Andrew Saullo Announces ‘Dino Crisis’ Fan Film Project ‘The Third Energy Crisis’

After two Resident Evil fan films, director Andrew Saullo is pivoting to another Capcom survival horror title for his next adaptation with The Third Energy Crisis, a live-action, not-for-profit short fan film inspired by Dino Crisis. Saullo and his production company Black Ridge Media Productions will be launching their Indiegogo campaign later this afternoon to help fund the project.

Drawing inspiration from the 1999 PlayStation classic, The Third Energy Crisis takes place in 2009, and centres around an elite team of espionage agents called Secret Operations Raid Team, or S.O.R.T.. Sent by the United States government to a military research facility within the Borginian Republic, the team’s mission is to locate, capture and repatriate Doctor Edward Kirk, who was believed to have died in a laboratory accident three years prior.

Intel suggests that the Doctor survived and is illegally working with the Borginian Republic on a highly classified energy project codenamed “Third Energy.” Third Energy was initially proposed as a clean renewable energy source as an alternative to fossil fuels, but Third Energy experiments have proven to be highly unstable and catastrophic.

When S.O.R.T. infiltrates the Island to search for Doctor Kirk, their mission takes a sudden and unexpected turn for the worse. The military research facility has been deserted, the team is about to discover what Third Energy is truly capable of, and the prehistoric disaster that lies ahead of them.

Joining Saullo on the project is Alberto Triana, returning as Saullo’s Director of Photography, while YouTuber Justin Whang, Anthony Luzzi, Luke De La Nougerede and Rikk Wolf are on board as Producers.

Currently, the project is in pre-production, with the Indiegogo campaign designed to help fund production costs, as well as post-production, music and visual effects. The campaign will also provide a production contingency in the event that there are any unforeseen circumstances during any stage of the production process.

Saullo also states that the film will not use Generative AI to generate entire shots or replicate performers’ voices or likenesses, emphasizing the human artists behind the project, as well as practical filmmaking, and traditional VFX work. And much like RESURRECTION: A Biohazard Story and The Keeper’s Diary: A Biohazard Story, The Third Energy Crisis is being produced solely for the personal and uncompensated enjoyment of the fans of the series, and is in no way affiliated with Capcom.
