“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”: New Ryan Murphy Limited Series Greenlit by Netflix
In the wake of “Ratched,” we’ve learned this weekend via Deadline that Ryan Murphy has set up his next project at Netflix, a limited series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
From Murphy and co-creator Ian Brennan comes “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” which has just been given a green light by the streaming service.
“Monster chronicles the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, largely told from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims, and dives deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series dramatizes at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go. The series also is expected to touch on white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white guy, was repeatedly given a free pass by cops as well as by judges who were lenient when he had been charged with petty crimes.”
Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) is on board to play Dahmer’s father, and the search is currently underway for the actor who will be playing Dahmer himself.
Deadline notes, “The 10-episode limited series spans the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s and ends with Dahmer’s arrest in the early ’90s.”
Janet Mock (“Pose”) is writing/directing, with Carl Franklin (“Mindhunter”) also directing.
Dahmer was most recently played by Ross Lynch in 2017’s My Friend Dahmer.

“Nightmares and Daydreams” Teaser – Joko Anwar’s Sci-Fi Horror Anthology Series Debuts on Netflix This June
Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Impetigore), known internationally for stylish and gory horror, has a supernatural anthology series debuting on Netflix this summer with “Nightmares and Daydreams.” A new teaser gives a closer look at the strange phenomena haunting this dreamy new series.
Joko Anwar’s “Nightmares and Daydreams” arrives globally on Netflix on June 14, 2024.
Netflix describes “Nightmares & Daydreams” as “a supernatural thriller series that shows there isn’t necessarily a rational explanation behind every occurrence.”
Here’s the full official synopsis: “A sci-fi supernatural series about ordinary people encountering strange phenomena that may be keys to the answer about the origin of our world and the imminent threat we will soon face. Characters and plots will intertwine like pieces of a puzzle. And the big picture will be awe-inspiring.”
The seven episode series presents a different story and a new set of actors in each installment, leading up to a big showdown in the finale.
Ario Bayu, Lukman Sardi, Yoga Pratama, Fachri Albar, Marissa Anita, and Sita Nursanti star.
The series was initially announced in 2022 by Deadline as part of a huge slate of Indonesian projects that included several new series and movies from renowned Indonesian filmmakers, including Joko Anwar. The outlet reported to expect “Nightmares & Daydreams” to follow multiple storylines that would see ordinary people encountering strange, eerie phenomena.
“Indonesia is so full of unique and extraordinary stories. I’m always excited to have the chance to bring these stories to a wider audience,” Anwar told Deadline at the time of the announcement.
“Nightmares & Daydreams” isn’t the only horror offering in the pipeline from Anwar; expect to hear more soon about Siksa Kubur (Grave Torture), an upcoming horror film written and directed by Joko Anwar from the production house Come and See Pictures. The film is a feature length adaptation of the 2012 short film, available to watch now on Anwar’s YouTube channel.
