare such as The Terminator and Aliens, ended up directing?
The filmmaker with the world’s two highest-grossing films under his belt revealed to HuffPost UK that he had always wanted to make the film Jurassic Park, but was beaten to it by Jaws director Steven Spielberg.
“I tried to buy the book rights and he beat me to it by a few hours,” Cameron revealed at the recently-opened “Titanic Museum” in Belfast, where the ship he brought to the big screen was designed and crafted back at the beginning of last century.
“But when I saw the film, I realized that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.
“Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier.”
Spielberg’s 1993 film, which stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern, is nearly $1 billion worldwide. Universal is post-converting the film for 3-D release on April 5, 2013 – that should tip the iceberg and set the stage for the already announced 3-D remake. READ MORE
“Remember This?” is a new feature that highlights cool anecdotes from the horror genre’s storied past. It’ll pop up from time to time, giving you a brief look at something cool before you move on with your day.
This isn’t exactly a well kept secret, but it’s weird to think sometimes that some of those skeletons in Poltergeist are real. Towards the end of the film JoBeth Williams‘ character is thrown into a swimming pool flooded with dirt, rain and actual human remains (their house is built on a burial ground after all).
While the jury is still out on who directed the film between Tobe Hooper and producer Steven Spielberg, there’s no doubt that both of them were aware of their “authentic” props. What’s even stranger is that Williams was pretty much cool with it (stating that she was far more concerned about being electrocuted)! One thing’s for sure – this would not happen today. Hollywood is much less renegade in spirit than it was back then, and talent is more “finicky”. I was recently on the set of a horror film and watched the young female star – who had not heard this story – shudder in horror and disbelief as I relayed this tidbit.
As a germaphobe – I’m really hoping these things were thoroughly sanitized. Head inside for more pics! And decide for yourself if any of these are the real skeletons (dressed with fake rotting flesh) in question, or if the actual guys are somewhwre in the background. READ MORE

It’s been nearly four decades since Jaws was released in 1975. Time has solidified the film’s reputation as a seminal classic that upended the industry. Despite the fact that it was only Steven Spielberg’s second feature, Jaws became the first modern day blockbuster, as well as the first film to make over $100 million at the box office. The film easily holds up, in both special effects and story, for its premiere release on Blu-ray 37 years later.
From a modern perspective, Jaws doesn’t seem like a summer blockbuster at all. Unlike superhero movies or big disaster films, Jaws takes a much more reserved pace. Despite the fact that the film is forever associated with its maritime antagonist, it actually spends more time on its human characters. The three principals are mostly archetypal – Roy Schneider, as Chief of Police Martin Brody, is the everyman facing an extraordinary situation; Richard Dreyfuss’ Hooper is the snide but comical intellectual; and of course there’s Robert Shaw as Quint, who’s nothing more than a generic grizzled old seaman.
