[Rumor] Will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Appear In ‘Venom’?
Speculation often comes with an egg in the face, but this one is too good to pass up.
Sony is deep into production on Venom, the first in a series of R-rated villain-themed Spider-Man spinoffs that stars Tom Hardy as the title character. Before turning into Venom, Eddie Brock was a journalist who was embarrassed by Peter Parker, which led to the bonding of Brock and an alien symbiote. While this is the comic book origins that took place in “Amazing Spider-Man” #298-300, it’s still unclear how director Ruben Fleisher will spawn this popular character.
While Venom is a spinoff character that’s to begin the architecture behind the Sinister Six, it’s been reported more than a handful of times that Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man exists in a different universe than the aforementioned. It never really made a whole lot of sense, which is why this rumor stands out.
Movie Talk‘s Jon Schnepp claims he’s heard that Holland will, in fact, appear in Venom:
“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom.”
He continues: “For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man—and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—is going to be in Venom.”
This makes sense, especially if Venom’s origin is still tied to Spider-Man. It also makes sense if Brock’s motivation is tied to Peter Parker. We don’t know much about the character’s origins, but we do know that Carnage is the antagonist and it will feature several other symbiotes.
Written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, as well as Ron Lim and Sam Delarosa, the movie is inspired by “Venom: Lethal Protector”, a six-episode limited series that notably reinvented Venom from a Spider-Man villain to a Marvel Comics anti-hero. In it, Venom moves from New York City to San Francisco after coming to an agreement with his former foe Spider-Man. (IGN)
As for “Planet of the Symbiotes”, another inspiration, Eddie Brock’s relationship is with his symbiote and the influence it has on him is explored. Also written by Michelinie, “Planet of the Symbiotes” follows Venom fighting an army of symbiotes with the help of Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider.
Hardy stars as the title antihero alongside Riz Ahmed, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate.
Venom hits theaters on Oct. 5, 2018, through Columbia Pictures.
