‘Monsters: Dark Continent’ Trailer Looks Massive!

Monsters: Dark Continent

With Godzilla opening in theaters tonight, Protagonist Pictures released the first trailer to the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ hit indie, Monsters.

Tom Green took over directorial duties for Edwards, with Joe Dempsie, Johnny Harris and Sofia Boutella starring in Monsters: Dark Continent.

If you thought the first featured a lot of mega-sized monsters, this time it looks like they actually do something. Monsters annoyed me because it felt like the creatures never truly interacted with the humans, while Dark Continent, well, watch the trailer and see!!

Ten years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide.

Two soldiers embark on a life-altering mission through the dark heart of monster territory in the deserts of the Middle East. By the time they reach their goal, they will have been forced to confront the fear that the true monsters on the planet may not be alien after all.

Watch for it in the UK this September. Expecting Magnolia to pick up U.S. rights again.

Really? You thought “Monsters” lacked interaction between the monsters and humans? You don’t think the point of the movie was about how people could be considered monsters? You don’t think the movie was about good people trying to get out of a quarantine zone filled with people taking advantage of a bad situation? I think you kind of missed the point of the movie there, Brad.

Got to agree with you here….. minus the negative Nancy tone of your reply….

i liked MONSTERS and have watched it several times but i would have liked to see more of the creatures in the film. what creatures they did show looked fantastic (and they sounded sad which added to the coolness).

i understand people are the monsters and so forth but we sort of get enough of that on THE WALKING DEAD.

    • SpaceManSpliffz .

  • After watching the first movie, the title ‘Monsters’ could easily refer to humankind more than the creatures.

i loved the first movie (despite the minimal use of the “monsters”) and i hope this 2nd movie is good but this trailer sucked. i hope this movie isn’t 90% war film 10% “monster” film. if i want to watch a creatures-less or creature-lite movie i’ll watch a straight up war film. make the creatures this time around be front and center.

I adored Monsters. Read Roger Ebert’s review.

Most people who negatively react to the movie Monsters really didn’t get it(as this writer clearly didn’t). It was the anti-monster movie monster movie. Ya’ know, it was trying to be original in a really old and worn genre. This trailer for the sequel looks like the type of movie Monsters was trying to avoid being, in other words, this movie looks like mindless action melodrama with the same creatures causing ‘splosions and destruction with, gasps(!), military characters as the leads! Great, that’s new. Never seen a sequel go that route…..Anyway, it could still be entertaining. This trailer isn’t selling that idea, but I could be wrong.

i DO like the first movie but this one seems like it’s again going to be mostly human on human fighting/war drama with the creatures as the backdrop. how is that different from the first movie???

  • turtlenipple

This looks like turds and that rap or poem was awful stuff

  • Tigernan Quinn

This looks fucking atrocious. “on’t mind us, we’re just going to take literally everything about the first movie that made it remarkable and different from every other generic monster movie, and ditch all that rubbish for MORE MONSTERS!!!”

  • diapers

Man, the first Monsters blew me away. Part 2 seems different in many ways… bigger cast, (maybe) more creature action. It certainly seems more of a war movie. Not holding my breath.

Might’ve been a good trailer with the sound turned down but that ruined it for me. Absolutely loved the first one but this one looks sub-par.

I loved monsters, and was so excited for the trailer to the sequel, but now I’m kind of disappointed, I was hoping for something along the lines to the first. I hope it’s not all just war movie, those are some of my least favorite movies. I guess i will just have to wait and see before I judge

i’m sorry but this looks like complete crap. the first movie was excellent. but trying to sell a sequel with some gangsta rhyme narrative just won’t cut it. monsters proved sometimes less is more. that doesn’t translate as nothing is awesome… unless reviews for this are terrific i’ll be passing this one even at redbox
